So here's a notable cultural location that can be saved by a relatively insignificant amount of money. But no, the SCPD will probably need a raise soon.

Raise the fees, especially the wedding fee. Advertise and make it self sufficient.

Only in Suffolk County could you take an extremely valuable asset that was given to them for nothing in addition to an endowment worth millions to pay for operation and run the whole thing into the ground. Unbelievable!!!
How does this place not make money!!! Most of the people who work there are volunteers. Unless the few people who work there collect county salary and benefits...insane! Schools are there constantly. WHat a joke!

This is an amazing property, but is sorely underutilized. Perhaps if it were donated to the county, it could remain viable as a county park property. It is, unfortunately, a case of too little too late. Do these idiots really think that putting in a few vending machines or saving a few hundred in salaries will offset this deficit? Real management is required

This property needs to be saved. It should not be turned into housing. Just update the planetarium.

Open up the house to catering . Maybe make it a hotel or something. Come its not that hard.

I think the wealthy in the area -who bought when this place was already there- wouldn't mind seeing this place close down.
It is such a prime piece of real estste. Weddings should be done there on a regular basis.
But if u did that u would have hundreds of cars coming at almost the same time on both Saturday and Sunday and the locals would lose their minds.

I'm sure Gloria Vanderbilt and family member A. Cooper (60 min. reporter) have $35,000 to donate to the museum!!!!

I do not know about any of you who wrote in but I have been to this place on many school trips and it is the worst place I have ever been to.
It smells of old age,it was dirty, the kids got nothing out of it at all and could not wait to get back to school.
The ride was long for them ,the place where we ate lunch was horrible,I could go on and on,,
Close it down,,,it would cost to much to make it a decent place to visit.

What a terrible thing. This museum is part of Long Island
History. It is a beautiful place to visit. The Living History
Tour is great. It has always been a place to go for recreation, that was affordable to all. The county really
needs to step in here.We need more volunteer workers and larger entertainment venue's to generate money. How much can we afford to loose on Long Island..

About time someone wrote how bad this place is. People who say this should be saved for "cultural" reasons haven't been there. Its a dump! Just a bunch of museum "chairmans" who want to hang there while the place rots.
