If you really want to learn about the homeless in Livermore and who they really are, join the volunteers or guests at Vineyard Christian Fellowship at 460 N. Livermore Avenue any Monday morning or afternoon. In cooperation with Cornerstone Fellowship, on Monday mornings hot showers are offered with the necessary toiletries and clean towels supplied. A clothing closet is available to select a clean outfit as well as sock and underwear. A cooked breakfast is served. This usually takes place between 8 a.m. and noon. At 4:30 a VERY brief (10 minute) Christian service is offered in the Sanctuary at Vineyard and immediately following they serve a multi-course hot meal - often prepared by many of the wonderful caterers that serve at our Livermore Valley wineries. Most Mondays the dinner guests are offered a wide variety of grocery items to take with them for later consumption. It is here that you will learn who in Livermore is truly homeless, and maybe you'll learn WHY they're homeless. You'll also see families who are struggling to make ends meet. Also present are a few 'scammers' who are always bottomfeeding to get something for nothing....among them - the Safeway beggars! See you next Monday for a great meal and broadbased learning experience.

I would love to stand next to " the rock " with a sign that says " Dont feed the bears ". Those bums can sit there for hours a day........more hours than a regular job entails. I will NEVER give a single penny to any homeless bums.........period. And I dont need to meet any of those bums on a personal basis to hear their problems......because I see their drunk asses hanging out on the K St/First St benches all the time.

I'll bet that the homeless bums cant wait for the outlets to open as well........high dollar skins will be dropping in and spending all their investment money there.........they will surely be able to throw a couple hun's at the homeless idiots.

Oh ya........seen the black guy on the median at the N.Livermore on ramp with his sign that said he wants to try and get home.........im going to water balloon his ass next time I see him there.
Peace out

Yea..he says he needs bus fare back to Seattle. He's been asking for close to 2 yrs. I'm sure he's got enough in that time to go back. Why does he keep coming back here? Stay in Seattle.

Someone needs to print out a few of these messages calling out the Safeway beggar scammers & just hand it to them. Maybe if they know we're on to them they'll get outta town (though I doubt it). If I had a working printer I'd be on it believe me.

Save a tree. Don't waste paper and ink over these guys. Especially when we all know it's not going to affect them.

I think these people are running a business. They all figured out its a gold mine but it doesn't work if its always the same person. So they formed a cartel and they mix it up and all share in the profits. Its not a new idea...beggars gangs have been around for hundreds, maybe even thousands, of years.

On a slow day they can clear $180. Normal days can range up to $450+. Oh by the way, did I mention this is all tax free??? Where is the IRS when you need them?

How do you know this? Is this first hand, primary source information?

State your sources please.

They have quite the scam going. It looks like they're quite comfortable sitting on their beach chairs in the adjacent parking lot next to the rock they sit on. One by one they rotate taking turns begging on the rock. I really wish people would stop giving to them. The other day I witnessed one of the women buying a $4.50 latte at Starbucks inside Safeway.

Just stop one day and have a conversation with them like I did. Some of them are quite open and honest about it. I was surprised when two of them declined a day labor job offer I had for them. "it didn't pay enough.". Why do a days work when you can panhandle and people just give away their money? Oh by the way, the gentleman who works the Portola Shopping Center JUST GOT BACK FROM HAWAII ! So if you are curious, get out of your car and strike up a conversation. You will be enlightened.

I've talked to quite a few of the local homeless. But not the ones on that side of town. I've talked to the ones who inhabit the downtown area; Judy, Chris, Ron, Adam, Steve and a few others I can't recall on a first name basis.

I do believe your claim that panhandling can pay well. I just have a hard time believing it pays THAT well. Maybe because I don't want to. I probably don't want to due to the fact that I work my ass off and go to college full time and work 30 hours a week for about $1600 a month.

Well it looks like I will go give my Grease gun a work out the next time I go get gas. Maybe everyone can hand them a paper towel. LOL

It's disturbing to me the fact that when I moved to Livermore 25 years ago, there was maybe 3 homeless here, now that # has ballooned to like 30! It's sad!

About 20 minutes ago I see the lady who often holds the sign outside Safeway. She's walking up K st. towards 1st. The rest of the people at the bench outside Yin Yin engage her. I overhear, to the homeless lady "what are you up to?" She responds, "going to the Alehouse to get some dinner".
What is inherently wrong with this?!!?!!!
if they make enough money to go eat at the Alehouse, they're doing better than me. And that's pathetic!

I remember sitting close to the benches one afternoon drinking coffee, and a guy approached me, asked me if I wanted some weed. I was shocked at how bold he was. I said no, but then he asked me if I was a cop. I said, "why? are you a criminal?"

If they can afford the gas for their SUV they ain't doing too bad. Notice their dress as well: Their "work" clothes can be a bit disheveled, but they have pretty nice clothing when seen out on the town. Enough said, they are true scammers, but let us not forget the true homeless that are out their trying to survive. Most have addiction problems, so throwing money at them often times ends up as cheap booze in a brown bag instead of food. Donations to the shelter ensure your money will be used for food, shelter, clothing, not booze and drugs.

I was in the parking lot downtown between First and Railroad a few months ago when an older man approached us and started offering us some kind of downers after bumming a cigarette. When we said no he just got defensive and said he gets them for free. Hmmmmm
My friend who works in the area says that a few of them that hang around there live in a rusted old van that stays parked in the lot. We were all around 20 so I just hope he has more qualms about giving drugs to anyone younger than us.
