Do you think this will go over as well as the outlet mall just off 580 and greenville?

I guess with so many name brand stores closing their doors, they need more outlets to dispose of their garbage.

Can you imagine that traffic on the on/off ramp on a Saturday evening? That's going to be a mess. Hopefully Livermore put more thought into this than they normally do with their "projects".

I hope so too. I think this would be a bad idea. Go expand the Tracy outlet mall.

I would love for all of my tax dollars to go to Livermore, but it's not going to happen. Bringing a outlet mall to Livermore is a worse idea than it is a good one.

Why not just use the first set of outlet malls that they built? Besides, most of the high end designers that they're planning on putting into this project are going to be lucky to survive this economic downturn/recession/depression. Again, Livermore is behind the times compared to the rest of the Tri-Valley with their building and planning policies. Ruby Hills, IMAX/Best Buy retail area and sports parks. All great ideas with huge tax implications all passed up by Livermore.

On another note, it's funny to me that the City of Livermore wouldn't allow a church to be built on this property because of firetruck access but they're going to allow a large outlet mall. The mall will have daily use, more people on a daily basis and will creat MUCH more traffic. In all honesty I'm surprised Livermore didn't have more condos built on this site. That seems to be the latest "Big Idea" from our city government.

For the reocrd, I'm a 29 year old Livermore resident who has been in Livermore for 20+ years. I grew up here, went to school here, worked here and now I'm raising a family here. I voice my opinion not to bash our elected officials but to show another opinion that hasn't been listened to by the Livermore City Council in quite some time. It's time for Livermore to quit trying to keep up with the "jones'" and forge a new plan instead of being a little Napa/Pleasanton/Walnut Creek/Hollywood/Anywhere else.

silly people, It won't work! If they were to do it. they should use the existing outlet mall off of greenville, but it is too expensive there. So what are we going to do build another one and hope it is cheaper to rent there? Come on! Move in where it is avalible or don't move in. I personally don't believe we need anykind of outlet mall, but that is me. Unlike "whattt" I don't have to buy Vans and DC... It is a luxury item, go buy 7 dollar walmart shoes or drive the extra distance or pay the extra dollar at the mall for the shoes...

You said "the existing outlet mall off of greenville" What are you talking about??? What outlet mall?

Charley Hustle:
You said "it's funny to me that the City of Livermore wouldn't allow a church to be built on this property" Crosswinds Church IS building there on the parcel previously owned by Childrens Hospital. This is the lot between the golf course and the driving range. They moved to this site so they wouldn't be sandwiched in between retail areas.

They built a bunch of buildings off of Greenville road over 9 or 10 years ago. 1 or 2 companys moved in and quickly moved out. There hasn't been any business over in those buildings for a while. There is a hotel and the harley davidson shop near where they built these, but the motorcycle shop and hotel were built way after the mall failed.

The out let mall never took off. So now instead of trying it again there they are going to build new buildings and try again, I think it is a waste!

I'm not sure if You can call that area an outlet mall. Maybe more of a business park.

Prime outlets Livermore Valley Is going to be large and have a regional draw. Thay aren't using all the parcels there. The remaining adjacent land is zoned retail. Retail begets more retail so this area could turn into a nice shopping area where Livermorons can shop and the city can capture some of the sales tax revenue that's now leaking. Finally some big retail in Livermore! Who wooda thunk?

Prime recently applied to increase the shop area by about 100,000 sq. feet bringing the total to close to about 575,000 sq feet.

Prime Retail typically leases 100% before they open. Here's a link to the 475,000 sq ft concept. http://www.primeretail.com/PrimeRetail/files/...

Ground breaking is scheduled for this spring with completion late 2010.

But you you know how these things can slip. It would actually be complete by now if it weren't for all the law suits.

Also related to this project, they've already started redoing the El Charro interchange and Pleasanton has FINALLY agreed to extend Stoneridge drive into Livermore fom their adjoining Staples Ranch project.

EDITORIAL COMMENT:(Of course whiney Matt Sullivan and his cohorts will probably try to do a referendum to stop the extension).

I still think it is a waste of moeny to try and build this in Livermore... Outlet malls suck... They bring they wrong crowd Livermore wants... We want richy people spending lots of money... not krack heads taking BART here to get a deal on some shoes at an outlet mall... Poor decision by Livermore... =(

The "business park" on Greenville was originally slated as an outlet mall. Sorry to burst your bubble but that's a FACT.

Also, Crosswinds WAS in fact shot down by the City of Livermore with the help of the LPFD. It had nothing to do with being next to the golf course or sandwiched between retail spaces. Now that the outlet mall has approval to build and the upgrades taking place to the area the reasoning behind shutting down the Crosswinds construction is null and void. As part of the agreement the outlet mall will provide access to the Crosswinds location (by providing access to their mall) and therefore the Fire Department doesn't have any further formal complaints.

I never said that Crosswinds wasn't moving forward with construction. I simply said they got shot down originally. Did they or did they not? That's a yes or no answer.

That's not a rumor. That's just simply the facts.

Well no wonder it failed. It looks like a business park! And it's not an "existing" outlet mall. Maybe the location of a past outlet mall.

My understanding was that Crosswinds withdrew their development application and re-appliied to be included as part of the El Charro plan.

The following clip from the Crosswinds web page confirms what I said about being sanwiched between retail.

"The City approved the El Charro Specific Plan, which is the planning document that allows the church project and the other properties on our street to develop. As part of that Plan, the City asked the church to move over two properties to the former dairy property at the end of the road, so that the first four properties on the street could build out as a consistent retail block."

We already have an area for them to place their stores... Off of Greenville. We don't need to build another one...
