I grew up in Tewksbury and now live in Wilmington. I do not like the idea of a regional school. I went to the open house for Wilmington High in October (my son will be going there in Aug 09) and I loved what the prinicpal had to say about community, learning, etc. I do not want my child to get lost in the system. Wilmington is a wonderful community to raise your children in and our schools are not in trouble.

I went to Tewksbury high school & think it would be a GOOD idea to merge them together; if you grow up in Tewksbury you always see the same people from Elementary school alll the way to High school; which some people like but i didnt what so eva!
i think it would be good to mix things up, get them to meet new peers & join them together!

it would Save money too.

There is already a regional school right down the street from both towns. Arguably it is one of the best regional schools in the state. If growing numbers is the problem Shawsheen is the answer. City officials should urge Superintendent Charles Lyons to expand his high school to accomodate the growing number of applicants each year.

I feel the number of students that would be in that regional school would be too much.

Additionally, Wilmington is fiscally responsible, Tewksbury is not. There would be problems with Wilmington wanting to fund certain things for the school, but Tewksbury would balk and build a senior center instead.

Regionalize emergency response (police and fire) and even other town services (tax/bill collection, DPW's, etc.), but I think the student population is too big in both towns for a regional high school

Sounds to me like Tewksbury wants Wilmington to bail them out, I'm all set with that. I moved to Wilmington from the bury and the schools were one of the main reasons for the move

The tech is a good school because they demand how much money they want per student and the local towns have no choice but to pay it. If we could get that much in per pupil spending our high school would be great too, but, again, we have a taj mahal senior center, library and police station instead.

Tewksbury is in a FINANICAL MESS, why bring other towns into it.

Also, was born and raised in Wilm and we are a community. We are the Wilmington Wildcats!

It does sound like Tewksbury wants Wilmington to bail them out and Mr. O'Neil has a big problem with the Tech so this may be his way of trying to get out of that relationship which he is doing everything to do now. He needs to go!

I live in Burlington and think Wilmington is a great town. If I lived there I would take up arms before I allowed my kids education to be linked to Tewks. That town is a dump top to bottom and I thank god I chinged up extra $ 8 years ago for my house.

If Tewksbury had some major businesses like Wilmington does, instead of Pizza Joints, Dollar Stores and Chinese Restaurants that would bring in more revenue, it would look good too!!

The only Reason Wilmington would want this to happen is so they can stop losing every Thanksgiving.

LOL - Grow up! It's not about winning the Turkey Day Game. If they combined schools it would make Wilmington look bad. Tewksbury needs to fix their issues and not bring Wilmington into it. Town Manager Mr. Caira will not let Wilmington go down down hill.

Good idea but why not add in Billerica and/or Chelmsford to the region and why stop at education. Lets do the same for Police, Fire, Dept. of Health, DPW, etc.
Something has to give or it makes no financial sense owning property in this state. This small state of ours has 351 towns and cities with most self governing all of their functions. It cannot work any longer. Sure the unions and School Superintendents and Police and Fire Chiefs will oppose it and give us all sorts of reasons why it can't work. But their real issue with it is the elimination a lot of the resulting redundancy. People have to get past not having their alma mater high school football team to grow old with.

What's wrong with the Shawsheen Tech which includes Wilmington and Tewksbury? Can't they expand or make the school bigger. I don't think having one highschool for both towns will work. And who will the Wildcats kick ass on Thanksgiving day?
