If Your tranfer station is being run right it should be paying for it self. Oh! I forgot that is "Ayer" you people can not do anything "right".

@No Kidding - Ayer does plenty right. This is the right thing to do. Folks abused the system - time for everyone to pay a nominal fee. Too bad but that's the way trash and recyclables go. There's a cost to manning the dump...further proof there's no thing as free lunch. i despise fees but cash poor towns like ours must invoke reasonalbe fees for municipal service.

The only thing "Poor" about that town is; Is it is a POOR excuse for a town. I know of towns that man the transfer station and break even. So based on results, Your town as usual isn't doing it right. Which is no surprise for Ayer. Really should go back to being Groton Junction.

i'm with you time to pay , Ayer is a well run town the transfer station fees are much lower than surrounding towns. 10 dollars seems fair.
Good job Mary Spinner.

Why would somebody from Maine be so bitter about a small town in Massachusetts? I've lived here for 12 years and love this town.

Stay in Maine and worry about your own town/State.

I am not in Maine any more than you being in Hudson,Ma. That really shows that you are a dips**t, But then again you live in Ayer. The location is the IP not a GPS. That again is beyond you thinking skills.

Why would you care about the town politics if you don't live in the town? Do you even live in this state?

I won't tell you I know more than my share of the garbage. Some of it I had a front row seat for. To Mary Spinner, I hear that you had a nice conversation with Mr.Wood.

No Kidding, you need to get a life, if you know something of value share it, or go away. Ayer is no different than any other small time

What don't you get about recycle? You clean your plastic and cans, pay the town to accept them and then they sell it to some company to make a new product that you buy later.

Then the town must be bringing in revenue. What are they using the money on? It should go back to running the transfer station. No that would make way too much sense, Something Ayer Lacks.

The economics of recycling is that it is cheaper to dispose of recycled goods than standard trash. By recycling more, the DPW saves money.

where does it say in the article that "the fee is to cover the cost of the recycling station"? it doesn't say that not once in the article. the town wants to charge a small fee to generate $ for whatever else... sounds like a better way to make up costs to me, rather than raising the town taxes.

Mary Spinner is absolute scum. It is known by many in town government that she is a criminal.Yes, in the literal sense. She has repeatedly done something in full view of most, which carries 21/2 years incarceration, but most in any position to do anything about it refuse to get involved.I for one have gone to the cops, town government etc. to no avail . In one case she discriminated against an Ayer resident at the polls. The town administrator at least is making a real effort to address the issue, and is waiting to hear from the Attorney General on the issue. It's a disgrace that she is even on the board of health.Problem is, there are a lot of vermine just like her in this town.

If you want me to recycle, why would you make me pay extra for it? What happened to: recycling helps the planet? Think Green? Blah Blah Blah! F-ing tree huggin a-holes! I went along with recycling because it's probably a good idea to decrease the trash that we have. But, I'll be damned if I'll let them start charging me more for it.

I already pay to get rid of the trash. So, now you want us to pay for the trash and the recycling? Now you want me to separate it and pay you more?I'll just throw my recycling in the trash from now on. That way, I don't have to separate it and I only pay once.

No wonder people are moving out of Mass. in droves!
