Sometimes, local churches will help families with this type of need. But in my experience, it's more difficult to find that sort of help in Overton County as it is in Putnam. But it's worth a try!

Go to the big brick church in town, they will help. They also help on utility bills if needed. My neighbor went to them when her husband was in Iraq. they had 5 kids that she had to care for by herself. Also try the Good Samaritan place at the old hospital.

The Good Samaritan has moved
It is at 115 N. Spring
Been there a couple months.
Anyone can shop there, it is set up as a thrift store. And they do have very reasonable prices.

Thank you for clarifying that. I'm glad you told about the move. I would have felt bad to send someone in need to the wrong place. I'm sorry for the faulse instruction, it had been a while since i had been there. My dad work for the Ambulace service and it used to be in the same building as the good samaritans. Me and my brother used to play in there when we were little. We would go back there and fold the clothes up. lol

You are Welcome. I only found out because I went over to the Old Place to drop off some donation's, and they had a sign on the door. I think they should advertise it. Alot of people that I have talked to didn't know they had moved.
If you are in front of the Good Samaritan, you would be looking at the back of the Old Lay Simpson Building.

I don't know if the person who asked this question is still needing help, but if you are please let me know. I can't help with the food but I might could help with some clothes if you tell me if they are for children or adults and what sizes you need.

If you can't afford food and clothing what are you doing paying internet service. Try selling your computer,I am sure you could buy some food to last for a while with the money.

Why is it that everybody want's a handout but don't want to put in any effore to support their self.

There are lots of Churches who help people, but why don't you try attending some and learning a little about the Bible. You might be surprised how much help you would get.

Churches get their monies from their members, I don't know of any Church Member who would not help someone who tried to help their self.

They are not too happy to help people who are on Drugs and stuff like that. And I am not saying you are on Drugs. Just trying to make a point.

I know for a fact that Bobby Gore will help anyone who deserves help. He may not be happy about helping Drug Addits, Alocoholics, Thieves etc. But if you are trying to help your self and are in need he will help. That is why they have a Food Pantry! They also collect clothing for needy people. So don't condem someone if you don't know everthing.

What an Attitude!!! How do you know whose Computer they were on?? Maybe they were at the Library or a Friends House. How do you even know if they do or Don't Attend Church?? They might know the Bible Inside out.
Are you having a Bad Day?? Or are you always this bitter?? I think I would at least want to know this Person's situation before I would Belittle them Like you have.
Maybe you need to Attend Church. And if you do, I hope you are not over the Program that help People, with any of the Donation's!!
I hope you have a Better Day Tomorrow, and try not to be sooooo Negative..........

I am sorry I thought that those whom have lost their way were the ones who really needed our Prayers and our help. I didn't realize that when someone falls that they are no longer worthy of help to try to get back up. Wow, maybe that is why I dont agree with the ways of most of the "fine Christian people" anymore. I am a true believer and know that if we put all our faith in Our Heavenly Father that he will provide and when he said go forth and help thy bretheren, he did not mean but only if they are without sin and you really think they deserve it.

I don't remember reading where this person ever said they needed help. How can you be sure that they were not trying to help someone else and did not know how. My hope for you is that you yourself never need help just to have someone judge you. I will be praying for you.

Well here you dummies go again talking about stuff you don't know about. I go to church there and a couple years ago I was with 3 other guys who took food baskets to several families that was on our list that was given to any member that needing help. One of the places was in the housing project. When we walked in looked like the husband and wife had been fighting. The floor was full of trash and we had to kick it out of the way to get to the kitchen. There was 2 little kids under the age of 3 that almost jump at us when they seen food. The wife was very thankful we came. As we were leaving the husband lit a joint in front of us and told us to have a great day. That made us very mad but nothing we could do. What we did helped that mom and kids and maybe one of these days the husband will come around.

So, outside looking in, no one would have said these were upstanding people and blah blah blah. But someone knew them and there situation and knew they needed some help. We didn't know them. All we had was an address and a name.

I do wish the people that recieved the clothes and food we and other churches distribute would be appreciative enough to come to church and thank the members for helping. It would make everyone do more.
