DISRESPECT ABOUNDS IN CC

Lockport, IL

#2 Feb 23, 2013
I just watched the meeting since I missed it on my comcast. I could not belive the disrespect that ald. Turner showed to Ald. Deskin at that meeting. If you have no respect for another alderman what would you expect that that alderman would have for the residents of this city? He was an embarrassment to one and all. No wonder we have no developers here! No wonder we have nobody that wants to deal with our city. No wonder we are backward. Kelly LEAN BACKWARD IS A POLITICAL HACK. Notice how when Mary K. Cambell talked and Bob Morres talked how quiet he was. They love Lockport and what it stands for. They as Chamber people showed him what they are made of. They are made of truth and worth. Elect a new Mayor, Steve Streit and let's get some respect in this town again. It is the laughing stock of every other town near us. They are getting all the business and we are getting the rif raf of this slate led by none other than Kelly T. Vote your wallet! Vote for accountability! Vote for Transparency! Just vote! And make your vote count! Look out, folks, he will be on here in a minute with a new name and one of his proxy isps. We do not care!
Just like Rush

I watched the meeting and I am just like Rush. I am ashamed of Aldermen that show no respect for our fellow citizens, aldermen or people. All he ever talks about is politics in regard to the minority. He is ridiculous and so insulting to everyone but his friends. He has shown my family that we will be out working our neighborhood to get the new people, not his bidders, elected. I am voting for Smith and Streit in my ward but I am talking to my numerous friends at the high school that live in town and my grown married children are talking to their friends and families. We want progress not his insults! By the way, I lived in the south end for a short period of time and the water was BROWN!

I do not have cable but I have internet so I thank you EJCDAD for giving us the city meeting. It sure was informative. Yes, I have brown water most of the time and I live in the south end of town.

If you bookmark the user that uploaded the meeting, you can see all the meetings. He usually gets them up there a few days after the actual meeting.

If you have bad water you should be calling and emailing your aldermen and the mayor. The current council is content just arguing and only pressure from voters will change that.

We live in the south end of town too, and our water is terrible. I was never really great, but it started getting progressively worse in about 2005 or 2006. It corrodes and stains our plumbing fixtures to no end.
We keep on hearing promises of "Elect me and I'll lower your water rates."
We don't have a problem with the price we are paying for water - the real problem is with the quality of the water that is being provided and all of the expense of filtering and softening it before we can use it. Our water looks just like that stuff that Alderman Deskin held up at the meeting. Yes, we get the senior discount from the city, but that doesn't even begin to offset what we are spending on our plumbing.

You must be a "transplant" (sarcasm not directed at you) these problems never would have occurred had it not been for the growth. The issue is the infrastructure plain and simple and it needs to be replaced and has needed it for years. Is there going to be pain for everyone, yes are my water rates going to go up in order to pay for this, most likely. Capping the two wells is a temporary solution that doesn't fix the long term problem. IF the city council had the vision a number of years ago this would most likely not have been an issue.

I lived in the south end as a child and I am fifty nine years old. The water then was brown. It should have been fixed years ago but this council has had numerous complaints and they actually have made water an issue. They are telling people that water rates are too high. That is ridiculous. Most people have bottled water. We get a senior discount and everyone on this end of town will tell you the same thing. I still live in this end of town but a different spot. I do not think the people complained years ago but they sure have the last couple of years and nothing has been done. Ald. Kelly is not getting our vote for Mayor. He is the source of the problems in this city. He has not developed stores, restaurants, got rid of a quality staff, and we have to go to Walmart built long before HIM on there and out of town for other important things. He had a letter written about benches in town. This is quite an accomplishment for the entire town. Most of us drive on the bad roads and buy bottled water. Our downtown looks like a war zone and not one thing has been done. Our tif should be kicking in, no thanks to him. We need a new Mayor and I meant Jason Vandeemeer and he is an intelligent man. He gets my vote and I am voting for Steve Streit! He will bring character and strength back to this town. Those women running are not getting votes from the people I know as they are backing Turnoor. I want respectability, we use to have it, but no more. A new Mayor can fix all the problems in his four years plus more I hope! Look at his website, it tells all. He is quite a man! Also vote out the two old guys in those wards. They are bobbleheads!

The water is polluted because it comes straight "no filters" from the Chicago shipping & sanitary canal.

If you remember correctly Ald Turner at the time along with former Ald Piazza were screaming to anyone who would listen that Lockport got screwed on the Wal-Mart deal http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1N1-11A229E2B1D29... (As soon as can get the full story I will post it). In my opinion had it been left to these two the site never would have been developed. I have asked Ald Turner on numerous occasions what NEW development has he brought and to this day I have heard nothing but crickets from him.

During the meeting Ron Caneva ask if people sent the water to public works that the problem could be flushing of the hyrdants. Sorry Mr. Caneva hydrants aren't flushed during the winter months. This is indicative of the mindset of the administration there is always some other explanation other than the obvious. I wish to God I could remember which mayor it was if it was Mitchell or Murphy when addressed about the water and they stated they did not want to kick it down the road but thats what they did.

It was Mitchell. I remember it well. He is another one that never accomplished anything and is a part of that Robensen group I believe.

Went to ask him personally to help. Nothing was done! It is a total farce and don't believe what the guy writes on here with several names and isps. He is running for the top. What a disgraceful thing this will be if he gets it. I am already looking at a surrounding town if he does and moving to where there is development and stores and entertainment. Unlike this city which has great possibilities and had been started in 2005 going somewhere, it is all downhill now. There are too many idiots on there in a slate that have toppled this city.

It's not to late for Lockport. It would probably be better (in many ways) to help get Lockport going in the right direction vs. moving. You can either start helping yourself or help get the smarter pro-Lockport candidates elected.

You folks are smart and know basic infrastructure investments must be done before anything. If your water and streets are bad along with a downtown that is hanging on by its fingernails your property values will lag in any economy. We must clear this council and make sure we replace with open minded people without odd agendas. Do your homework or don't vote. Will someone tell me who this new savior Streit is?

Yes water, sewer etc need to and should have been done years ago. I agree with your homework statement. Not voting though is tantamount to voting for the status quo.

Thanx for the guidance. Look forward to meeting this man. My first reservation is that I hope he is tough enough to not become a windsock like Pete did. Pete lost me when he got behind a school project that data and time proved unneeded. Dev was good man too, but just did not have the one on one toughness to push through agenda. Again it will take a strong man with personal toughness and salesmanship,

Pete is not running for anything so I think you have your issues mixed up. Dev is a wimpy guy. Right from the start he was not tough and he showed no leadership letting them do the budget when we had qualified people there that had always did it. He appointed them to committees and they spit in his face. Then Pete and the rest of the ones that have shown leadership, as people on the street are saying, did not have a chance because everything the taxpayers put into the city went out the window on studies and more studies to their friends. The bobble people were screaming and acting like total idiots from day one! They still are! Steve Streit is a level headed person with a business and lives in this community. He has worked for the community. He is not a windsock! If you want to see windsocks look at Kelly's slate of people and he is out there getting women to join it. Their backgrounds, one and all, should be looked at. I do not like people who throw family values away! I do not like people who laugh and make insults to the community and servants of the community! The last meeting was a perfect example of an insulting cad! We need leaders, not like people who act like second graders shouting and screaming to get a lie across on camera! It takes toughness and from there you will see greatness...but only if you vote the right way! I think Streit (READ HIS PROFILE..HE HAS ONE...AND IT IS ALL TRUE) will make a great mayor for this city. I also think Jason V. will do well. I think Tom Kelley and Dick Vandeke need to go! They are both bobbleheads. Kelly and abstaining Mary will go next time around. Vote for the community, vote like it matters, because it does! If you love Lockport then you want development, restaurants, and great quality stores. You also want the rules/ordinances to be obeyed. Out with the old guard on all fields, in with the younger innovative people to serve our community and get it going again. And don't forget downtown and the revitalization of downtown! It once was a viable town with people shopping, going to the movies, drug stores, clothing stores, etc. Now I hate to say it but it is a ghost town downtown and will remain so if we do not start caring about it.

Forgot to mention the fact that Pete's job depended on speaking up for the referendum. He had a family and a job and you do what your bosses want not what you believe. This is a lame excuse at best. He has not been associated with the high school for years and he has a large family and is a good person. The only critics he has are the jealous ones that come up with the fact he worked for the high school. I don't see the high school sellling the land. I saw Kelly T. clapping for the bowling team. So, let's be a hypocrit. A job is a job. When you have mouths to feed you do what you are told. I know that is the way it is where we work too. You can't say anything but do what the boss tells you. Too bad it does not gel with working people and Pete won overwhelmingly in his ward for his position. People really like him and we do too!
