does anyone know anything about the arkansas schutzhund club. i have visited their trials a couple of times now and i am not liking what i see. the very first time i visited i was rudely accosted by the very first person i met (the club VP- mike yarnell.) the club seems to be nothing but a buch of breeders who have come together to push e/o's dogs. i found most of the people there to be very snooty when it comes to outside dogs. they intentionally tryed to make my brother and i feel as though we had wasteed our time and money with our dogs. i went to the club in memphis and found just the oppisite. the people were friendly, helpful and encouraging.

i want to believe that i just had i bad experiience and i should continue to try arkansas schutzhund club, mainly cause it is so much closer. i'de love to hear from other people though.

yeah, i had much the same experience. my wife and i went this weekend. that yarnell guy was the same to us. extremly rude and condisending, but everyone else we met was very friendly. they let us hang out and watch and the people we good about filling us in on what was going on.
that being said, i was not made to feel that they were interesteed at all in having new members (especially my wife and i) but they were fairly nice. i have been e-mailing some people connected to the one in memphis and back home in dallas and they seem much more interested in growing the sport and bringing in new blood.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of similar stories too. There is said to be a guy starting one in Cabot I think. I hope so, cause north west ark and Memphis are too far to drive.

i dont know who this is, but you obviiously have never spent any real time with us, cause if you did you would see that we are friendly and nice people. and maybe mike is a bit hard to know sometimes, but that's only because this sport means alot to him and he doesnt want losers like you getting involed. so you dont need to be on here bitching about no feeling accepted. if you dont feel accepted, its your own fault cause your a piece a crap.

i heard it was a breeders club. i live in texarkana, so i have always gone down to dallas because when i first did my research to find a club, all i ever heard about the one in little rock was that it was basicly a bunch of breeders who get together to play at schutzhund and promate their dogs. they aren't interested in growing the sport and have very limited knowledge. thats just what i heard.

when i first got an interest in schutzhund i ask everybody i knew who had knoledge about that type of work (i do police combat training in central arkansas, so they were mainly cops)and i kept hearing Greg Durham's name. so, thats who i went with and have never looked back. he has a practical and effective approach to working dogs. i love working with him and have had incredible results. so i would deffinitly look at greg. i don't know much about the arkansas schutzhund club other than to say, ive seen them represented well at competitions but i dont believe they are in greg's class.

Doesn't look like anyone but us, gladtobehere and schuthunder, has THE STONES to speak up either for or against Greg - which must mean we're pretty damn smart and Greg is all that and a bag of chips!

well "CM", i have been asking around and your boy greg seems to have a stearling reputation. i have talked to him and he seems to be the kind of fellow that i would have hoped to find at ASC but didnt. i am looking forward to starting my training with him. i appreciate the input from everyone, but expesially from you. thank you.

I have been to the Arkansas Schutzhund Club. Yes, Mike is an a$$hole, and yes a lot of them do not have a clue how to properly build a foundation on a dog for Schutzhund. There are only three people who really know how to train a dog at this club. Jani Turkia, there helper, is a National level helper and a traing helper. It is a shame that this club does not utilize him more but continues to use someone named Ken White , who as far as I can tell, hasen't had a dog titled above the club level in years, and not many club titles. The rest want to sit around bitch, run people down and tell people there dog is crap. No, I will never train at this club after visiting a Trial!!

ASC, it is people like you who keep people from coming to that club. You guys are not true sports and do nothing to promote the sport. Shame on you!!! As long as that Mike guy is there that club will never amount to much. He is the most self centered person I have ever met. Thank, you , I will stay training at other clubs, even if it means driving!

Hello all, it's true we have some strong characters in our club that at times say the wrong thing. However, if Mike says your dog is not worth a crap he just means that the dog is going to have a hard time with the sport. If you talk to him futher you will find out he trained dogs that were more than likely worse than the one you have. What he means to say is that if you are really interested in the sport you might think about getting another dog. To IPO1, as for not using Jani right now, we have nothing to do with that. He is spending time with his growing family and training on sat. is not possible for him because that's when he watches his kids play sports.
