Bobby probably gave them a 20-year tax break to come in and compete with the YMCA.

Have been a member of local Planet Fitness gym for the past 4 years. As far as gym memberships go it is truly an awsome bargain. Facilities tend to be large; the equipment is new and extremely well maintained. The true cost of membership is really only $10 monthly plus a $29 annual membership fee. If in no hurry to join wait until December when they always offer a $99 yearly membership and waive the $29 annual charge. I have belonged to 3 other gyms in past 20 years, using facilities on a very regular basis. My costs were usually between $30-$40 monthly. All in all Planet Fitness is a far superior gym at a third the cost. Usually they only open in large population areas as their capital outlay to open a facility is huge. Are we sure a Planet Fitness facility is open in the area?

Planet fitness is a place wear your sized up. If you have a nice physique and some size, your discouraged from joining. Grunt free zone (giggles). It's a safe gym for women and their jellyfish boyfriends who are afraid of their women of looking at a motivated bodybuilder.

I hate it when posters like Arnold start spouting things they know nothing about. It is most obvious he has never been to a Planet Fitness gym. To piggyback on what Untrue stated, their trainers are quite good and come at no cost. I suspect the poster "Arnold" is probably an individual who always has a negative bent(the glass is always half empty syndrome) regardles of what the subject might be. Given capital requirements I still doubt that you will see a Planet Fitness franchise in the Mohawk Valley If by some remote chance an entrepreneur did decide to make an investment in this company, it would most likely be located in Herkimer. The reasons for that should be obvious.
Bottom line: Planet Fitness is a real gym,not a cult with many many physical buffs enjoying their memberships.

I like to go to the gym to work out and actually get stronger, not eat tootsie rolls. Clearly I would be wasting my $10 a month at Planet Fitness.

Well, I guess the "locals" have rallied around Arnold for what-ever-reason. Might be symptom of "Small Town Syndrome," also know as "Circle the Wagons," We don,t want, We don,t need any dam thing from "outsiders." I will say it again: Planet Fitness is one hell of a gym. And yes, tootsie rolls are available in a basket at the desk should you desire a sweet snack. All for $10.00 a month. As I said before, "Ain,t going to happen in the Mohawk Valley. As a postscript I would add that the two negative posters on this thread would probably enjoy a workout session at a Planet Fitness gym, if they should ever have the opportunity to visit such an establishment.

I dunno about that, chief. I tend to sweat a lot and grunt when I work out, because I am ... you know ... working hard to develop new muscle mass and strength. I hear I will set off some sort of "Lunk Alarm" at your purple-pink gym, and be escorted out.

Two maxims for working out to seriously improve your strength:

1.) The pain you feel is the weakness leaving your body.
2.) No pain, no gain.

Planet Fitness may be a nice social club, but I wanna work out.

But I agree with you that we don't have enough people in the area to make it profitable. That's okay; we have the YMCA, with a downstairs gym for lunks and an upstairs gym for non-lunks. So all is well in LF.

The Little Falls Y actually has very nice facilities--both up and down. Another reason that it would be difficult for the community to support another gym-facility. Case in point; a local merchant tried opening a spinning class center on West Main Street in the past year or two without success. Not sure if it was the limited hours that the place was open or just not enough people to support the business. By the way Lunk, your right about no pain no gain-- be it pushing iron or revering up an intense cardio workout. Gyms were meant to induce sweat and labored breathing---even at Planet Fitness----just not the loud grunting and primal screams. Enjoy a tootsie roll on the way out.

None of the Simpson businesses have prospered, it would seem. I'm not sure why that is. Otoh, Curves seemed to do perfectly well, by focusing on a specific market niche. But they got evicted to make room for Price Chopper. I think Curves moved to Herkimer, maybe?

I agree that fitness is good for everybody, and we all have different wants and needs, so it is good for there to be a lot of different types of facilities and programs. The more the merrier. Get out and exercise, no matter how or where you do it, and you will live a healthier and happier life!

Some of the marketing material for Planet Fitness kinda jumped the shark and made fun of lunks like me, so we take the opportunity to push back when given the chance. Don't take personal offense.

Lunk, No offense. I actually had same doubts as others about PF before joining---not a real gym, limited weights, etc--yada,yada,yada. Was not aware Curves had been evicted to make way for PC----the holy grail of supermarkets and pending Little Falls community savior. Well that statement might be a little over the top. Wife used to be member of Curves. At some point decided to join a gym. Not PF. We need our space to be able to maintain our relationship. Although she liked Curves, she felt very limited by its circuit training regiment. I guess the "Simpsons" are the great mystery of LF. Outsiders with what appear to be the best of intentions. Shame about the restaurant. Keeps leasing to individuals with extremely limited capital; and in some instances individuals with serious character flaws. But that is a whole different thread that has been beaten to death. Lets drink to physical fitness regardless of gym preference

Does that space still smell like cat urine?
