In the town
Where I was born,
Lived a man,
who'd sailed the seas.

And he ruled
that little town.
And he plotted,
And he schemed.

But he failed
To do his sums
and the town lacked
That money green.

So he turned
That little town
To a Tax
Assessors Dream.

We all live in a Tax Assessors Dream
Tax Assessors Dream
Tax Assessors Dream
We all live in a Tax Assessors Dream
Tax Assessors Dream
Tax Assessors Dream

And they lived
A life of ease
Every one of them
Has all they need.
No one knows
Just where it goes
Counting money,
With your Toes.

We all live in a Tax Assessors Dream
Tax Assessors Dream
Tax Assessors Dream
We all live in a Tax Assessors Dream
Tax Assessors Dream
Tax Assessors Dream.

Nice song. But can anybody tell us what is going on with this? Has the matter been settled? Or is Peters still planning on trying to tax the YMCA?

Look, Jeff and Bart, we signed your freaking petition, so you owe us some information on what is happening.

ON the issue of Tax Assessment. No one wants to pay higher taxes, so our roads and bridges are crumbling. One fair solution is to create a new assessment for so-called non-profit, which would also include churches. Every property should be on the assessment rolls and paying taxes. They all use the services that the government provides. And lets face it they are all making money. But not one politician would dare to do this so. In this county there is too much incest between politicans and some people (for example Gressler and Delucco)that we will not see fairness for all taxpayers. I do not mind paying my fair share but what about these others?

Property tax exemptions are grounded in State law, so that is a matter for the State Senate and Legislature to address. Call Marc and Jim and tell them what you think.

The fact is that Peters was smart enough to understand that the proliferation and expansion of non-profits over the past thirty or so years has changed the game for municipal finance. Heck, everyone in government knows that. But Peters made a huge mistake to try to tackle the problem unilaterally, and in blithe disregard of State law governing non-profit tax exemptions. It led him down the bizarre and legally-deficient path of challenging the charitable mission of local non-profits that he did not understand, nor care to understand. It led him to forge tactical alliances with people whose motives were suspect, and that too tainted his misguided effort. It led us into expensive and unnecessary lawsuits, and it divided the community once again.

This epic failure will, sadly, be his legacy.

About all of the perpetual, permanent property and sales tax breaks Price Chopper is going to receive for building that store in Little Falls???? Like Neil Golub, the multi-millionaire owner and CEO of Price Chopper out of Schenectady NEEDS tax-break concessions!!! While WE here in Little Falls STRUGGLE every year to keep up with the ever-increasing property taxes in this God-forsaken has-been of a town!!! Quite a sweet deal for millionaire Golub and his family, and what do WE THE TAXPAYERS GET??? Besides another place to buy our overpriced groceries--which we already had with the Big M in place??? Same as it ever was, same as it ever was! The rich keep getting richer and the poor keep having babies!!

I REALLY don't believe that Price Chopper is going to build a store in Little Falls. The lot and that end of the plaza are not large enough to support a store the size that Price Chopper builds. And gee, how much of the lot would be left over for parking spaces?? I just don't see it happening in Little Falls-have you ever seen a SMALL Price Chopper store?? I haven't, not in about thirty years, when they were all on the small side as Neil Golub was building his business and customer base during the seventies and eighties.

You keep saying this, yet Bobby could very well win in court, which would mean all of the above is incorrect. Neither you nor I can predict the outcome of the court case.

You cannot win in court if you do not have a lawyer, now can you? The Common Council resolved not to pay any more legal bills to attack the YMCA. How could Bobby possibly win in court without lawyers?

Has the YMCA received discontinuance papers yet? Is this fiasco FINALLY over yet?

It's interesting that you respond with hypotheticals which ignore the merits of the case. It's because you know I'm right. Despite your pronouncements, the Y hasn't won, the city hasn't lost... and Bobby isn't wrong. Yet.

That's not even remotely close to what Bobby told the Utica High School AV club:

It's going to happen. I work for a construction company, and we just bid on the demo portion of the building. We only have 3 weeks to complete our work. You will start to see a lot of activity in the next couple of weeks.

Good to know. In the bidding process for the demolition. Do you happen to know when the contract for demolition is scheduled to be awarded?

The tax payers, through the IDA, are giving the developer over $320,000 in tax incentives to build that retail store, so it had damned well better happen. The IDA doesn't need another Burrito Jonz type of embarrassment.

JESUS AGED CHRIST!!! Hundreds of THOUSANDS of dollars in tax-break concessions to a developer who is probably a millionaire and doesn't NEED them, just like Neil Golub(Price Chopper's owner and CEO) doesn't NEED the sales and property tax breaks he's going to be receiving for opening that store in Little Falls. Same as it ever was. The rich keep getting richer and the poor in Little Falls and elsewhere keep having babies! We're all frickin' doomed, except those multi-millionaires who can afford to avoid and escape what is coming for mankind in the not-too-distant future.

1. Has the city formally withdrawn the effort to tax the YMCA?

2. Is the city continuing to try to tax other non-profits?

3. How is the mayor going to get revenge on his enemies for this defeat?

Jeff might of been able to stop paying the city's lawyer, but the lawyer is following through as a matter of principle. I also understand that there is a group of business owners forming in protest to the actions of the YMCA and Gressler actions. This is not over by a long shot.

If, and I repeat IF this is true, then that means Peters is seeking sneaky ways to end run the will of the voters and the Common Council. If that is the case, we need to shoot this administration down like a rapid dog.

Short question: is the city (and its lawyers) continuing to do discovery against the Y, in contravention of what Peters told us in his news interview?
