Wow no one would say who the guy was. I wonder why they thought it was a big deal. Did you not think it wouldn't be in the paper?? That was just silly not to tell who it was.
I am still praying for him and his family. It sounds like he's going to have a long recovery.

I heard it was one of the King boys that they have been talking about on here.I also was told his medical records from before the wreck shows he was takeing so many drugs for his medical condtion he shouldnt never been allowed to drive a big piece of equipment like a fire truck or tanker.

A Fairgrounds Volunteer Fire Department firefighter was severely injured when the tanker truck he was driving rolled over in a ditch while en route to a grass fire on West McCormick Road Saturday afternoon, according to reports from other fairgrounds firefighters.

Terry King, 42, of the Okolona community was driving the tanker truck, which Fairgrounds VFD Chief David Burchfield said was a 1987 model, toward a grass fire when the truck overturned.

“He has said via his wife that there was a contributing vehicle in this crash– a small, brown car that was on the wrong side of the road in a curve,” Burchfield said.“Whether THP got that in their report, I don’t know.”

Attempts by Overton County News to obtain a copy of the official crash report from Tennessee Highway Patrol were not fruitful before press time.

Burchfield noted that King had experience driving large trucks and had been a wrecker driver for Langford’s wrecker service at one time before joining Fairgrounds VFD. Burchfield also said the truck probably wasn’t able to travel very fast at the time of the crash.

“That particular tanker is cold-natured anyway, it takes it forever to warm up and run at any kind of speed at all,” he said.“He didn’t have time for it to warm up from our fire hall to the scene of the crash. I’ve driven it all the way to Rickman and not had it warm up enough to run more than 45 miles per hour.

“He’s real responsible. He’s an experienced truck driver and everything,” Burchfield added.

Burchfield said the truck was equipped with seatbelts and that King was wearing his at the time of the crash. Despite that precaution, Burchfield and other firefighters with Faigrounds VFD indicated that King’s injuries were serious enough that he had to be flown to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville for treatment. King reportedly suffered broken ribs, fractured or broken vertebrae, and multiple arm injuries including a break in the bones of the lower forearm/wrist area and a damaged rotator cuff on the right arm.

As of Monday evening, Burchfield, who had been keeping in contact with King and his family since the crash, said,“He is doing better. I’ve been in contact with his wife and everything. She said he was doing better and everything, he was in a lot better sprits today. They had him sitting up in a chair. The prognosis is he will recover, but it’s going to be a long road.”

Burchfield said the tanker truck was a total loss and that he had been working with the fire department’s insurer Monday. He said the truck was valued at approximately $40,000 to $50,000.

As to how the loss of the tanker would affect his department’s ability to respond to fires, Burchfield said the department had another 2,000-gallon tanker. He noted that losing King for a while during his recovery from the crash will “put kind of a bit into things for a while.”

The fire chief and the insurance company need to be told that King was supose to be on pain medication such as oxy cotton and mental meds such as amptripleen all that states do not drive while takeing this medicine.I also heard he had been in a mental hospital several times and had black outs.

I know he was transfered a while back from Livingston jail to a mental hospital. Now if the meds he was on is not disclosed to THP and Ins. is that not fraud on someones part? Also did they do a tox screen on him at time of wreck?

Did anyone but him see the car?Maybe there was not a car he just thought there was, I mean if he had head injury he could not be recalling things clear.

What ins. company covers this fire department does anyone know?If any of this is true then yes questions need to be asked because I looked up some of this medication and the side effects. Now maybe the chief did not know any of this maybe he did but there should be a policy put in place that does not allow someone to drive when takeing medications that effect your ability to react.I am sure the boy was doing what he felt he was supose to do and I wish him well .
no drugs or alchol

One Flown Out After Fire Truck Rolls Over
Wednesday, 06 April 2011 17:25 Ashley Ledbetter, Staff writer .One was flown out after a one-vehicle wreck on West McCormick Road on Saturday night.

Terry W. King, 44, of Livingston, was driving a 1987 International Fire truck for the Fairgrounds Volunteer Fire Department and was traveling west on West McCormick Road with his emergency lights and sirens on. While trying to negotiate a curve he ran off the road on the left side overcorrecting and ran off the right side of the road causing the vehicle to overturn and striking a fence and tree and landing upright.

King was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center via Air Evac. King was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. The truck was not equipped with airbags. There were no signs of drugs or alcohol and there are no charges pending.

Trooper Stanley Roberts investigated the accident. Also responding to the accident were the Overton County Sheriff's Department, Overton County Ambulance Service and several different fire departments.

#19 Apr 6, 2011 people are just making up stuff..You obviously don't know anything about anything. This man (Terry W. King) was not on drugs and was not using any alcohol. That was made clear by the THP. For everyones information you are bashing people who everyday risk their lives to make sure that your home is safe from fire along with showing up to other major events like wrecks. So call who you wanna call...You make no sense...Mind your own business..Go pick on drug addicts.. Your local (volunteer)fire department is serving this county to the best of ability's. Please appologize to the fire cheif for your rude and unthoughtful rambling! Or just keep your mouth shut!!!!!!!!!!
