Kids need their fat lazy parents to stop trying to relive their childhood and trying to be BFF 's with their kid. Be a parent, you can say NO, you can teach respect. It is your job, oh yea most of you don't have jobs do ya. LFMama for example.

Don't you dare call my child lazy! Or fat either. He has a food allergy.
I looked the new playground over yesterday. It is big and colorful and pretty, but I noticed that there is nothing there that requires physical exertion or that trains physical fitness, like parallel bars or horizontal ladders. It is looks like a playground for the Chicken McNuggets Generation of children we are raising in Little Falls. You know, those fat, jiggly kids that run ten yards then sit down to rest, their faces flushed.

Good call huh. What I personally don't understand is why parents are somehow surprised that their 25 year olds still aren't independent people. Falling flat on your behind and learning how to deal with things is somehow bad these days. You treat them like coddled babies for twenty years and expect them to understand what it takes to be an adult? Learning how to fail and try again and again and again for me has been one of the best life skills that I feel like I have.

I know a 52 y/o unemployed college boy that still lives with his mom.
Maybe we should put non-skid on the slide down there to help them appreciate "failure" before it's too late.

That's not what I'm saying. What I am saying is if they are given everything they ever want in life and you're always there to baby them when they get their feelings hurt that may not be a good thing.

My father used to beat me if I cried when I skinned my knee or if I whined when somebody teased me. It made me the man I am today.

Did you actually look at the playground because its anything but colorful. Its light brown and oliveish green. Also, while there are no parallel bars there are climbing walls that are meant to simiulate rock climbing and there is one set of step ups (I don't actually know what to call it, its like a ladder with steps but no middle so the kids have to climb up the outside edges) that uses their core muslces and their arms and leg muscles and their brains to look at it and figure out what to do. For me the playground is great (except for the colors) but my child is only 4 and in Pre-K. I don't think the playground offers very many activities for the older kids, say 4th, 5th graders. They'll be bored with it.

True. The older kids used to use the fitness stations along the edge of the old playground.

I'm just impressed with the fact that last years 5th grade class got the screwjob- no playground, no class trip.
