Go west, young man!

Full story: Nashoba Publishing

Last week's headline was grating for those for and against the Ayer selectmen's proposed 400-car, $11m. Rail Trail commuter parking garage proposed for Park and Main streets.

Good article and well stated . Do you think the Selectman could now start to re-think this entire thing and start to use a little common sense . People in Ayer don't want anymore traffic jams downtown . As it states . If you move the commuter parking , you will free up downtown parking for shoppers and for the merchants . The downtown train stop will continue to stay open for people who walk to the train . It sounds pretty simple and very logical . South Acton train stop is not in the middle of town . All you do is park and walk up to the train , and it is on the same side of the tracks , you don't have to cross any main roads to get to the loading area . They did it right the first time . If Ayer is going to do this why don't we try and get it right the first time . Let's put it in a place where it does not have traffic jams and has access for for commuters who come from all over .

Right! I know people who drive to Acton FROM AYER to get the train just because they DON'T have to park across the street to get to the train. One guy said it takes about the same amount of time to drive from Acton to Ayer as it does to get from the Carlton Circle to the Park St. intersection at "rush" hour. Put the thing on WEST MAIN and get rid of some downtown congestion. I don't care what anyone says, half the parking spots ON main St are commuters, the two hour limit means NOTHING, and to back that up, town hall employees do the same thing, I've seen their cars occupying two hour spots all day, I guess it is too far to walk from the employee parking behind the building. Maybe now that the control freal is off the board someone else might be heard on this issue, as he didn't want to listen to ANYONE who opposed his opinion on the location.

The board could have looked like heros on this entire thing . All they had to do was consider another site to MRTA when a group called the Alternate site committee requested the Selectman to have a back up plan and the selectman would not even consider it . Instead they staged a charrett at the high school , stacked each table , pre-rehearsed by one of the selectmans wifes , had Cris Ryan bring in outside speakers to make it look legit , they called themselves planners , put colored stickers on each persons package that were handed out by Cris Ryan so the people who did not agree with the selectmans idea could not sit togather , anyone who was to speak aginst the downtown site was cut off or nor recognized to speak , they put prints up of the parking garage so it would look good , they dragged it out until they got the people to hear what they wanted to hear , they had pPeter Loweitt from Maaa Development come in to coordinate it and moderate it because they were all in the Association of Planners togather and they coud have them turn this in their favor . One of the current board of selectman was part and player of theis entire CIRCUS . The funny thing is that they were convinced that they were smarter than the people of Ayer , MassDot , MBTA , ADA ,MAAB , MRPC , MMPO and every other agency that had any involvment in this process . Well the former town administer is gone , former economic developer is gone , a former selectman who started this entire mess is gone and most of the people who were in favor of the rail trail site are very quiet these days . You can thank them all because now we have lots of bills of wasted planning to the tune of about 189,000 and nothing to show for it because they would not listed to anyone . Now would be a good time to start to listen to the people weather you agree with them or not . It is time to do the right thing for the town and what works and what is logical . John

Very well put . As I stated in the past . I was all for keeping the new garage in the downtown area , but it is over now it is time to move on and do what is best for the town and do what the MassDot wants and what will work . It is time to look at a better location and a regional answer for the area and free up the parking for the downtown area . Move the comuter parking to the West Main Street area where it works for everyone . Better access , surface parking if needed , same side of the tracks . safer for the public , no traffic congestion , if the fire dept. should get a call they won't be stuck in traffic , it will be in compliance with the ADA , it won't destroy the look of the downtown , plenty of room for expansion for the future . It will have everything needed and more . It will also help the businesses in the area . TIME TO DO THE RIGHT THING .

Well , what is the next step . MassDot had to step in and put an end to this nonsense of a 11 million dollar garage in downtown Ayer because it was senseless and wastful . Do the selectman make the next move and request a better location that makes sense or do they wait on it and lose the funding .

He got his training on how to waste money and tick people off as a selectman. Now he wants to move on to the legislature where he can get PAID to do it.
