Why, do you want the Safeway spot?

I believe her name is Marie. She is a long time resident of Livermore. My kids played little League with her son. Her X husband was their coach. It's sad to see her begging. Why aren't her kids helping her out?

Don't feel bad, she makes more then minimum wage sitting there. I was waiting for someone at Safeway Gas and watched car after car hand her dollar bills. She had to make 20+ bucks there the half hour i was watching.

They make great $$$ sitting on that rock. They have an RV, ford explorer, Toyota 4-runner and a brand new Nissan suv. It is just crazy how much people give to these beggars they will never go away and will never have to work. The one guys has changed his sign from a vet to a hurricane survivor to an earthquake survivor. Now there is a lady who may or may not speak English who pushes a sign in people's faces in the Safeway parking lot about hungry kids yelling Si Si Si. People need to stop giving them $$$$
so they can move on.

I agree....I have seen her and her husband/boyfriend (the black gentleman that begs there) with several different cars saying they need $ for gas. Why have so many cars if you can't afford to gas them up? I work hard for my money, I won't just hand my $ over. It may sound selfish and I know people are having a hard time with the economy the way that it is, but it is more selfish of them to sit on the rock and beg for your money, that you have worked hard for.
makes you think

Your are correct 100%. We are good people and that is why it makes us feel bad to see people hurt and suffer. BUT these people are not. They are taking advantage of our good sides. How is possible that one family survived the Hurricane & earthquakes. I have also seen him with a sign looking for bus fare back to WA. He has 4 vehicles you would think he could get home by now. I think a reporter from Patch needs to do an undercover report on these people you just might be surprised by the amount of money they really have. We all work hard to earn our money. They sit on a rock and hold a sign. Sad Sad Day.

I heard...and this is only a rumor so am curious if this is true or not that someone followed that woman home one night as she drove one of those cars mentioned and she has a nice home off Vasco Rd. She is not homeless at all but scamming everyone.

I agree that a Patch reporter should follow-up and find out the real story if possible on this woman and her boyfriend/husband.

A year or two ago, KRON did a story on the beggers on the campus of UC Berkeley. The people they interviewed demanded that their faces be blacked out and their voices disguised because they knew the stunts they were pulling would get their asses kicked if anyone knew.

Long story short, the guys they interviewed are making WELL into the six figures (all of course tax free of course). And they flat out admitted that they just play on the ignorance and gullability of the students.

I always tell people, if you want to make a difference, give money to a cause, not a person. How does the expression go? Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

I never give money 'coz you never know what they'll spend that dollar and damned I'll be if my money is spent on drugs. So I always offer them food. And the best way to know a real beggar from a crook is this. A real person in need will NEVER say no to food.

I dont think I saw the KRON story but I did see the story when the reporter went undercover to see how much money he made. It was over $200 in 5 hours. The other thing that happened to me last week was when the guy in front of me slowed down and put his hand out the window and when the dude jumped up to get the money the guy in the truck said "GO GET A FUCKING JOB LIKE THE REST OF US". LOL I dont know about any cars but if you look behind the big sign on the grass you will see the bike they ride up on.

I have seen this gal there for years. Sometimes wearing nice jeans and even nicer tennis shoes that my sons tell me cost a lot. I have a problem with anyone that can sit there and put a hand out for money when that hand can be employed doing a job to EARN their money vs. asking the rest of us to give them the money that we have to go to work each day and earn. I chose to give my donations to Shepards Gate as when someone is really in need, they will seek the assistance of a group such as this and we know they truly need help.

I think you're referring to the woman who used to be there. She is definately a fraud. My husband and I saw her shopping at PW market late at night and we followed her to the parking lot where she loaded her groceries into a brand new car. This new "Homeless" bunch looks like a bunch of bums. They all hang out in the parking lot and take turns sitting on the rock collecting handouts. I think they live in the woods along the freeway behind Walmart. The police raided that area about 1 yr ago and estimated up to 20 people living there. I think they're all back there.
