Here is an article posted on Livermore Patch, much better news site than this place, but very grateful someone is reporting local news. I am so happy LPD is spending time comming down hard on arresting a kid with .31 grams of Mary Jane. I think .31 grams of MJ is about 1 joint. I wonder if they got every law enforcement agency involved in this one, measuring .31 grams. Congrats on the major bust thwarting a .31 gram drug deal Narc !!! LOL.

..........

About noon, police dispatch received a call from a man having lunch at Carnegie Park. He reported overhearing a group of teens discussing drug sales.

Police responded to the scene and contacted two teen boys.

A 16-year-old boy was found to be in possession of 0.31 grams of marijuana. He was cited and released to his guardian, Rebiejo said.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on an outstanding warrant. He was taken to the Alameda County Juvenile Hall in San Leandro.

Rebiejo said the suspected drug deal likely would have gone unnoticed if it weren't for the resident calling police.

"Community members can help be the eyes and ears for us," she said. "If you have a funny feeling about something, you should call us. We’ll get out there and we’ll see what’s going on."

Waste of resources.

Legalize weed - its not a dangerous drug. At least no more so than booze or cigs are.

What a waste of resources.

And this kid will have POSSESSION stamped on his record for having barely enough weed for one small joint.

For those of you who think pot is no big deal I would like for you to consider that it is a known trigger for temporary and even long term psychosis. It's more common than most people think and the worst part is that there is no way to tell if you are at risk for this trait until it's too late. Some people may be able to tolerate pot with no problem but some fraction of unfortunate people (one in 50?) face a horrifying risk when using this drug. Instead of the simple high, relaxation, or pain relief that most will experience, they are ushered into a world that is an unpredictable and sometimes endless nightmare. The Brit's have studied this at length and are not so 'Californicated' that they are busy trying to find ways to justify it's use. They have studied it carefully, and objectively and have found it to be far more dangerous than most in the U.S. would like to believe. Here in CA we are considering it as a solution to our lack of tax revenue. The only way this can work is to legalize it, and then let the ones who lose the 'pot psychosis lottery' fend for themselves on the streets. That would work here because most folks in CA don't care about the homeless anyway, so all of the poor new souls that would end up homeless would cost nothing to care for - problem solved...

If you don't think that pot can and does induce psychosis then check out the following website from a mental health website in Ireland. Then google all of the rest...

Good luck and have fun. I have to go take care of my son now. He's in his mid 20's and is still trying to recover from the hospitalizations and the homelessness that he suffered after his 'friends' turned him on to pot.

FYI - we lost him for a long time and then it was the police who noticed him in a park, took him for a burger and convinced him to call home. They gave us their personal phone numbers, they called us to see how he was doing - they cared! I am pretty sure that they care about every kid with .31 oz of pot. More importantly, I know they care about all of the kids that don't even know that they are playing the pot psychosis lottery when they buy that .31 oz of weed. None of his former drug dealers has reached out to help ... Just sayin'

The science on this is far from settled and there is no proof that cannabis caused psychosis. Only that there is a correlation. It does not prove causation.

NAMI Dad, I hope you'll make sure that your son is receiving continuous mental health care. If you do some more research on these drug-induced psychotic episodes I think you will agree that it is quite disturbing in that there is no way to verify the patients didn't have the condition prior to the drug use. It could well be the case that cannabis use is merely a trigger of a pre-existing condition. And you will want to make sure that even if he's not using, that you are doing the due diligence to ensure there is not an underlying problem.

Maybe I just lost the lottery but, I smoked a lot of weed in my teens and am just fine.
