at OCNH they start you out at 8.25 for first shift, and one dollar more for second or third. you get a ten cent uniform allowance also.

I, too, work at OCNH. Let me tell you ppl that think it is an uncaring place. YES, there are some who should not be in the profession, there are a few that should be told to go home if all they want to do is socialize, there are those that geniunely care for the residents and wish that there was actually more time to spend with each and every resident and there are those that like to sit by and watch everyone else do the work and then B*tch if something isnt right. I happen to take PRIDE in what I do. I try to make sure that ALL the individuals are taken care of to the best of my ability. NO, I am not perfect, however, I try to make sure that the job is done as perfectly as it can be. When a resident passes, it is very hard to take. When a resident, who doesnt even know you, tells you that they are glad you are here, makes it worth everything. When you have some spare time(which occasionally we do) and hear some of the stories of their lives, it is awesome. For those of you who want to bash OCNH, it isnt perfect, I can understand some of the comments but you know what: I am there for the residents and as long as my job is done the way they think it should be done and the residents are taken care of to the best of my ability, then what more do you people want from us?

People like you is what makes a difference. Keep up the good work and try to turn a deaf ear to the ones that want to bash (I know that's easier said then done).

I think the older generation that's in a nursing home look forward to seeing the workers that are nice to them and has compassion for them, Some sees the workers more then their own family.

I appauld you and people like you. Keep up the good work that you do.

Have a wonderful day.

Wow ... another thread about ocnh and how horrible we are .... i work there and i refuse to let anyone tell me i do not put 100% into my work. Come do my job for a day ... it would probably break you .... the job of a CNA is emotionaly, mentally, and most of all physically hard. We break are backs and our hearts to do what we do.
If your wondering how much they make ... well its probably not the field for you ... you simply cannot do it because of the paycheck ... you will never make it. You have to be willing to just be rewarded in other ways . Happy that you could make the worst of somebodys life a better time for them.
It is so hard going to work each day knowing before you even hit the floor that you have someone critizing everything you do. I have put 9 years into nursing and it is the most rewarding thing i have ever done. Sometimes you are all these people have. I have seen countless residents come in with no family and no friends to come and see them. It is sad but soon you become thier family ... you become the one they rely on.
I cannot belive the judgement that is passed. Of course it only makes me wonder who it is that can say such horrible things about people that work so hard. Probably someone jobless and has nothing better to do than hide behind a computer screen and put down the people who do the hardest job there is. Hats off to you ya lazy POS . Well whatever. I know that I'm someone you can never be. I am someone who makes a differance numerous times a day in numerous peoples lives.

I read it but you know what? I didn't even think anything about it because it was just some idiot saying that and its not true.
I know that the CNA's work there butts off for little pay.

I would like to add a few comments to this post. I am a nursing supervisor in a large clinical practice facility (Dr's offices) and I hire some CNA's to work with providers/laboratory. I would suggest to those of you who like the nursing field but prefer a different environment than a nursing home or home health, check on getting signed up for a phlebotomy class. The umbrella of a physicians office is a lot different than that of a hospital, nursing home etc. in those places you can't give injections, medications etc. but in an office if you have been trained to a specific clinics expectations then you can work their as a primary or even a float nurse. I can also give anyone who is interested information on getting their CMA if you have at least 1 years physician office experience. There is a test that you can take to obtain a CMA/RMA (Certified/Registered Medical Assistant)degree. The difference in starting pay would be approx. 2-4 dollars difference between CNA and CMA.

This is a very hard and thankless job, but a job that very few can do. We have to be born with a special ability, to be able to give of ourselves fully to those in need.
I have been a CNA in upstate N.Y. for over 30 years; at the same nursing home. My wages are almost $12.00 an hour. I work 7 am.- 3pm. shift.
God Bless us CNA's and those of whom we all care for.

I worked at the overton co . nursng home and they started me out at 9.50 a hr. but that is first shift , Second shift was alittle more a hour i believe, 3rd shift was 10.50 atleast thats been a couple years ago..I hope this helps, im a CNA and i agree its not a job that people can just show up and do , your heart has to be in it.. It will depress you or make you mad , these are our parents , grand parents or mom an dad.. They deserve love and respct just like you .. God Bless and people who give not only of themselves but of their hearts are angels on earth...

A few of the CNA"s that work at the nursing home are just there for the paychecK, but however some are not thank the good lord for that. When i worked there our director of nursing was Miss. Jackson that is the nursing home's main trouble she is mean and very rude to the CNA'S and will go off on them in front of a patient or any other person instead of taking you in a office and discussing her problem. The CNA"s do all the work up there well at least when i was there. All the LPN's and RN's and the other nurses done was pass med and go outside and smoke or talk on phone or even a few be hid in a bathroom not doing what you suppose to be doing.I now do home health and I absoutly love it, you are way more appreciated and thanked constantly you know why? because they know how hard the job is. So for all the CNA:s at the nursing home that are still there Thank You and My hat is off to you for being able to put up with JACKSON!!!
