And call volume isn't as big of an issue as everybody thinks it is. There are plenty of successful volunteer departments that run up to 40-50 calls per day.

Maybe you should share these tired and true methods of fundraising or better yet maybe you should join the FD and head the committee to raise the funds. You are right on one thing it is not going to be easy and immediate. So once again put forth YOUR hard work, dedication and time and when you put in 40 hours at work, 10 to 20 hours running calls and taking training and 20 hours PER WEEK raising money, then let the FD know how you feel. If you have never done that then you don't know what hard work dedication and time is.

I was part of a VFD I understand the struggles because it's always a struggle being a volunteer company depending on the goodness of people and the blood sweat and tears of others. However I also am a member of a society where people are being foreclosed on, people have barely enough money to feed their children and yet another group wants money because they too have hit a financial hardship. I applaud any volunteer however this is not the right time when so many community members are suffering to further stick in a knife. I do support Alpha I was at the Chicken BBQ last week, I've bought 2 tickets to their Outdoorsman Extravaganza, I attend their carnival multiple evenings. I do give my money to a good cause however it's my choice to give not forced to give. IMHO everytime new taxes are levied against the people they start out small and the increase substantially with no accountability and there's no guarantee that this will not be the same, as history shows it's bound to happpen exactly like others who were doing good for the people and wanting to charge for their services.

Here's a few questions I have, if a tax is imposed will it no longer become a volunteer FD? I understand there will be no paid firemen however will their be full transparancy? Will Alpha report to the people the income and spending and do the people get a say in the expenditures? Many questions need to be asked and answered before eit's taken out of the hands of the people and all points of view need to be considered before this is put into play.

In response to Common sense - How do you know the "old historic station is fine....what we have now serves the purpose just fine" Are YOU a firman? Do you know anything about what our firemen are dealing with?
In response to No More Taxes - Fundraising does work!!!Do you have a ticket in the 2000 Club? Why not - it is a fundraiser and there are probably hundreds of tickets available!!!!! Try supporting their activities!!!25 years ago in this town you could not find a ticket to the 2000 Club.
We need to stand behind these men and women who do what they do for US!!!If I need to call them I want them to be ready and prepared. Would you prefer to have Kingsdale's situation-closed doors?
Because I can see it with my own eyes that it's fine!! If it were not we would have heard about it a long time ago if work needed to be done. AND NO I am not a "firman" of course you mean fireman, and no I do not know what "our firemen" are dealing with because all I am reading here is a bunch of guys who volunteer crying for a new building. The firehouse has served it's purpose for many many years, the real work is at the destination of emergency not in the actual building. Why can't all you crybabies be proud of the building you already have and stop trying use our tax dollars for another one, it's not going to happen. I have lived in this area for over 20 years, I think ALPHA FIRE CO does an excellent job at responding to emergencies and as a citizen I am very proud of their work, and YOU should be too.

Now we know where the expert firefighter Tony Clifton is from that likes to quarterback every other fire companies calls. Don't think thats your correct name becasue the Chief would probably be on your back for your posts but I probably think you are a career firefighter for a short time and now seen it all and done it all.

A little common sense and planning go a long way.

It's not time for career departments anywhere. It'stime for people to lose their sense of privledge and entitlement, and selfishness and start contributing back into their comomunities like they used to.
But I know I'm dreaming.
CCMD, you are correct, you are dreaming! Adams county is rapidly changing and it will never be like it was when I was a kid. People are moving into the county every day and it is not going to stop. Once the economy begins to pick up again, in a couple of years if we are lucky, you'll see all of the housing projects on the books being built. NOW is the time to plan and begin building a county fire service, county police department and county EMS (ambulance) service. We put off the road by-passes for Gettysburg and Hanover and you can see the negative results of that decision every day. We, the county, need to plan NOW and implement that plan very quickly before it is to late again.

Boy Oh Boy there Tony I don't believe planning is exactly what accountant is talking about. I think perhaps its your know-it-all attitude and quarterbacking other fire department's calls. Just taking a guess at it though.
