PUTNAM COUNTY -- Eleven people have been arrested here in the past two days in two major unrelated busts for the manufacture of methamphetamine.

The arrests were made by the Putnam Sheriff's Department and the Algood Police Department.

Late Tuesday night, the Sheriff's Department arrested six persons in connection with an investigation at 199 Huddleston Drive.

On Wednesday, the Algood Police Department arrested five persons in connection with a raid on a residence at 220 Phillips Street in Algood.

In both cases, the officers seized various ingredients and equipment commonly associated with the manufacture of meth.

Arrested by the Putnam Sheriff's Drug Investigation unit in the Huddleston Drive case were the following:

* Mary Ann Wilmoth, 38, of 199 Huddleston Drive, Cookeville, charged with promotion of meth manufacture.

* Lisa Michelle Cowan, 30, of Dixon Lane, Cookeville, charged with promotion of meth manufacture.

* Larry Junior Brown, 35, of Dixon Lane, Cookeville, charged with violation of the Meth Free Tennessee Act.

* Christopher Kevin Padgett, 37, of Edgewood Drive, Cookeville, charged with violation of the Meth Free Tennessee Act.

* Sherry Lynn Wilmoth, 39, of Lee Avenue, Cookeville, charged with violation of the Meth Free Tennessee Act.

* Jackie Curtis Cleghorn, 57, of Brotherton Mountain Road, Cookeville, charged with violation of the Meth Free Tennessee Act.

Arrested yesterday by Algood Police at the Phillips Street residence were the following:

* Terry Glen Looper, 50, of 220 Phillips Street, Algood, charged with manufacture of meth and possession of meth with intent to sell it.

* Kandice Leann Maynard, 29, of Watkins Lane, Allons, TN, charged with manufacture of meth and possession of meth with intent to sell.

* Kenny Dewayne Cooper, 29, of Sandy Road, Wilder, TN, charged with manufacture of meth and possession with intent to sell.

* Ruth Ann Tucker, 31, of Bilbrey Park Drive, Cookeville, charged with manufacture of meth and possession with intent to sell.

* Shaun Patrick Gibson, 28, of 220 Phillips St., Algood, charged with manufacture of meth and possession with intent to sell.

Algood Police Chief Jim Eldridge said the investigation into the case there began months ago and said it was dubbed "Operation Endless Commitment" to show "that we will continue our war on drugs as we strive to make Algood a drug-free place."

Chief Eldridge said the investigation there is still underway and said more arrests are expected. He said Lt. James W. Marquess initiated the investigation and all officers of the department participated in the execution of the search warrant.

He said a search of the house turned up a total of 30 grams of methamphetamine and said other items and ingredients found during the investigation included ephedrine wash, lithium strips, ammonia nitrate, hydrogen peroxide, Drano, test strips, and syringes.

He also said the police officers were aided in the raid by the Algood Fire Department.

Like Chief Eldridge, Putnam Sheriff David Andrews is committed to a war on illegal drugs.

In the Huddleston Drive case, Sheriff's Detective Randy Roland and Deputy Tony Branch, members of the Drug Investigation unit, along with Deputies Steve Elrod and Gabriel Frizzell, as well as U.S. Marshal's Task Force Agent Jeff Phann, went to the location to serve warrants they held on Jackie Cleghorn.

When they arrived at the residence, Larry Brown ran out the back door and fled on foot. As officers chased him, they saw "items known to be used in the manufacture of meth laying in plain view in the back yard," Sheriff Andrews said.

Mary Ann Wilmoth said the residence was hers and she gave consent for a search, the sheriff said.

That search turned up a drain opener, coffee filters, propane containers, hot plates, lithium batteries, and empty blister packs that contained ephedrine, according to Deputy Tony Branch.

Deputy Branch said Cookeville Police Officer Chris Melton and Deputy Bill Buhl brought trained tracking dogs to the scene to locate Larry Brown, and said Algood Police Officer Brandon Bean and Deputy Cpl. Bryan Cook also worked on that effort.

Brown was later located by Deputy Branch, Detective Roland, Detective Shane Higgenbotham, and Agent Phann. The other suspects were arrested at the residence.

All 11 of the suspects have a June 13 court date.

Sad, I don't think so. Nobody made them start taking drugs. What is sad is the children of these people. The Tucker woman I know has four that are being raised by her family. She will not even contribute to their lives, that is the worst crime here.

Making bad decisions isnt a reason 2 withhold compassion. I truly feel for the children involved they are the innocent victims of their parents bad decisions.
