Does everyone remember Turner and Marynowski saying that there was never a paintball facility interested in building near 159th and I-355. After Colorelli said that was untrue they called him a liar and changed their tune slightly to say they never saw a "formal presentation".

Now read yesterday's article on the paintball facility going into Dellwood Park West. The article and owner of the paintball park were VERY clear that they wanted to build on 159th, but were rejected by the council. The owner didn't really hide his disdain for our previous council.

Pete comes out of this smelling like roses and Marynowski and Turner are once again exposed.

This also confirms what most of us already know - Turner and his gang are t friendly to developers. They hide behind the fact that they never saw "official" presentations. That is true, but just a matter of semantics because Turner shut things down before developers even got in front of the council.

Further proof that the voters made the right decision on Alril 9th.

The paintball facility was originally proposed to to be on the north side of 159th Street, just west on I-355. The initially presented their concept plan to Mayor Trevedi and his staff, who all were very interested in what they had in mind for that location. When their proposal was brought to the attention of Turner, he decided that he didn't like it and that his majority of five would oppose it if it was ever brought before the city council. As a result of Turner's opposition, they withdrew their plan and never even submitted it to the Planning Commission for consideration. Turner had shot it down before a "formal presentation" was ever prepared. Turner never saw a "formal presentation" because he had already told them not to even bother preparing one.

Have you looked at that "prime commercial property". It's a river valley!!

Please explain how the undulating hills of this river valley is "prime commercial property".

Turner screwed that deal up just like everything he did over the past two years.

Hmm perhaps the fact the paintball facility was suppose to include a HOTEL and was anticipated to host numerous tournaments, which I don't know may have attracted other businesses like restaurants, shops, maybe office space, perhaps a movie theater. You know revenue generators to offset the cost of capital improvement projects and either hold property taxes where the taxes are at or even gasp.... lower them. Never mind that let us just concentrate on calling people ignorant names and offer no solutions of your own.

The other posters points are correct. This would have been great for the riverbed area over there. The developer talked about creating an entertainment district over there with water park, hotel and maybe movie theater. You're telling me lockport couldn't use that?

You want a restaurant? Do some research to see the correlation of hotels and restaurants.

Remember this was a developer who had grand ideas while the city was sitting on their hands. Turner discouraged the developer from even trying to work with the city.

The developer wanted to be in the area so bad that he did an end around on Turner to get into the city via the Park District. Unfortunately, it's now tucked in a back corner and won't be bringing any real development with it.

South of Dellwood Park is unincorperated Lockport so it will not be in the city unless we annex it.

The site now being considered for the paintball facility is Dellwood Park West, which is west of Dellwood Park, not south, and it is already inside the city limits.

It is part of Lockport, which is why they're working with the Lockport City Administrator on the project.

Just found out about this paintball park. My wife myself and my 2 kids took a bike ride today to our favorite spot in Lockport. We wanted to see the cool limestone cliffs and all the wildlife(especially all the turtles that hang out over there. When we got there all we saw was some construction trailers and a port o pot. All the trees on one side had been completely cleared out. The other side with the even bigger cliff had a lot cleared out also. We walked up to the pond and did not see one turtle. There is usually at least 20 hanging out on the logs. I can't believe the Lockport park district approved this garbage. The place is going to be called "Realm of ruin". Well at least they got the name right. What a joke! Something needs to be done about this, but maybe it's too late. Not just too late to keep this nice little spot in the park, but too late for Lockport to do anything of quality in general.Look at our wonderful thriving downtown. Great huh? Has/had so much potential.

LOCKPORT NEEDS THIS KIND OF DEVELOPMENT!! Maybe it will affect our downtown in a positive way, maybe it will bring in other business, maybe MORE development, which means more tax dollars for Lockport = TO MAKE IT A BETTER TOWN TO LIVE IN.

What, exactly, are these turtles and limestone cliffs contributing to our town? Your viewing pleasure? That's kind of selfish of you, doncha think? There are tons of other limestone cliffs you can gawk at elsewhere in Illinois and If you are jonesing for a turtle viewing, I'm sure you can view even more than 20 at once at any given pet shop....Hell, you can even purchase more than 20 turtles, a tank, even some logs and set it up in your home for your very own personal viewing pleasure whenever the need arises!

Personally, I think it will be MUCH MORE pleasurable to ride your bike back up there after the paintball park is completed and view a bunch of people chasing and shooting each other with paintball guns. WAAAY more interesting than at least 20 boring turtles on logs or a bunch of limestone cliffs.....coincidently, you DO know they look EXACTLY the same every time you look at 'em and never change, right? Just take a picture!

You must be some paintball geek. I'd rather see it stay natural than have a bunch of morons shooting paint balls at each other. I hope you are under sixteen years old. Whatever. Another great choice of business to open in Locktucky.

Lockport does not to be a city that has every square inch of green green grass paved over to achieve the unattainable "economic development" of a major/minor city. That is what Chicago and Joliet are for.

Want a movie theater? Rehab the already existing one located in downtown Lockport, though I understand the interior has been altered quite dramatically.

Want more choices for restaurants? Allow outdoor cafes along State Street. I mean, how many biker bars and antique shops can a small city have? Is that the major attraction to draw people to Lockport, by having bars and over-priced antique shops?

We moved to Lockport to get away from the City, not to become a part of it.

And while I am at it, leave the 355 corridor alone. We don't need warehouses built that are going to sit empty for years, becauses that is what will happen. There is no draw to build warehousing along an expensive tollroad, especially when trucks are paying over $7 per booth.

Since the area where the proposed Target was supposed to be built is already partially developed, allow a few chain stores to open, especially restaurants.

Paintball and turtle debate? Wow I never saw that coming. Yeah, nothing like those paintball people flocking to a community and spreading their wealth around. The downtown should be bustling minutes after the ribbon cutting.

Actually, no. Never even held a paintball gun. As far as "geek" goes, who is the one on here crying over no longer being able 2 watch turtles on a log or limestone cliffs? Also, not under age 16.
Also, yes it actually IS a great choice of business to open in LOCKPORT. There's not enough here to keep the teenagers busy and out of trouble and the 20-somethings out of the bars. It IS a physical activity, probably moreso than bike-riding, and the park will offer cross-country skiing during the winter months. Another bonus is that it will bring more desperately needed revenue to Lockport. This park will benefit many. So until those turtles can frequent our local establishments with wads of cash, or gold is discovered in those limestone cliffs, you don't have a case here. Now go turn on the NatGeo channel and quit whining.
You may be right in a way. Who knows? I was just annoyed that a place we would go to all the time that was away from everyone and a nice relaxing place was being torn up. We have two pet turtles and my kids love them. That's all. There have been so many cool spots I used to go as a kid that have been torn up for town homes or whatever else. Now it is a paintball place. Eventually NatGeo is the only place we will see anything, sorta sad. Whatever. I'm not standing out with a picket sign or anything. lol. Maybe it might be OK. I really don't know how much revenue it will bring, maybe more than the vacuum store downtown. I'm sure paintball is fun, just sort of stupid.

This will be a good things for the town. They are not "teering up" the park at all. Most of it will simply be left as is and it is designated open space.

This is something sorley needed in this town. Brings in people from out of town, creates sales tax revenue and is an actual form of entertainment this town lacks. Everyone is crying about lockport not having growth but guess what? we are a small town of less then 25k people. No more stores or restaurants are going to come here. And no bars will because everyone loves the dives so much. So this is really what they got.

Should be a good tool to bring people in from all over and have fun.
