Shaw's is such a rip-off. I wish Littleton would get a Hannafords or Market Basket soon! I'm sick of paying these high prices forever and its a hassle to drive all the way to Super Walmart or Price Chopper in the winter in below zero weather to try and shop. Town officials should be made to allow another grocery store to come here. Hasn't anyone else every wondered why we don't have a Market Basket when our town keeps growing by leaps and bounds? We definitely have the population demand from Easton, Sugar Hill, Bethlehem, Franconia, Littleton and Whitefield combined to support another large grocery store. This community needs to wake up and take action, otherwise we'll be stuck paying Shaw's rip-off pricing like we've been doing for the last 10+ years since Butson's closed!

I know. I hate shopping there too. Unfortunately we will probably get a Market Basket when hell freezes over. The town seems like they're doing everything they can to stop another store from coming. It doesn't seem right since we DO have enough population to support it. You're right about that. There's more than enough people that would shop there if we had another store.

My wife and I will never shop at shaws. We acatually drive all the way down to tilton nh and go to market basket. Realestate taxes keep going up which is one of the reasons why so many homes are up for sale in littleton. Why dont the town raise taxes on home depot, lowes and other companys. Also raise the motel tax...do something!

Justin, you're right about the taxes and everything. But the question is, why do we keep getting more and more stuff like Lowes, Home Depot, Applebees, 99, Hampton Inn and everything else but NOT a competitive grocery store???!!! I seriously think the town either made arrangements not to allow it, or they're not pushing for it and the residents\taxpayers are paying the price for it now with no other options. Shaws wants to be a monopoly just like Fairpoint does. Even when it was Verizon, I wondered why no other phone company came in here to compete. Fairpoint is one of my other gripes and THAT is so bad I've gone to VOIP phone service to get away from them! LOL Now I get 25 features included in the phone plan for FREE. Shaws and Fairpoint are both horrid, I'm just wondering how long it will take before both of them end up paying the price. I think Fairpoint will beat Shaws on that though from the looks of it.

The combined population of Littleton and all surrounding towns is like 31,000! Its totally screwed up that Littleton town managers cant see that we NEED a new grocery store!!! We don't want the Co-op cause its not cheaper, we NEED a real competitive store like Market Basket or Hannafords or something else. Super Walmart. Maybe we should do away with the small walmart here and put in a Super Walmart and keep it in Littleton. It would not hurt any business at all, only the ones that weren't being competitive in the first place.:-)

Well... once again the Shaws in Bangor Maine as rolled me. I get home look at the receipt and find they charged me TWICE for 1 item. I'm seriously beginning to think that the cashiers at Shaws are instructed to do this on purpose. Also some of their items are seriously overpriced. Take their packaged meat for example WOW a billion dollars for a package of chicken. It sucks. Sad thing is that I don't have a car and need to pay for the bus to get over there and a taxi back. So each time Shaws steals from me I need to march across the city to try and get my money back (which I usually don't do because I can't afford to to). Anyway, just a WARNING to all you SHAWS supermarket customers in the BANGOR MAINE area. Keep a close eye on the people scanning up your groceries because this is happening all too often to be a mistake. I'm seriously thinking they are doing this on purpose to steal money from us. Specially when we are tired after a long day and put our trust in them that we don't need to keep an eye on them. Check your receipt when they ring you up. and keep a close eye on each and every item they put through the scanner. If you catch them see if they keep doing it over time. I'm thinking about filing a report on them to someone, maybe the BBB or States Attorney Generals office. And PS if you work for Shaw's in Bangor Please stop stealing our money and charging us twice for single items. If your business is doing that poorly then maybe the Shaws in your area should close and/or file bankruptcy instead of stealing peoples money.

you HAVE to check your receipt after shopping at Shaws...they rip me off for a dollar or two every time I go there. If they do this to everyone every day, how much extra $ are they raking in every week? I ranted about this on craigslist rants and raves, my post was removed almost immediately...no swears or anything. Go to the co-op, it's more expensive, but they are nice, don't rip people off, and best of all its NOT shaws!

Same here, we have only Shaw's in Hillsboro NH and it is such a ripoff, many prices that are $4.00 at Shaw's are under $3.00 at Hannaford and Market Basket.

DON'T eat their Shaw's brand "Fiber Max" fiber bars (also known as Essential Everyday - Fiber Max). 1. Compared to other high fiber bars on the market this one is extremely hard to chew. 2. It hurt my jaw to chew it. 3. It cut the inside of my mouth on my right cheek. 4. They aren't as tasty as other brands such as Special K or Fiber one. 5. They can be hard to swallow and can be a chocking hazard. Anyway, the bits that I did swallow I'm concerned it may have done harm to me internally considering the Fiber Max bar cut my mouth. But we will see. I plan on bringing the 2 boxes I purchased back to the store for a refund. Oh and PS. Not sure about your locations (I live in Bangor Maine) but keep an eye on the cashiers they often ring up products twice and if you check your receipt when you get home you'll find that there are items that you only bought 1 of but was charged twice. This seems to happen to me more at Shaw's than any other supermarket. For example I'll buy 1 can of tomato sauce but the receipt will show that I bought 2. Or one can of tuna and the receipt indicates 2. After doing the math I realized I've been loosing money slowly by shopping at Shaws. I'm sort of handcuffed to my local Shaws because it's closer to were I live and a taxi is a few dollars cheaper home. Also I can walk there on good days. For some reason other stores like Hannaford seem phobic of my side of town. But I'm thinking it's best that I pay that extra cab fair for better food. Also last week my roommate purchased a bag of potatoes from Shaw's and when we opened the bag we found some of them so rotten that it smelled like ammonia. The stench was so strong that it caused me to have an acute asthma attack. He didn't notice it since the bag was sealed. Sorry to rant so long. I could right more but I'll end this now.

PS On the box of Fiber Max it says "If you're not completely satisfied contact them at essentialeveryday.com " but when I go to their website there is absolutely NO contact information. They do have an 800# on the box but who wants to wait on hold for hours only to talk to someone who can't pronounce English very well off in Abu Dabi? You would assume they would have a feedback form on their website but no they have nothing.

I agree they have high prices. Their meets are outrageous and sometimes it's of low quality. Like it's a day past it's prime selling dates but they sell it to us anyway. and for more than full price at other stores.

Most of you people are ignorant, working at a Shaw's is no more fun than shopping there. It's difficult when the only people who are hired handicapped or are minors, and the few people who know what they are doing can't make up for the slack. Also not all customers are a walk on the beach either, I don't know how many times I've had a customer be a complete douche for no reason or have someone not pay attention and bring a full cart down the express lane. If people are looking for someone to blame blame the store supervisor or the department managers.

I don't believe this post. Rotten potatoes smell so bad that you could smell them through a sealed bag. If you look at those potatoe bags none are air tight it if was sealed air tight rotten potatoes would puff up the bag. Your full of it.

The post said sealed not air tight and I am sure the poster is being honest. The bag was closed and when openened the stench was more obvious.I believe the post.

Market Basket is going to put many other supermarkets on their Heels. Better prices and well staffed stores.

Shaws meats and veggies are a whole lot better than the WM.And Shaw's bags your groceries and even offers to take them out to your car. The prices aren't too much higher especially if you shop the sales.
