Tear it down and build affordable housing on the site. Who cares about visiting the ostentatious home of some greedy family. People are beyond stupid. No wonder we're in the shape we're in.

It has a real Norma Desmond look and feel to it. It is time to cut bait and dump this white elephant.

To all you Trustees, it is up to YOU to raise money for your museum. If you can't do it, you should resign.

Somebody post last year's budget, I am ready for my close up Mr. DeMille.

Only in Suffolk County could you take an extremely valuable asset that was given to them for nothing in addition to an endowment worth millions to pay for operation and run the whole thing into the ground. Unbelievable!!!
How does this place not make money!!! Most of the people who work there are volunteers. Unless the few people who work there collect county salary and benefits...insane! Schools are there constantly. WHat a joke!
The mansion was donated to Suffolk County by the Vanderbuilts, along with cash to help keep it up. It's basically a public park now, so if the museum closes then the public doesn't get to view it, and it's owned by the County still.... and will still have to be maintained and so on... might as well throw some dollars at it to keep it open for all of us to view. In the end, it's a government institution and when have those ever been known to be profitable?

Are you kidding me asking for money where did all the money go from all the fee's charged for tours entrence fee's and etc... Where did this money go? I want to know! In your personal pocked I think, everybody like this needs a pay cut how much you making you should be investigated to see where all this money went, since opening day till current every penny should be accounted for, also why the hell is this fool Nassau County Supperintedent making $500,000 a year who makes that kind of money he needs a pay cut and also needs to be investigated.

I'm certain the local residents would applaud turning the vanderbilt estate into housing for low income folks. They would welcome the diversity it will bring to the neighborhood and have a servant class nearby.

I'm wondering why my original posting was deleted where I bet:
35,000 dollars the Vanderbilt Museum will "not" close and this is a publicity hype...

Maybe if the Planetarium started doing REAL planetarium shows, instead of showing movies and having sweaty people riding exercise bicycles in the dome, it would attract more people. Also, maybe if they had a staff that knew something about Astronomy, like they had years ago, more people would go there.
