"There obviously needs to be a culture change at the Fairmont School District. There are several ways this can get done. I suggest finding a way that provides immediate results. This can be done by gathering concerned parents/members of the community and form a focus group for change. We have to make the administration accountable for their actions.
It won't happen overnight. We all need to be committed".- GEORGE FORTIER

I have corresponded back and forth with George a number of times, and he seems like he genuinely cares about the city of Lockport. I think everyone would benefit from hearing his ideas and making an educated decision based on his views.

Hey George:

How long have you lived in Lockport?

Haven't you only voted one time and it was the last primary? Is it because you just moved here or because you have voter apathy?

Where were you for the past 7 years?

I moved to Lockport in June of 2006. I have been keeping my ear to the ground to try to understand the culture of Lockport, IL. Since Lockport is going to be the city where my family and I are going to plant our roots, I've decided to utilize my political interest into understanding what needs to be done for Lockport to finally "turn that corner." There needs to be a voice. A voice that isn't afraid to not only say...but do...to benefit this city. One person cannot do it all, input is needed, and has to be understood, for this city to prosper. This is where I come in. Maybe not next election, but in time, I will prove my dedication.

Please, do not hesitate to email me with any/all questions/concerns you may have at [email protected]

Lockport should be happy a new fresh face in the community is taking interest in the politics. How is it possible for you to make a decision based on one short paragraph? Why not watch and wait to see what George has in mind. Obviously he is intelligent enough to wait a while and learn as much as he can about the community before he throws his hat in. I think your quick judgment is premature and uneducated.

I agree-sounds like he has passion for the city, which is more than I can say for the current mayor!

George-don't wait another four years...run for it in April '09!

You can't stand the current mayor, more than likely for personal reasons. But take a look around at the developement of Lockport. I could care less if Murphey is the biggest jerk in the world he has gotten results and that is all I care about.
On the other hand you want to turn the keys to the city over to an anonymous person who writes a couple of sentences in an internet blog. What do you know about George? Is he even of legal age or some 14 year having fun? Does he have a criminal record? Is he a citizen? What are his politics and credentials that makes him so qualified in your book? Oh thats right you don't know the answers to any of those basic questions but you are going to vote for him. While you are at it I want to be KING OF LOCKPORT. You will be my subject and fear me. I demand your subservience. What a fool!

saying things like taking Lockport to the next level or to "Turn that corner"
doesn't really say what your ideas and plans really are?

Wow, somebody who actually questions the clich├ęs. You sir or madam should be commended. I think it is a prank by a local adolescent or it quite possibly could be a mentally ill adult acting out fantasies on the PC while collecting disability.

Hey George, show yourself man. If you are a man of substance quit hiding behind an e-mail address that basically equates to a PO box. Until then you are all show and no go.

Criticizing an individual who has good intentions can only get you so far. We are deep in the information age, the Internet is a powerful tool, not just for people to use as an avenue to "speak out loud" where they wouldn't open their mouths otherwise.

In short I see a lot of complaining. Period.

I'm making an effort to get my name out there slowly and effectively. You cannot fix every problem and solve every issue overnight.

George, I'm all for you getting your name and message out there using the internet. The problem is, you're being vague and relying on catch phrases to try and get residents to recall your name come election day rather than engaging them in a discussion of Lockport's problems or asking for feedback on how you could be a good mayor.

Lockport's main thoroughfare is ugly, its high school is overcrowded, its house values declined 6% last month, and there's alot of unused industrial land cluttering up an otherwise beautiful waterway. How do you fix that when our taxes are already staggeringly high?

If you can formulate a detailed plan that addresses and solves those problems I'd vote for you in a heart beat. I won't, however, be basing my vote off of name recognition.
