Faint phone signal leads searchers to lost hunter

Searchers used a faint cell phone signal to track down a lost hunter who was found barefoot in northern Minnesota.

Glad they found him and he was able to get signal. Obviously he had bad hypothermia if he took his boots and socks off. He wouldn't have made it much longer. Glad he's o.k.

It is called a personal locater beacon. Anyone who ventures out should have one. You can be located in less than 3 minutes. One of the signs of hypothermia is feeling warm and a person starts to disrobe. Once that happens a person will die unless found quickly.

PLB's cost anywhere from 150 dollars to over a 1000, but even the less expensive ones work on the Search and Rescue Satellite Network.(SAR-SAT)Over 150,000 lives have been saved by using a PLB.

No, it's quite common when you get hypothermia. Your body feels really hot when in fact your core temp is dangerously close to dying. Your thought process gets all out of whack when your brain tries to counteract the body temp drop. Many times rescuers find victims stripped all the way down and they leave their essential potentially life saving gear behind. Usually they are dead at that point and this guy was lucky they found him. He wouldn't have lasted muchg longer. Glad he's o.k.
