They will probably just sit and let it keep getting worse. Just like the renovation of that building. They sunk hundreds of thousand of tax payers dollars into it and haven't even touched the old leaking, roten roof system. They have a real maintenance director there. Ofcourse, he is one of their closed door group. They have no plan, no accounibility, no leadership, no communication, no common sense, and no conscience. They are a disgrace to the children and the true meaning of an education system. When will the voters of that county finally wake up, take charge of their childrens education, and insure that their tax money is being spent wisely for the better of their education system.

You tell me, 2 people apply for a job in a school as a teacher.

One has 4 years of college with a focus on education, a license, experience substituting, and a clean criminal record.

The other has a little bit of college, no license, no experience in a classroom, and prior misdemeanors.

Which one do you hire?

If you live in Overton County the second gets hired because they have a family member working in the office, or are related to a school board member.

I was raised in Overton county and I know a lot of people. You are right. People tell me a lot about Overton and I keep up with things a little bit. It is a shame that the people just sit and let that stuff go on. I was told that they have had some state inspectors checking them out the last 2 or 3 weeks. I haven't heard any details much yet. From what I hear, they need to check them out good.

We as overton county voters need to be mindful of the problems our school system is having when election rolls around...Yes, our school system needs to have a MAJOR overhaul..Not just the Higher-beings I am talkin about everyone who is in our school from supervisiors, teachers, bus drivers all the way down to the janitors!!!Everyone needs to be re-evaluated..Our children would be better off with a few good teachers than a boatload of un-quailified teachers(because all you have is someone taking up space and tax payers money) And yes, we need change..And with Overton County being the Good Ole' Boy System is it. thats what has caused the Mess we have today..Its always been who gets hired is A friend of a friend or my family is so and so..Who cares!!!! who your friends are or your family!!! We as parents need to be thinking about our children and their future..And forget as this "BS"...Fire all the ones are not worthy of being around children...Dont sit around and wait for something to happened like it did at Allons..Just clean house and start all over...Smething has got to be done!!!!! If not our children is goin to be the ones who suffer on down the road....

People please remember, in order to change things in the Overton Co. School System, you need to vote OUT the current board and then you can get rid of Matt Eldridge. The board elects the director of schools, not the people of the county.

By the way, if you want to know the salaries of any Overton County employees, all you have toi do is go to Ron Cyrus office and request a copy of the payrole like I did.

This give you every branch of countty government. I wasn't even lookiing for school system salaries but noticed they were on there.

I guess I should not worry about overton county sense I don't live there anymore. It's just I know what is going on there and I know most everyone there. I just don't understand why parents especially just sit and let things get worse. O' Well I guess I will just tend to my own business. Good luck you dummies!

Who do we need to vote in to clean up our schools? Even if it's a write in. Changes won't be made until we stand up for our children's education. Let's get started!!!
Who do we need to vote in to clean up our schools? Even if it's a write in. Changes won't be made until we stand up for our children's education. Let's get started!!!
We need to find some one that has no ties to the ones that are alread in there, no conflict of interest, to stear them the wrong way. We need some one that is not afraid to stand up for what is right. Some one that cannot be bought or persuaded. Someone with good common sense. We don't need any more buddy-buddy or the good-old-boy bunch. We need someone that wants to stop the corruption and fraud.
And when we find someone with these qualifications, we need to work with them, stand behind them, and support them en every way. We need to take part in helping them make the overton county education system one to be proud of.

And outsider, your welcome to express your opinions sense you were once an overton countian and are still keeping up with the wrong doings. We need all the help we can get. thanks!

They give bus drivers more grief in this county than they do the teachers they have a lot. Of responsibility make no money now their are rumors they want to start makin them park the buses at the schools they drive at and use their own gas to get back and forth to them leaving buses unattended all night at an unsecured school is crazy just asking for trouble take a 100 dollars in gas to do that and take that off what they make and they make nothing if they walked I wouldn't blame them teachers and administrators make big money and get away with everything they weren't follicle tested for drugs like the bus drivers were a couple of years ago be fair leave them alone if they won't leave their cars there all night they are going to bring them the same distance back and forth after their afternoon route I wouldn't leave my car at a school all night don't blame them

Until the children are the most important group of people in the school system, all of us will pay the price. Instead of playing politics and scratching each others backs, I think we should be more concerned with encouraging and mentoring our children. Teaching them love not envy; and fairness not favoritism.

Well since it is only the 3rd year since race to the top and no schools were put on prob the first year yeah, none yet dumbass.

But they have taken over schools in Jackson and Putnam so it does happen and will happen.

all of you are out of the loop....the state DOES NOT TAKE OVER A SCHOOL after one year of being on the target list....otherwise Livingston Middle School would have already been taken over...so please stop stating FACTS or LACK of FACTS
Citizen Statesman wrote:

Actually Allons will be taken over because they are currently a state Target school which means they did not meet satisfactory scores on Reading, Math, and English in 2011. Given the fact the students have went almost 2 months without a math teacher and the fact they have hired an unqualified english teacher there's a pretty good chance they will be marked for improvement which means the state tells them what to do if they want any extra finding.
That is a fact, jack.

Gainesboro Elementary in Jackson County was taken over last year.

Cookeville Highschool in 2008

Call and ask the schools genius.
And it is not after 1 year in Allons, this will be their second year.

<quoted text>"Citizen" you and your several aliases are definitely someone in the know. Can't believe you gather all this information from the general public. Or could it be that you're a teacher? Inquring minds want to know. If you're a teacher(and I'm pretty sure you are)you are definitely a risk taker by bashing Eldridge & the board like you do.
Sure hope Citizen is not a teacher,if so we are hurting for teachers.

Ding.
I am a teacher.
I'll even narrow it, I'm a teacher in Livingston.
I have watched in the past 2-3 years as this school system has hired idiots and children around me just because they are people kids.

I've heard the lies and I'm sick of it.
