This has all been twisted and strained on both sides to the disgusting arguments you hear today from the very real/practical stance that the government doesn't have the right to play Robin Hood, and a belief in fairness that that stance extends in both directions.

For example, last year the federal government gave out $1.6 billion dollars worth of free cell phones and service.

Republicans, Libertarians, and everybody with brains don't think that it's ok for the government to come into people's houses with guns and take money you worked for to buy poor people cell phones and the like...

If you think that's over dramatic... stop paying your taxes and see what happens.

Democrats use big goverment to bankrupt america while paying for entitlements for illegals, lazyasses, and the uneducated. All to gain the support on voting day. If we only helped the hadicap, wounded veterans, and elderly our taxes would be cut in half and have no national debt.

The middle America is about gone. I worked at Suttons in the 1980's. I also worked at Tricon. All is gone. There are a few factories like this left which helped to give me a chance to make money to get me through Tennessee Tech. If the government doses not have tax from the working class, then who must they get money from then? The rich. Both sides are guilty. We need to look at the problem, not the party.

nothing to gain. They take handouts and use it not to improve their life, but rather on cigs, booze, and pills. Look at the paper of those arrested each week and calculate the precentage which receive goverment help. I bet it is over 75 percent.

They need to drug test people. The argument is that drug testing keeps the kids from receiving the things they need. If their parents are addicts are they getting what they need anyways? When DHS calls to see about the person applying for work they need to ask if they were offered employment and accepted or declined. When I was working in an office all they would ask is if they applied. Most companies can't answer questions that aren't asked. They need to cut off the professional students too.

I agree. The argument about it effecting the children baffles me. If the parents are dopers then why aren't we placing the children anyway?

I don't feel sorry for the poor. With all the oppertuneties in this country, there is no excuse for able bodied people to be poor. At the present time, there are not that many oppertuneties, but there has been for years and years. I was raised poor but I worked hard and did not rely on anyone to keep me up. I am proud to say that everything I have is what I have worked hard for. I am still poor but I don't think I should be called 'scum'.
