The New Yorker cartoon cover depicts Barack and wife the wrong choice for the United States highest office. No matter what the past background of the couple will work in the electorate subconscious mind. In other words, a disaster for the Democrats.

I wonder if any of those Long Islanders have ever picked up a copy of the New Yorker. There are two rather lengthy (15,000 word+) articles (this is the New yorker after all) inside. The content of those articles will most certainly be eclipsed by the cover image proving that we live in a visual society where it is quite acceptable to "Judge a book by its cover." The image is is a cartoon, arguably a caricature if one bothers to take in the exaggerated physical features. This would have to be your first experience with a political cartoon if you were to take it literally.

It is the New Yorker. It's satire on how they feel right wingers feel about Osamabama.

It is intended to draw sympathy for the poor Obama's, and judging by the left wingers reactions, it's working nicely. Yep, the liberal press is out shilling for the Osamabama family bigtime.

Shameless sensational journalism purporting to sell magazines. Nothing new here in what the New Yorker is doing. In fact, all the fuss and articles about the cover are doing exactly what they want!

Making fun about someones chipmunk cheeks (McCain), or ears (Obama) is acceptable in my opinion. Its called a caricature - satire - a cartoon.

This garbage cartoon panders to the racist and bigotry and violence in this country and is incendiary.

Looking forward to an old chipmunk being on next month's cover because that would be less incendiary, less racist and just plain ol' funny.

No, silly Sydney, it is not the truth and that is why this kind of garbage "satire" is dangerous.

Nah, mean michelle would never take up arms to support her country. Maybe some anti-American (likely afrocentric or muslim) cause though.

As a Democrat, a supporter of Sen Obama, and a lover of all things satire, I find it horrible that the artist has to comment on his work. Of course it is inflammatory, but it isn't Obama who should be outraged, nor any of his supporters. What the picture is showing is that Republican attacks on Obama are absurd and they should be treated that way. If anyone should be angry, it should be the Republicans since they are, once again, the punchline to the present state of politics and political commentary. And, as per a reader's comment in the article, if people aren't informed enough to know that this was humorous, I don't think the artist should be faulted for their ignorance.

You are far more intelligent than the average democrat (which makes me wonder why you are a democrat, but that's another story) based on the typical democrat responses i've seen on the TOPIX forums and elsewhere.

Gil! It's just politics Gil. It's unfair sometimes. It's exagerated...on purpose. Adults take it in stride. It's a cruel joke...it will pass. Not fatal. It sharpens the dramatic differences between Mr. O and the competition.
It's actually FUN Gil! Mr. O is no "White Knight"...he's got credibility problems...bigtime.
...with adults.

I pity our Country, our economy, our Nation if that 'individual' gets elected.

He is a liar, has his own agenda, and would not represent the best interests of our Country.

Let's kick this into a positive posture. Action.

(Save pity and "if's" and passive stuff and recrimination. Obama is our native son.I have no hatred for my brother...he's merely mistaken.)

I love your choice of dynamic words. "The Best Interests of our Country". It's more than just an economy, or a military action.Or a set of new laws.Or new and different taxes. NO!
It's about our AMERICAN Way of Life. The social fabric of a Democratic Republic the likes of which and the grandeur that has never been achieved ever before. Our Heritage. Our contribution to the entire world. Our solemn obligation as the leading economic and world leader. Whatever we do must be comensurate with the legacy of greatness that characterizes our remarkable achievement. And anything even remotely less is and will forever be categorically unacceptable. And, like clockwork, when less is submitted, the unerring judgement of the people cast it back as unacceptable. Proof of the remarkable resiliency of the Institution of Freedom. We will not only survive these trials we "will overcome" them in the immortal words of one of our great leaders, Martin Luther King!
Let us proceed into our Destiny with Love and Hope and Resolve to accept the mantle of World Leadership which is our Legacy. We have the leadership to bravely accept all of the challenges ahead. Let's Roll AMERICA!
