Why is it she is they only superintendent that can do this? Why can she get away with it? She makes more money that over 3/4 of the superintendents in Illinois, but her school only has 300 kids....yet somehow they aren't making AYP..... interesting....

It's horrible that 10% of those grants are going to her. But I do want to point out that making AYP is extremely hard. The No Child Left Behind Act is affecting schools in a negative way.

I agree, but she hasn't done anything to help those students succeed, she hires people to teach that aren't teachers and don't have their teaching certificates and then wonders why students aren't making ayp. Then they finally got kicked out of the classroom, and she put them as interventionists- once again- these people aren't teachers- don't have a teaching background- haven't taken any undergrad or graduate classes in education- yet these are the people she hires at the same rate of a teacher to "help" the students who need help the most- and then is shocked when the scores don't go up........hmmmm.......

Just to let you know, teachers aides are all over but there also must be a certified teacher in the room.

This is why she is getting $172,000, 33 years and doctorate degree. This doesn't make it right for that small district but she does have credentials to back herself up.

Illinois is one of the top states in financial disaster but yet these teachers pension are raping
the state. Why isn't someone like Lisa Madigan looking into this?

How Schools Pad Pensions
How the scheme works:
Teacher Pensions Put Strain On State: End-of-career salary spikes inflate costs for Illinois retirement fund by Diane Rado and Darnell Little, Chicago Tribune, Sunday, June 29, 2003, page 1. "More than 70 percent of full-time teachers and school staff who retired in the suburbs and Downstate Illinois in the last decade pocketed double-digit pay increases and other perks shortly before leaving--costing state taxpayers millions in higher pension payments, a Tribune investigation has found. Using such salary spikes to boost pensions is legal in Illinois but highly unusual and sometimes outlawed elsewhere ... The perks have been doled out even as the economy soured, local districts battled deficits, and the Teachers' Retirement System ... struggled with shortfalls.
"But though local districts pay for the perks initially, the cost of the inflated pensions that result is spread to taxpayers statewide, who largely fund the TRS system.
"[B]ig pay increases pad pensions because the highest salary years are used to calculate retirement pay for years to come....
"The salary of Schaumburg High School business education teacher Martin Barski rose from $91,151 to $142,536 in his final years with District 211, district records show. At 55, Barski retired last year with a pension of about $72,000 ...
"'This is insanity,' said William Huley, president of Arlington Heights-based Northwest Tax Watch.'It's all about padding [pensions] at taxpayer expense. The salary and benefits are out of control.'"

Big Pay Boosts In Last Years Blow Out Retirement Packages by Tim Novak, Chicago Sun-Times, July 13, 2003. In this spectacular front-page package, district superintendents come under fire for lavish benefit and retirement packages. In addition, the Sun-Times carried this caption ...
Henry Bangser, New Trier High School's superintendent, is looking forward to retirement in 2006. And why wouldn't he? A flurry of 20 percent pay raises will hike his annual pension as high as $232,500. That's more than governors get. And even if you don't live in Bangser's rich North Shore district, you'll pay for it.

$788,320 last year, but I earned it. I didn't have taxpayers padding my pocket and pension.

Just to let you know- there was NO certified teacher in the room- there is a difference between teachers aide and teacher, and there wasn't any certified teacher in those classrooms when they were in there. Ask for a copy of their video tapes and see if you can see any certified teacher walking into those classrooms.... you'll be surprised.

After she add's in the stipend she gives herself for doing the grants, she ranks right up there with them.... and yet she only has 300 students, and her school isn't able to make AYP. I don't care what "credentials" you have on a piece of paper- if you can't help the school then you shouldn't be getting paid that much, AND all of those superintendents you listed have MANY schools they are responsible for- she is only responsible for ONE SCHOOL with 300 students!!! THIS IS UNDERHEARD OF!!!!

It is incredible that this "woman" has been receiving a salary plus incentives in a FAILING school district. The test scores keep getting lower and lower, yet good ol' Doris keeps getting paid more and more money.

I truly hope the Fairmont School Board writes some ACCOUNTABILITY into the next super's contract! You can't have someone running a school district who obviously doesn't care about the academic performance of the children. Doris cares more about her pocketbook than the educational success of the children of Fairmont School. This is utterly appalling to me!

Maybe someone should call in the Feds to investigate the district... I'm willing to bet they will definitely find even MORE corruption in the Fairmont School District! Shame on them for sacrificing the academic achievement of our children for their own selfish greed!

Doesn't EVERY child deserve a good education? No Child Left Behind is obviously a JOKE. As is the Illinios "Academic Watch List." Has any progress been made at that school? Slim to none! Why is this allowed to even happen?!

I am a Fairmont resident with an elementary school-aged child, but it would be a cold day in hell that I EVER sent my child to that poor excuse of a school. I truly feel sorry for those parents in the district that don't have the means to pay to send their children to private school or even to another district.

If the Illinois Board of Education cares anything about the education of these children, they would shut down Fairmont School, thoroughly investigate Doris and her cronies (the former school board), and consolidate the district with one of Lockport's districts so these children can take advantage of an excellent education!!!
