Just in case anyone's wondering: Littleton Library now has downloadable books. You can download them to your ipod. Are you wondering why they haven't bothered to tell anyone about this? Or put any article in the newspaper? BECAUSE THE HEAD LIBRARIAN THINKS SHE OWNS THE LIBRARY!!! NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT HER EXPRESS APPROVAL.

Libraries are partly funded by how many books are checked out in a year. Telling someone verbatim that you don't have downloadable books because "Littleton doesn't get large money donations from rich people like Sugar Hill and Franconia does, so we can't afford it!" is a crock of crap. Maybe Littleton WOULD get donations if the person running the library would pull the stick out of her ass! It doesn't help matters any either that several of the board members for the library are like probably 80-something and have no idea about technology. I seriously have my doubts that they even know how to check email.

So now that the library FINALLY has these downloadable books, you'd think they'd jump at the chance to advertise them. Nope. I still can't even find a real WEBSITE for the library. Just some dinky piece of trash someone that didn't know what they were doing posted in connection with www.golittleton.org Really? There's not even a good photo on there!! Come on, you can do better than that if you really try! The problem is, SHE DOESN'T HAVE THE CITIZEN'S BEST INTEREST AT HEART. SHE ONLY CARES FOR HERSELF AND THE NOTARIETY THE POSITION GIVES HER.

My town had one of these uppity librarians. Enough people complained to the Board of Trustees and they finally got rid of her! The difference was like night and day after that. We wished we'd done it sooner.

Here's the REAL link to the library's new site.

http://littletonpubliclibrary.org/index.php

I had a hard time finding it! It doesn't come up very well in the search engines.

I agree Jean can be a total b*tch sometimes about stupid things. Like picking up a book for someone that can't get in before they close every night of the week due to their working schedule, etc. Wouldn't they rather have a family member pick the book up and give it to the person rather than leave it on hold for another 5 days?! You don't build good customer relations by being snotty about it. If I was unable to get in due to being sick, late schedule, whatever I would be GLAD for someone to pick it up for me. Especially if I was in hospital!

So, a download is not a checkout? But if I check out a book, scan it and return the book, why does that count as a checkout?

These technicalities are always a BITCH!

I don't know if it counts as a "checkout". It must. Your account has to be in good standing to get a downloadable book. Either way, the point seems to be that the library should act like they care more, advertise new items like that in the paper where it will have some immediate notice and interest for people. When were people supposed to find out about it?! Its always irritating when you have a public service run by someone who thinks they own it and nobody else's ideas or opinions matter. Like right now I can't even check out a book for someone else using their account. There are a LOT of people that go into the hospital for surgery, are stuck home recuperating that can't drive, can't drive for a variety of reasons, or don't even have a car that would appreciate very much if someone else was able to check out a book for them on their own account. They may have a library card, just not any way to get the books. Its stupid to penalize these people and say "Well you can't take out books!" That's why the library doesn't have as much funding as it probably could and makes people want to slap her!

Honestly "Shandi" the library only has those kinds of problems, and these vocal complaints from negroes. Its not your fault you do these things. Lots of other races have bo fines when they go to the hospital.

I'm not black. I'm WHITE. I like how you made the assumption that you knew my race from reading something on the internet. That's really brilliant of you. I bet your IQ is about 70.

I don't know what the librarians big issue is to be honest. By not letting people check books out for relatives that are laid up or can't make it before closing time, its not cool. You can't tell me there isn't some way to put pass-phrases on people's accounts to get around any so-called privacy issues. If any person that checks out a book has the pass-phrase on the account, that should automatically authorize them to check the book out. That way whether or not you're taking a book out for yourself on your own account, or taking it out for someone else on THEIR account, the fact that you know the pass-phrase to begin with means you have authorization to do so. It's an extremely simple solution.

WTF is wrong with you Stanhope? All people pay the same taxes. Property tax depends on the property of course. But other than that: federal, town, school and other types of taxes would be calculated the same no matter if you're white, black, red or purple.

Besides that, this topic is not about TAXES. It's about the LIBRARY. So you can either get with the program, or get off the discussion!:-)

The fact that Littleton Library has downloadable books is the top item in the news section of the library Website. If you go to GoLittleton.com (not .org, as you wrote), the link is right there. Oh, and Littleton Public Library comes up on the first page of the Google search. Sounds like there's another agenda here.

Such as?

golittleton.com links to a bunch of different sites. I dont know about you, but when I search for something specific, I'd like the website I'm looking for to come up on its own at the TOP of the search. Not have to click through one page just to get to another. That's actually kind of dumb. One would think that a web search would come up with the most accurate information being displayed at the top of the list. That's just my logic.
