I don't know about anyone else but I have seen the same 2 people sitting on the rock at the exit/enterance to Safeway/Lowes parking lot now for as long as 12-14 months! I often see them talkingn a cell phone holding a sign that says "homeless family" The man is black and the woman is blonde and heavy. I did some investigating and found out that they stay at Springtown Inn and that their family consists of the two of them and a 20 year old daughter that works 2 jobs to support her lowlife parents. They also have an 18 year old daughter that wants nothing to do with them and lives with friends. They are both capable of holding down jobs but simply don't want to earn an honest living. They collect rocks and insist that these rocks are valuable and try and peddle them around town insisting someday it will make them rich! They strongly discourage other homeless people from sitting on the rock and act as if they own it. I hope that people stop giving them money and see them for who they really are, scammers! Don't get me wrong, I believe in helping those that help themselves and I do many things within our community to help those less fortunate. Please stop wasting your hard earned money on these thieves and find a local charity to donate to instead.

Yep, I see them all the time. They can't afford a place to live, but can afford the luxury of smoking? Wow, cigarettes are expensive. If I was begging for money, I would not let people see that I smoke and have that expensive habit. I won't give those 2 anything. Why should I work my butt off to help people that don't even try?

There used to be a giant thread about this. I think it was around 40 pages about how much they make and their house, multiple cars, and whatnot. This is a long debated issue. Maybe you should try to track down that thread if you are interested in it.

Bart brought the city to the suburbs,I saw a beggar at In and Out Hopyard, I told the manager, and he had the PD remove them. I work with a local/global organization to help people in need. If you give a man a fish,it will become a habit, But if you teach him to fish, he can feed others. Begging is not an American trade. END the lifestyle of welfare that Roosevelt started after WW2, This is supposed to be a short time assistance, not a lifestyle.

Thanks Nicole. I will look back in the archives and see if I can find it.

They also own a nice SUV, and the female certainly doesn't look like she's missed a meal recently.

Yes I recall the thread too. Homeless or not, the woman has been seen going into the Alehouse to buy her dinner and both of them are frequently drinking from Starbucks cups. My family is on a budget and we don't eat out often and I rarely go to Starbucks. I keep my change in my pocket as I drive past these beggars who seem to collect their income tax free and have more budgeted income for these treats. I am curious how much they collect in a given day or week, then add that up over 12-24 months and you would think that they could save up for a deposit on a nice apartment.

If they make the same money as the alcoholic sign holders in Castro Valley, whom I've spoken with, then they can average $80 -$140 per day tax free each.

I really wish someone would put an end to this. It's not as of Livermore doesn't have palces that offer meals to homeless and there are shelters too.
Safeway/Lowes should remove the rock and in its place put something that makes sitting or standing there impossible. Some nice spikes cactus perhaps, or dense thorny rose bushes.

And the people that hang out at the Target exit asking for money for something or another...what is the deal with that? Makes me not want to shop there. Why does target allow people to setup tv trays, display poorly printed signs and harass thier shoppers? Makes me wonder what Target means by the "Distraction Free shopping..." sign printed on thier door. I interpret it to mean they don't allow it, but clearly they do.

We will keep talking about this until the rock from Safeway/Lowes is removed. A few more posts like this will put a dent in their donation cups. Then, one of them will pop open their MacAir pose as a humanitarian and attempt to discredit anyone saying they're patrons of Starbucks regardless how many witnesses seen them clutching their cups.

The Target exits were a nuisance and did drive me back to Wal-Mart. With the recent incident there, I'm going to grip my money tighter just as tight as the couple on the rock with their cappuccinos, triple espresso.

Ok, so how do we start the ball rolling on getting rid of the rock? Any ideas?

You mean the rock rolling out of the shopping lot ;)(just kidding)

One thing just struck me. Right where they sit there's a sign that says "Lowe's customer parking only, others will be towed". So how come their suv or trailer hasn't been towed?(assumption here)

I haven't personally complained but am wondering if complaining to the store management would help getting the ball rolling. Like it got the vet selling dvd's on first street moving, maybe the cops will listen to Target, Lowes and Safeway. Just a thought.

I meant the recent incident at Target, and the two men aggressively selling a paper bag at threat of gunpoint. The Target customer was with his child a the time.

If we're at the point where not giving money to Livermore beggars means threat of death in presence of our own children, its time for sweeping changes. Getting my money isn't happening.

oh, ya I read about that. Just awful. I head that there was a brawl a few weeks back in Walmart garden area and thought you might be talking anout that. Do not know if it is true. It is just getting crazy.

Maybe someone should go and stand in front of the rock with a sign that says something like "donate here to local charities that help low income and homeless" or give them a list of organizations that they can contribute to and get the write off instead of just handing over cash to a random person.

The couple that usually sit there did lose their suv, guess they weren't making payments with all that money they collected.

I'm going to call the city and see how I can go about getting things changed so that we can have hassle free shopping in our own city!

Is there no law or ordinance against sitting in a road median?

Since they have been sitting there for over a year and several times I have seen a cop car passing by there, and they continue to sit there...I am guessing they aren't breaking any law.

I don't think the cops can do anything unless a business or people complain.

There is no law against pan handeling unless it becomes aggressive. I went to a meeting last spring that the City had on how to deal with the homeless population and the Police Chief said that it is perfectly legal for them to sit on that rock and beg for money.
