This thread isn't about voting someone into office. This isn't even about who has or has not earned our vote, let alone the degree of corruptness of any political party.
This thread is about the recall mechanism and what other options we have once they are in office.
This thread should be about discussing what standards should be in place in order to measure who should stay and who should go while they are in office.
This thread should be about what thresholds must be crossed so that the people can recognize and activate an option to remove someone from office during their term.
You throw out words like "corruption" like its confetti and it seems the only solution offered here lately is posting messages designed to promoting voting for Rauner without referencing Quinn and with no rhyme or reason why I, or anyone else, should vote for Rauner over Quinn or even the other way around.
This thread is about what choices we have here in Illinois no matter who ends up in office at any time and for any reason.
And right now, Illinois does not have any clear path to recalling the Governor, let alone any other official voted into office.
Anyone actually have any ideas regarding the recall mechanism?
No we don't have a good recall method yet,
but the first step is to get people involved and vote.
it is appalling that we have such low voter turn out.
too many people are too busy keeping up with the Kardasions
or know who got voted off dancing with the stars but have no idea who some of their elected officials are or how they voted on issues.

I support term limits because I don't believe in career politicians,
and I believe that many get elected with good intentions but after years become out of touch with the people of our country and become corrupt or become part of the "ruling class" that start believing that they know what's best for us "We the People"

when we get enough people in elected office that are representing us and not them selves we can get meaningful legislation passed giving the people a method of recalling politicians that are corrupt or poor leaders

the other current option is to not re-elect these people. How many times has Mike Madigan been re-elected? to name one career politician that is not working for the average resident of the State.

Funny how this thread has become apparently a campaign platform for those who believe voting for an incumbent rather than actually talking about the topic at hand.

No matter who is voted into office, there needs to be a mechanism to remove them from office. Period. Otherwise you get circumstances like Kilpatrick out of Detroit in which a few business owners made an offer to help him...assuming he resigned...which he didn't.

While the business owners were exonerated (as seems to be appropriate), it is a great example of the length and distance some are able and willing to travel to change who is in office.

On the flip-side, there is a circumstance unraveling in Oak Forest where a husband-wife team have been charged with felonies. The wife makes the statement her husband had not a clue what was going on and the husband holds a government position or two. So while the wife has resigned, the husband refuses to and at this time, people are calling for the husband to resign.

While the community owes him the fundamental rule of innocent before guilt, a recall mechanism would allow for an open trial which would provide opportunity for everyone with evidence to accuse a government official of wrong-doing to step up and formalize their accusations with an official outcome.

No matter what the results are of this election and no matter how many times someone suggests to vote out an incumbent, lack of a strong recall mechanism is hurting our state and I am still curious if anyone has any ideas on what would a recall structure look like, including and beyond the position of Governor.

Midlo - you are 100% correct. We do need a strong recall mechanism for all elected officials for none of us really knows 100% of dirty or hidden laundry on anyone. That said, VOTE OUT THE INCUMBENT - example recent defeat of Eric Cantor, who thought he was next in line. The other key to improved government is for ALL the people to wake up and VOTE. To many people stay home and then complain for four years.

We should have learned our lessons from Blago & Jackson & Obamas & Madigans & Emanual & Quinn Pro Quo !!!!!

Illinois is a cesspoll of corruption ! Private citizens have no rights, only corrupt union bosses and companies that are either being extorted to comply for their survial or are just willing co conspiritors! Private citizens do not stand a snowballs chance in hell !

Every branch of state government is geared to their advantage, even Crook County Judges!

The contempt they show for citizens is deplorable ! President Lincoln is rolling over in his grave.

Yes the dictator democrats want unengaged people to stay home. Dictator democrats want the uneducated or the "mushroom people" !

Democracy only works when it is convienent for them or their rights have been infrindged apon. Dissenters have no rights!!!!!!!!!

Get over it. Forget about the so called honest Abe. You have not met or voted for a true honest polytician in our lifetime. Democracy will survive as we saw in the recent Cantor defeat. We just need to get the people out to vote in November and then prepare for 2016.
