From the Texas Tribune:
State Rep. James White left his job as a teacher in the Livingston Independent School District after repeated complaints of inappropriate sexual discussions in class, according to documents made public late Friday.
White, R-Hillister, and Mike Hamilton, R-Mauriceville, are engaged in a tough primary campaign. Hamilton asked the Livingston and Woodville school districts both former employers of White for the documents under the state's open records laws and released the results of that request to the media.
This is information that White should have revealed from day one so as to not put the Republican Party in such a difficult position," Hamilton said in a news release. "White has apologized for this to the students involved, but now he owes an apology to his supporters, his donors and to the Republican Party.
White didn't directly address the complaints in an interview Friday with the Tribune but said his teaching certificate has never been suspended and he wasn't fired.
"I finished that school year as a school teacher in good standing," he said of his time at Livingston. At the end of the year, White said, he was offered a renewal contract. The reason he resigned in July, he said, was because he was offered a position in Woodville, a district closer to his home.
"My teaching certificate has never been revoked and it's valid to this day," he said. A longer statement on the allegations is forthcoming, he said.
Hamilton's campaign summarized the documents from the school districts in its news release:
"According to the documents released by Livingston ISD, White was repeatedly the subject of complaints from parents and students for inappropriate sexual discussions in class. The behavior resulted in repeated investigations, reprimands and public apologies. For his behavior in his history class, James White was barred from campus while the full investigation was conducted. White was directed to stop this behavior or risk more serious remedies. The issue culminated with Whites resignation in July of that same year, 2007."
White, then a teacher in Livingston ISD, signed a memo titled "Disciplinary Action/Final Written Warning" in February 2007. It described the results of an investigation into student complaints about his behavior. "Students alleged you used profanity in the classroom.... Also, students were made uncomfortable because of your choice of example for judicial review, which was a case involving sodomy."
That memo cited an earlier instance in August 2006 in which White's principal had admonished him "to avoid use of sexual references in making your teaching points in the classroom."
He was told to stop using profanity and sexual references and told to apologize to his classes.
In a memo from his principal signed by White in August 2006 White's sexual references in class were described and he was asked to refrain from making similar references in the future:
One of the comments that was discussed during the conference was a statement that you made by asking the students "what is more intimate sharing your credit scores or having sexual intercourse?" It was discussed by the principal that this type of comment was indeed inappropriate. Other comments such as "girls are used as a utility for guys " were also deemed inappropriate. Further discussion took place in regard to student/parent complaints about comments such as "after a man and a woman have sex..then their undergarments are mixed together in the same washing machine." Additionally during our discussion, you mentioned that you had tried to make some sort of economic point by using the comparison of bodily fluids being swapped during sexual relations. As we all agreed during the conference, it is highly imperative that you refrain from continuing to make these types of references in the presence of students.

I just wish that he would stop the USPS FROM INSISTING ON THE USE OF 911 ADDRESSES FOR MAIL DELIVERY. These address types do not reflect the history or culture of our state. They only reflect that the people in charge of assigning 911 addressing do not know what safety is, and that they are just plain lazy. They are willing to break the law in order to enforce these ignorant type addresses. Balloons, Ribbons, and other such things are being used to help the citizenry find their roads. These assigned 911 addresses are confusing and do not lend themselves to help anyone find a particular road. They are generic in every way, and violate contract law and are a danger to the citizen's of the state of Texas. Put the real names of the roads back on them and stop this game. You are hurting people and property and even the state of Texas economy. And on top of that local officials are using these infernal names as a way of attacking and singling out their enemies. Make the post offices deliver the mail to an address even if it is not a 911 address. Our local post office has taken to not delivering mail to houses still receiveing mail with old 911 addresses even letters with the new 911 address are being returned. The citizen of our state are having their voice taken away by a bunch of overpaid office jockeys. I just wish that people like Congressman James Earl White could actually see and understand that 911 addressing in East Texas at least is being done without any hint of safety and the law in mind.
