I was actually in the mall when it happened, although I did not see it for myself. I feel bad for everyone who knew him and is going through a tough time. Objectively, I would say that his way of committing suicide was not just a bad way in terms of other people seeing it, but he could've actually killed someone if he would have landed on someone below, which could've happened. Regardless, it's a horrible situation and I hope if people have suicide thoughts that they go seek help (and friends be there, too). My sympathies.

i agree with you 110%, i am a deperssed individual whois suppose to be on medication and i can't be because i cant afford health insurance and medicaid says i make to much.. so here i am living the hard life because i cant seem to find anyone to help. no one cares about my situation or the fact that i need help, i am sure i havent' looked into all possiblities but i have looked at all the possibilities that have crossed my path so now i am sitting here without medication and trying to live my life and keep my head up high why deal with stress that 95% of people cant put themselves in.

Selfish display? Are you for real. I knew this young man and he was suffering from depression and other mental difficulties. I don't know what he was thinking but someone who wants to end their life is suffering the worst kind of pain you can imagine. SO he was selfish because he disturbed some rich person's shopping spree. Get real!
I feel that he may have put some people in danger by falling on them- but selfish display! I hope the person who said that never has to be depressed to the point where dying seems easier than living.
This was a disturbed young man who had recieved mental health treatment in the past.
Lets talk about how to increase access to the needed mental health services, not how shoddy security in the mall is. That's not the issue people. The issue is that so many people want to kill themselves and the mall is the best place to do it in this city.

I also agree. Some people will never know the true pain of being depressed. They can only focus on shopping in a mall and laughing at others in pain. Mike was a beautiful person and the thought of others being amused at someone's unfortunate illness is disgusting. Maybe some people have just spent their whole lives crying over spilled milk and will never know what true emotional trauma is. Depression can totally consume you and for others to judge without knowing Mike or experiencing his hardships is complete ignorance. Most people just want to dwell on how this has ruined their day of shopping at the mall, instead of realizing that a n amazing life is gone.

so many people are fighting on this thing its stupid dont u think thats just a little childish the dude committed suicide and all you can do is argue about whether he was a good person or not why not say something worthwhile like i give my condolences to family and friends rather than shattering the image of this guys life wow u need lives

i give my condolences to the family and friends
Forgive him

Just a note of sorrow and love to his family and friends.
To those who didn't know him I ask you to forgive this horribly distraught person and say a prayer for his soul.
He was reaching out in dispair when he killed himself. A horrible way to die and a terrible waste. We are the lucky one's that go on.

Wow! I was just catching up on news from Syracuse. Another Carousel suicide? We had some years back as well. I was there. I worked at the mall when I was younger. The security staff is worthless. Maybe these people are getting paid peanuts; but seriously security means secure the area, people and premises. It is not a joke.
My sympathies to anyone who may still be reading this thread and who knew the deceased. Perhaps the only way to get attention was to go to Carousel and display the last act.
To the kid who laughed at the pictures- are you a serial killer because that is not normal behavior and I would seriously have you checked out? It's people such as yourself that should go.

I would just like to say a few brief things on the inncident. I dont understand how the mall security would let this happen and if the man was up on the 6th floor for about 15 minutes saying he was gonna jump then y wouldnt they have back up ready down stairs instead of having an ambulence come about 15 minutes later.
he wasn't telling anyone about it. he sat there reading a book, finished it, and climbed over the barricade. a security guard tried to talk him down, and then he jumped. no one is at fault

Well, if I had been there trust me, I would have hepled him, and those security officers wouldn't have shooed me away. They could have arrested me for all I care. I would never let anyone helpless die in front of me. If I can help someone whether it be a human being or an animal I would do so.
I think that the people taking pictures are more pathetic than anyone. How aweful and cruel.

I think that most of you have some pretty fucked up things to say. Would you all like it if you were to die, and all people were worried about is taking a picture of you or broadcasting you like it is some sort of amusement to the public. No! You are not understanding the idea that Mike was a good person he just had a problem just like EVERYONE else. People need to grow up, and see that other people have feelings.
This is insane
