I had nothing to do last Saturday so decided to just start driving and see what might inspire me to write about. I made a trip to Live Oak and was going down Helvenston St and saw where someone was selling seafood from Cedar Key so I stopped. Was nice that it was being held next to a bar that was also grilling some oysters so you could have a beer and eat oysters. I met lots of wonderful people and this wonderful adorable couple by the name of B & S Helvenston which I thought was ironic being as how we were on Helvenston street. We had a long conversation and with my long term memory still not all back from my accident they reminded me of certain events long ago. I told them the past was the past and was glad to meet them. They seem to be the perfect couple and very happy with each other. After my stop there I ventured around the rest of the county and love all the woods they have there. Gainesville is so concrete that this was a great adventure for me to go down these country roads and visit the famous Suwannee Springs which was right across the road from the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park which is also wonderful since they let me go in free to look around. When I get ready to retire I might just locate there.

Very good. Maybe the crazies will stay out of this one.

On my adventures I discovered that there is this group trying to save the Suwannee Springs.

I also understand that Live Oak does a Christmas on the square. Does anyone know when this is? I would love to go.

Nothing like a beer and oysters. Raw, grilled or fried you can't beat fresh ones.

I am so glad that someone has posted good remarks about Live Oak. I moved here from Tampa in August and I have not had an opportunity to get out much and look around. The oyster bar and a cold beer sounds good. I'll have to try it one evening. Thank you so much for your post and please continue.
And hopefully the nastiness of other posters will not find their way here.

It's not an oyster bar. They do oysters for their customers when they are available but the Crab Shack has them I think. Although I only eat oysters in the months with an R in it.

Thank you for clearing that up for me. My wife and I just moved here from the Tampa area and we have yet to find everything. I know it's a small town but we live about 17 miles outside of town and don't make trips but maybe once a week to Lowe's Wal-Mart or Winn-Dixie. But we'll get there eventually. Thanks again.

Does anyone know when KFC will re-open? I see there is a sign out front scheduling interviews for staff.
Also, has Cowboys Barbeque closed? We wanted to give them a try but have not found them open when we have been by there during the last two weeks.

Cowboys is closed but someone else is supposed to open it back up as something else and I think KFC will open soon.

The Red Barn will also reopen soon. They are going to try to get a liquor license.

Stodimires has opened Cowboys. They had a restaurant out on 49. I hope they make it but the overhead is real high where they just opened.

My wife and I will need to try these places. Some of the other places we have visited the service was not what I would call up to par. But we will give these a try.....Thanks

It's official! Suwannee County is a WET County. Today marked the 90th day following the certification of the election by the Suwannee County Commission. Folks had until today at 5pm to contest the election. The Clerk and the Chairman of the County Commission will sign a letter to be sent to the Dept of Business and Professional Regulation indicating no suit was filed by today. Once this is received, then licensing for restaurants, clubs, etc., may begin. The quota license application period will be announced at a later date.

Maybe we will get some decent places to eat in here now.

I hope so plus the extra base that the county is going to receive will be welcomed as well. Now lets hope for a nice restaurant where we can get a drink if that is what we are looking for. I voted wet simply for the tax base and so people could have a choice. I don't drink and haven't in over 25 years. I just don't feel that it's the governments place to regulate me and further! I would welcome the opportunity, should I change my mind, for nice beer.

Either way we win. Hopefully it will put more tax money in the counties coffers and help keep other taxes from going up.
