Fairpoint has not done a lot of things. They still have messed up billing. Some people have not gotten bills for months, while others are seeing charges on their bills for stuff like 3 way calling, number screening, etc that were not on previous bills and were NOT requested to be put on their bills. Not only that, but if you have had a password on your account with Verizon right along, all of a sudden when you call they are NOT asking for it claiming when they made the switch from Verizon over a YEAR ago that their system got changed. The system didn't change itself. Fairpoint changed it and that is one of the reasons they continue to come under fire. I've constantly had to sit on top of my bills and go over it with a fine toothed comb to make sure I don't get billed for things that were never on any other bills. I have to constantly make sure they ask me for my account password and am forced to tell them when I call "I have a password on my account, you may want to try asking me for it." Then they miraculously find it. I just barely after 16 months of calling them over and over got my staticy disconnecting-every-time-it-ra ins phone service fixed. Whenever I called they would NOT tell me about the maintenance plan for $5\month that covers any inside wire jobs, instead I was told if they came out and looked at it and there was nothing wrong with the outside they would bill me $100+ for coming out! I did finally get it resolved only after writing a letter to their Charlotte NC office detailing things that were discussed every time I would call and complain about it and requested a healthy refund check (which they finally agreed to provide) for my wasted time, aggravation and the fact that I was either 1: flat out lied to, or 2: given incorrect info repeatedly by fairpoint reps.
You want to know what the problem was? The problem was NOT my inside wire, it was that they had to move a connection or adjust something in their office to get a better connection! A very simple fix! The one thing I still do not buy that they keep telling me is about the 3 way calling. It has only recently started appearing on my bills. It used to be a subscription only service that was the ONLY way you could get your phone to make 3 way calls. Now they claim that if you are talking to one person and you hang up and try to dial another person too quickly that it will consider it a 3 way call (even if all 3 people are NOT on the phone at the same time) and this will automatically appear on your phone bill which you will be forced to pay for unless you put a special block on the phone so it can not happen. I absolutely do NOT buy that!
So I suggest if you have any problems with them to write a letter to their headquarters and request that the issue be fixed ASAP. They CAN do it. And if you get reps or people that don't act like they know what they're doing, request a refund check! Their headquarters address is:
521 East Morehead St.#250
Charlotte, NC 28202
