This is a real shame. The Fire Department and Building inspector had reservations due to the fact that there are no sprinklers within the structure and should be according to local and State fire codes.
However the Board of Selectmen have exceeded thier authority in allowing a license for 99 people even though the codes do not allow for such exception.
Apparently none of them went to school because allowing the lounge to stay open while they serve food exceeds the allowable occupancy with respect to square footage.
Having it shut down later does nothing to eliminate the possiblity that there will be in excess of 100 people inside at any given time.

So let me get this straight--this new restaurant does not need sprinklers because it is not a "nightclub"? Do the other restaurants in Littleton have sprinklers? Do any other restaurants of this size in MA? A good comparison would be Gibbet Hill in Groton, which is another old structure. Generally, as long fire exits are clearly marked and extinguishers are in place, that should be enough. But it is an interesting issue. The fire prevention officer, the building commissioner, and the fire chief have all signed off on this. Were they pressured? If they were and signed off on what they consider an unsafe structure...but I suspect after 2 rounds of back and forth, a compromise was reached that all concerned could live with. That's usually how these things happen.

Agreed; It may survive as a dinner only place, but to staff and keep breakfast and lunch items 7 days a week? I give it 8 months. Although I wish any local business the best of luck.

The State requires the sprinklers as part of any renovation or sale based on square footage. There is a reason to do so for public safety. Because an older establishment is grandfathered does not give any newly renovated businesses a pass.

Here they are renovating it and both Departments say that they cannot take the word of the owner and after one week they change thier minds. Yeah I think that political pressure was put on by thier bosses, the BOS.

The BOS has been very verbal about wanting a new restaurant in Town so here they are, allowing politcians to endanger the safety and welfare of its citizens.

These people should be recalled.

Come on, I watched the hearing last night. The discussion focused on what is the usage of the building. It was classified as a night club, if you look up and try to read the building codes,(700 pages) nightclubs require sprinklers. They are use group a2. A restaurant is use code A3, which does not require sprinklers until the space is > 12,000 sf

They agreed the place is a restaurant, the bar will not be open when the kitchen is not open. If the state marshal has provided an accurate advise to the town, no sprinkler is required.

Welcome to Littleton Tre Amici. We do need a full service restaurant here in Littleton if we are going to keep our current residents and attract new business!

The owners went through the process required and the business has been approved by the town. What more do you require?

I welcome this new business into Littleton and wish it every success.

Well at least a business is opening and people will have jobs. In this economy that is a blessing. Eat at your own risk.

Why all the negativity? A new business is a good thing. As is another restaurant in the area...there is a severe shortage of good places to eat around here. I look forward to trying it.

The Meat house should have opened in Littleton, at least they'd get a liquor license. Chelmsford selectmen really dropped the ball.

Welcome to Littleton!

I'm pleased to see a new business in town, particularly an Italian restaurant.
To the point - WHen and where will aplications be accepted for the positions needed? This is a serious question, as I was laid off June 18 and live within walking distance.

Best of luck in your new venture.
never eat there
