BBB of North Alabama Warns of Vishing Calls

WHNT News 19 is taking action to protect you from people who manipulate modern technology to scam you.

I had a call about lowering my credit card interest rate.since I pay off my card when it comes in I hung up the phone.

This past Wed, I got a call from an automated system saying my credit card had qualified for a lower interest rate and to please hold the line while my call is connected to discuss lowering my rate. I hung up.

Sometimes these "crooks" say that your warranty
is about to expire on your car. That's what they told me( strange I don't own a car - only pickup
trucks) and when I asked what vehicle they were
at a loss to describe this "car". Same situation
with credit cards....Just ask them which one --
and if they can't identify it then that's a SURE
give-away that this call is likely to be a SCAM

It's become increasingly hard to do anything in this country anymore and better oneself with all the "scam artists" who have made it their profession to rip people off and never have to labor a day in their lives to do so. So many people have become disgruntled in this world that they fall prey to envy, selfishness, greed, covetousness, and the like to increase their personal gain while others suffer at their own expense. And it doesn't matter what kind of technology comes around because a scam artist will always find a way around it.

You can pass all the laws you want, but a criminal does not care about the law and will do anything and everything within his or her power to gain from others what they "think" they deserve without actually having to labor for it.

it doesnt take a phone call to ripped off. due to an accident i had to go on disability so i have to pay 300 dollars for cobra insurance each month. i know people that have never worked, and doctor and medicine is only a few bucks for them so as far as phone scams go HANG THE PHONE UP dont't give information use your head

Actually I tend to have fun with all telemarketers whether they are legit or not. I dance 'em around a bit, ask the same question multiple times, make them repeat what they said in their earlier script, etc. Usually it ends when they hang up on me.
The other option is to keep a ref's whistle next to phone and use it. Make sure you have the phone away from your ear first.(LOL).
