Red, You are missing the point. The point is you don't put a boxing club on Michigan Avenue, you put it on the side streets away from the crowds and upscale establishments. State Street is, or at least could be - our only Michigan Avenue and we have to preserve it for more respectable businesses.

Would you want to open a jewelry store, book store, clothing store, etc. next to a boxing ring or would you want to put it next to a nice family restaurant or legal/insurance office?

Any business owner with an eye for their image would definitely want a more professional business next to them.

I'm just looking at all these comments and laughing and getting a little heated at the same time! I used to box down at the east side boxing club when Bucky Moreno was the coach. I was about 14 when I started. Then Mary took over and no Jermaine Bennet and his father. What I want to say is that by all these unwanted people down there who are you aiming at? Boxers or the color of people its going to bring? Because I tell you this we are all colored fighters none white. And another thing, I give boxing so much credit because that kept me busy and my nose out of trouble when I needed it. Boxing yeah its a tough sport but not all people are made for it. Were not bullies we dont go around looking for fights, Ive prevented more fights than anything and I swear if anybody ever wanted to fight me I know what I can do so I either turn away or the one time I had to fight I made the least amount of contact that needed to be made to ensure my safety. We are taught disciplin and self control and many other things other than a bunch of sweaty meatheads pounding each others brain out. And why not downtown? The gym in Joliet was downtown right above Phallons furniture? What are you people so damn afraid of? What do you mean its going to ruin the image of downtown Lockport? I guess the streets of gold and sidewalks of silver will never be the same again huh? Im a big guy and to the Lockport residents might see me walking in and out of there every once in a while and might think im some thug or gangster just because of how i look but i tell you this, your only afraid because you dont know. This is old fashioned boxing not mma fighting or any of that jazz, If you wanna know something come find out what were about and then you wont be anymore. till then I think alot of people here have the whole story extremely twisted! By the way I love downtown lockport and the three hours i spend there while im working out! thanks for your city guys i mean that sincerly, because if werent for you all where would we keep all the kids busy at? preventing future gangbangers from coming up and keeping others pre occupied from doing random acts of crime? I really mean to say thank you!

The boxing club did not receive the special permit tonight. Therefore, the boxing club will not be going in that space.

Plus, the resolution to create a revolving loan fund was discussed. When the mayor called for a motion for a vote to approve nobody made a motion. The resolution died without a vote.

You are absolutely correct. Some where along the lines of this post I have lost sight. I can agree that the boxing establishment should be placed somewhere else. I would think that putting it in the old sage's would be a good idea. Right in between ooga booga and the dance school and across the street from Dan's automotive lol. The problem here that helped me to lose sight was the rude and ignorant comments from people who do not even live in Lockport. And then it took a turn when the argument became that boxing was dangerous (as opposed to any other sport. Anyway, thank you for bringing meback down lol.:)

Finally!!:) I could not agree with you more. My son has been bullied over and over by a groupd of teenagers that call them selves teh BBFC (Bonnie Brae Fight Club). It's quite sick actually. I have seen videos on you tube. These kids are beating the crap out of each other for fun and then taking their "street" skills to the younger more timid kids in the neighborhood. I have been searching for a boxing ring so that my 12 yr.old son can learn self defense simply so that he can feel safe in his own neighborhood as well as keep him off the streets. I don't care what color you are. I am white, my son is white, my entire family is white. Color has nothing to do with it for me at all, in fact the neighborhood we live in is predominantly white. These punk arse teenagers that have created the BBFC and are terrorizing the little ones are white. So....black....white....I don't care. I just want my son to be able to defend himself and have an extra curricular activity to keep him off of the streets. You mentioned that there was a boxing ring in Joliet. Is it still there? Do they accept 12 year old boys?

You are correct. Sage's is a much better location for this type of business, but under no circumstances do I think the City should pay one cent for this or offer up any special financing for it. If the guy can't afford to start his business here, then he is like any other dreamer that wants to start a business.

I really don't think it is a color issue, but here are some options -

http://www.boxinggyms.com/addresses/illinois....

Maybe your son should try martial arts. There is a new place in town that can help with that and in many cases is a much better means of self defense.

We are currently researching the Martial Arts. Just after posting my last post I received a telemarketing phone call from a man who was promoting Will County "Gloves for Guns". Finally!!!! I support this motion and can not wait for the Gloves for Guns program to be put into full force!!

In my opinion, martial arts is the better way to go. Anyone can throw a punch, but it will completely take a bully off-guard if he knows martial arts. Good luck.

Only an idiot would participate in this program. Now is the time to get a gun permit. Make sure you turn in your gun though. Who was this telemarketer, someone in our current government.

I have two sons one chose to become a Blackbelt in Tae kwon do and one who chose to train with Germain Bennet and Sean Mcginn at the Joliet boxing Club.

In My opinion My boy who trained with Germain and sean is much better prepared to handle a bully than my son who is a black belt

now i didnt think this was possible and even tried to convince my son that he should go into the martial arts with his brother. He chose boxing and now I wish my other son would have too

Bottom line is if you want to spend $1000's on uniforms a fancy moves then put your kid in martial arts. If you want him to be able to defend himself and have the confidence to do so then put him in boxing.

I heard that Sean has found a new location and will be opening soon. I believe there is still a sign in the window with his phone # for information on the new location.

Oswald Cobblepot is an idiot and probably was not aloud to leave the house as a kid. I'm sure his mommy protected him from all the bullies.

The Town of Lockport has made a big mistake!

Good you can go there. Maybe they can use your stomach as a punching bag until you go lifeless. You waste of space. Go take you rboxing club and put it where it belongs. Not in my historic downtown area. Stick it.
A boxing club in downtown, what is next, a wh--e house. Maybe Just a Porter Girl could finally find some employment there. Or Someone could finally beat the crap out of Lockport resident.

Listen jerk weed if you knew anything about historic lockport it was built around saloons, and wh0re houses, and yes it had horse races, gambling establishments, and even boxing gyms.

this town was built as a blue collar town and it will always be a blue collar town. Stop trying to change us into some kind of artsy frilly boutique town.
