Pee all over the rock and drop a few stink bombs. These lazy slobs can afford smokes, they can afford bus fare around town to job hunt.

If they really are collecting and toting around rocks, it sounds like they are sadly mentally ill. :(

Don't get lazy con artists confused with people who have valid mental illnesses. These two are just too damn lazy to put in a solid days work.

And you're the doctor? I'm just saying, if the rock statement is true, it seems like very strange behavior for even your average con-artist.

I believe that at least 50-75% of the homeless population have some kind of mental disabibity. Some seek treatment but most don't. It's kinda sad.

I think the couple with the rocks are just plain old lazy and figure why go out and get a job that they have to be responsible about when they can just sit there and hope people feel sorry enough for them and give them money for their "homeless family". It seems like they try to make it sound like they have small children but they don't.

I spoke to an Alameda Deputy Sheriff about these two and that spot in general. The departments are all aware of them , but it is private property and it is in Safeway's hands. The officer said that several attempts have been made to get Safeway to act, but, as you can see, they simply don't address it.
I can't imagine their inaction is not a calculated decision; I wonder what their thinking behind the issue is. I can only come up with this: They will avoid any public interaction as a business until it directly affects their business monetarily. I would be surprised if this logic has not been used many, many times in many many areas of varying economic standings. As lovely as our town is it is still a matter of money. This is quite unfortunate because I want to view the local supermarket as a "member" of the community, but their indifference has shown true colors.
If we care enough we could pretty easily mount a boycott of Safeway and just use another grocery store until they get the idea. Wal-Mart, Target, Trader Joe's, Nob Hill, Luckys, etc. It'd actually be interesting to see how quickly they would react and if the effect would provoke the "eviction" of squatters at other locations in general. Obviously stop giving these jerks your money as well haha. Especially that fellow with the bright idea of being homeless and smug in Canada... wtf?

I wonder what the chances are of Safeway actually taking any interest in this issue? I also wonder how many residents would boycott Safeway?

Really depends on how it's addressed on our end. I imagine you would see pretty quick results if somebody were to stand next to these people with a sign emblazoned with blown up photos of these mooches getting into their numerous vehicles and a caption saying something to the effect of "Use another store until this one does something about these mooches." Perhaps include simple directions to Lucky's or Target. Who has time to do that though? We could hire another bum haha!

I don't know about anyone else but I have seen the same 2 people sitting on the rock at the exit/enterance to Safeway/Lowes parking lot now for as long as 12-14 months! I often see them talkingn a cell phone holding a sign that says "homeless family" The man is black and the woman is blonde and heavy. I did some investigating and found out that they stay at Springtown Inn and that their family consists of the two of them and a 20 year old daughter that works 2 jobs to support her lowlife parents. They also have an 18 year old daughter that wants nothing to do with them and lives with friends. They are both capable of holding down jobs but simply don't want to earn an honest living. They collect rocks and insist that these rocks are valuable and try and peddle them around town insisting someday it will make them rich! They strongly discourage other homeless people from sitting on the rock and act as if they own it. I hope that people stop giving them money and see them for who they really are, scammers! Don't get me wrong, I believe in helping those that help themselves and I do many things within our community to help those less fortunate. Please stop wasting your hard earned money on these thieves and find a local charity to donate to instead.
Nancy and Keith are their names. The daughter is Stephanie, and is quite an accomplished musician supporting her lazy mother and her step father.

Both have repeatedly been offered work. "It doesn't fit our lifestyle" was the response.

I am posting as someone who knows them quite well. I, myself, am homeless and I am also employed full time. I have no respect for them at all.

Know this: every time you give money to a "homeless person" holding a sign, you're inviting the worst of the worst into our valley. Many are not even homeless. STOP IT!

Maybe someone should go and stand in front of the rock with a sign that says something like "donate here to local charities that help low income and homeless" or give them a list of organizations that they can contribute to and get the write off instead of just handing over cash to a random person.
Would love to see that! Giving the information to anyone sitting there is futile.

Keith and Nancy will NOT come to the Homeless refuge because the volunteers will NOT provide them with a private room! Last year, Keith and Nancy LIED about Stephanie's age, telling them she was only 17 so that they would get a private room... when that fell through, they stopped coming.

Open Heart Kitchen, livermorehomelessrefuge.org both could use financial help. Giving to the lazy, greedy types on "The Rock" might give one instant gratification, but, as I said before, you're inviting the worst of the worst into our valley.

I would shop somewhere else, in fact I do for that reason..if something was organized to show how allowing the rock sitters would hurt Safeway I would help out, bringing Safeway management letters or I'm not sure what else (now you see why I say help as I don't have any good ideas..) I overheard an arrogant conversation the two sitters were having and that is why I left.. Other stores are not far..

They are not homeless. They live in the Springtown Motel. I see them returning to the motel every night after a hard day's begging, with a large paper bag full of food and drinks purchased from the 7-11.

There is also a man who stands by Starbucks with a bandage over his nose. It almost looks as I'd if he no longer has a nose.

It doesn't really matter to anyone else but me. You can keep giving to these scammers if you want. Just be aware that you are encouraging their behavior. After being told numerous times in this forum that these two are just scamming, you still continue to give them money. What a sucker you are.
