Weekly Reporter folds shop in Lockport...

Will they cover this Breaking News story about their own move out of Lockport??? If not why not??

Why leave the office space for your bedroom???

It would seem they now have a fake downtown Joliet address that is actually a vacant lot and whats left of the "paper" is starting to go Spanish. SO funny.

The former Lockport office space is the hallowed and historic ground that Kelly Turner announced his candidacy for 2009 mayor...(again). Will a shrine be erected at ground zero??? Perhaps a sign with an arrow on 355 for visitors???

I noticed while driving past the world headquarters of the Weekly Reporter on North State St. that a prominent "for rent" sign was displayed where the "Weekly Reporter" banner once hung.

It seemed curious that there was no coverage of the Lockport Mayoral race for an alleged "Lockport based" newspaper.

Who stopped paying or rent John Gabriel???

So long John Gabriel, back to the bedroom at your granddaughter's section 8 housing unit.

Is that where you were stealing all of the copies from? Too bad, now you have nothing else to do with your spare time.

Is this true? I drove by their storefront and sure enough, they're gone? Where did they go? Will the paper still be printed? We need papers like this to keep politicians honest!

I am not certain that this is gone yet. A lot of newspapers are making moves like this to reduce costs. Obviously the office was as small as an office can get, so perhaps he is working out of his house, but it is unlikely. We won't know for sure until we stop seeing these things around. I picked the paper uo from time to time.

According to an article on page 4 of this week's edition (dated August 5, 2009), "The Weekly Reporter will discontinue distribution with the current edition of the paper." No more "award-winning" articles from Mr. Gabriel!

So much more to this story is coming out. Mr Gabriel has been forced to shut the paper down immediately due to numerous court actions and lawsuits. Also he (Gabriel) recently has come under several investigations, Federal and local.
I hope Miles Goodson, Mark Goodson, Ralph LaPorte, Kenny Holmes and other fine staff at the weekly distorter can find work. What a horrible time to leave them out in the cold.
It is ironic for those involved with this paper how their lives have taken such a drastic turn downward.
Lets take a look down memory lane of those involved with the one time little tabloid newspaper:
Phil Petrakos, part owner of Weekly Distorter paper boy, loses county board race, wife then kicks him out of his house due to lack of job and obsession with local politics, he now lives with his mother and remains unemployed.
"Award Winning" writer John Gabriel, Summary of much longer version: lives in bedroom of grandaughters house after years of being kicked out of one community to another, he lands in Lockport where a group of political losers band together to fund his rent in exchange for his stories about their common enemies. They drop paying his rent after they all lost AGAIN in April 09. Moves empire to grandaughters bedroom to attempt to continue publishing newsletter. Now under the weight of court orders, investigations and lawsuits, he flees the scene and folds it all.
Kelly Turner, part owner of Weekly Distorter and paper boy gambles last remaining dollars to make yet another run for Lockport elected office and loses yet again another election...number 6 in a row. Immediately discontinues supplying funds to John Gabriel's rent and paper distribution, this leaves John unable to pay his rent on his Lockport office.
I prefer to call it the "Weakly Distorter". Weakly like the losers that are involved with it.

John Gabriel ran for office in Cicero over and over until the age of 82, and couldn't win to save his life. His daughter's house in Romeoville is foreclosed on. I hope she has some place to stay when she gets out of prison. He now lives with his grandaughter Margarita, who he has tried to get elected in Troy Township, to no avail.

You reap what you sow my friend. This is just the most recent in a LONG line of failures for this man. Will he ever learn? Why don't you speak up, Mr. Gabriel - the floor is yours!!
