Please do not let time warner technicians tell you you need to install 3 prong outlets in your house! They tried to tell me that and when we hired a licensed electrician to install a new outlet for an a/c unit he said that was NOT the reason the cable internet works intermittently. The problem is on Time Warners end! Time Warners techs told us they're not electricians so legally they should not be telling us to have expensive electrical work done. And they can not refuse to provide us service. If anyone else out there has had this problem with cable service please realize that if you have 2 prong outlets then so does the power supply that goes to the modem that they provided! If they wanted it to be grounded then they needed to supply customers with ones that have 3 prongs ! Don't let them bully you into paying an electrician for something that is a technical glitch on their end. They also have had 3 widespread outages in the Littleton area in the last 3 weeks!

Our house has 2 prong outlets and we never had a problem either until just recently! Shauna you're correct. If Time Warner wants the equipment grounded why does their modem's power supply only have a 2 prong plug? I never received any paperwork from Time Warner on any so-called "Service Requirements" stating that my house must have 3 prong outlets for them to provide me with service when I signed up four years ago. So why is this an issue now? And why did my service work perfectly for years and then screw up only this year? Having technicians that are not specifically "electrical" technicians come to a residence and insist that expensive electrical work (to re-wire 3 prong plugs)*must* be performed for cable internet to work correctly is stepping outside their bounds. The equipment IS grounded in the sense that the coaxle cable that connects from the pole to the house to the modem IS grounded. Legally Time Warner does have to ground the pole. So, dear Time Warner, I will NOT be spending money to install 3 prong outlets in my entire house.:-)

Time Warner techs are not licensed electricians so they legally should not be telling people to have electrical work done. If anyone has already listened to them and paid an electrician due to this such stupidity, I would LOVE to get on board with the class action lawsuit. They came to my house for the same reason but told us they wouldn't disconnect our service because they still wanted our money! We told them under no circumstances would we be installing 3 prong outlets to satisfy the fact that they couldn't find the REAL problem and that they better not EVER suggest to us that we needed expensive electrical work again. If they don't fix the problem and want our money that badly they can provide the service at half-price because it only works half of the time.

Techs have come out to my house 9 times and it took them 8 times before they just happened to notice our house has 2 prong outlets. Time Warner insists that these technicians are trained very well but has agreed to compensate us for 3 months at zero balance since they have still not been able to solve the problems. They told us we needed electrical work to which we refuse to do. If anyone knows of a class action suit I can sign in regards to this matter, please tell me. I will sign it! Time Warner should not get away with this. They are running a scam by making people think they need to spend more money.

I've been in my apartment for 5 years and had cable internet for 4 years here. Time Warner came to my apt 5 times and then told us we needed to have all 3 prong outlets put in. If we did not install the outlets then they had a right to disconnect the service but because we're good customers who pay our bills on time etc that they would not disconnect it. Then they offered us the next speed level above what we had. When we asked if they were going to provide it for the same price as what we're currently paying since they have not fixed the problem they told us "No, you would need to pay X amount if you want it." Really??? Brilliant display of customer service. Nice IQ levels if it takes 3 technicians 5 trips before they notice the house has 2 prong outlets too. LOL So this begs the question: Why is the outlets not the FIRST thing that they look at? Oh, that's right. They're not trained electricians. I forgot, my bad. Anyways, I have 4 months full credit on my account and will be fighting with them for further credits if they don't fix it soon. I am NOT hiring an electrician do any work in this house. My cable has worked fine until a few months ago when it started being intermittent. Another poster was right. Legally Time Warners POLE is grounded, so why are they b#tching that we need to ground our OUTLET?! Sign me up for the class action suit now....I will gladly sign it.

If my cable feed comes through a coaxle cable directly connected from a grounded pole straight to the modem to my computer, then why do I have to have a 3 prong grounded outlet???? If they want the power supply to be grounded then they need to give me one with a 3 prong plug 7 years ago when I signed up for my service. I hope I dont have any technical problems with this service.I deal with it the old fashioned new england way. aka Shotgun. I'm issuing this wise suggestion in advance so they can save themselves the trouble of bothering with their ignorance. Yes, I said IGNORANCE. I do agree that someone should have the right to sue and win if a company that knows next to nothing with no electrical license is trying to get people to do expensive electrical work they don't need.

Our family lives 8 months in New York and 4 months in England, so when we are Stateside we have Time Warner for our service. I must admit they certainly are not the sharpest pencil in the box. We've had similarly confusing statements made to us when having our service looked at if something wasn't working properly. We have just ignored anything they've said that doesn't make sense and later called the main office to complain. Usually that corrects it and if we have to climb the ladder higher with our complaint, we do. Very maddening, I know. If enough people complain frequently then I would hope they would eventually train their technicians better.

Time Warner is not the best company. I have dealt with them many times and escalated complaints only to have someone higher up call and leave me a confusing and very confidence lacking message that has next to nothing to do with what i had been discussing with them for WEEKS. They are not the brightest company.

Yes, Tim. Turns out our next-door neighbors connection was having issues. They are connected to the same pole and it was back-washing into my connection making it not work. :-) I am waiting for the day a class action suit comes around if their technicians keep doing this to people and making them believe they need electrical work.
