I love trains. Amtrak is my favorite mode of travel.
High-speed rail is an exciting concept, but I voted against it.
1) There has never been a guarantee Merced County will directly benefit from the service.
2) Precise cost of construction escapes me, at the moment, but it is at least $20 billion.
3) Once it is built, it will run at a deficit of approximately $1 billion, minus revenue derived from fares. That's a lot of fare money.
A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon we're talking about a little money.
Any ideas on how to pay for it?
