The times they are a-changin for sure. Just so people in the LF valley don't think that we have the only government challenging the tax exempt status of hospitals read this from the NY Times. Simply put, if the hospital doesn't have enough charity cases then they no longer qualify for their tax exempt status.

Illinois law is different than New York law. And the law of economics says that if Bobby chases our hospital jobs and services to Cooperstown there will be hell to pay. Bobby, that hare-brained assessor and every single council member will be run out of town on a rail.

What does the City Charter say about impeachment? Recall? Mental incapacity? Seriously, it is time to look at stopping this insanity.

NO WAY THE HOSPITAL WOULD EVER LEAVE. Sorry to shout at you but you just made an idiotic leap that a corporation making $33 million a year, netting $6 million a year would leave this cash-cow community just because they may need to pony up $10k -$20k in property taxes??

http://dynamodata.fdncenter.org/990_pdf_archi...

PUHLEAZE!!!! Would you give up $6 mil a year NET, take your ball and leave the game, move, just because you had to pay a pittance in tax? OR would you continue to improve / expand your business to make even more $$.

Is that you Joy? Or just a friend? You are GAMBLING with our future. Do you have any idea how many times we have already almost lost the hospital? Do you have any idea how little it will take for Basset to pull the plug on Little Falls? One rogue assessor whispering sweet-sounding nonsense about tax revenues in the ear of one idiot mayor could cause Little Falls to lose its biggest employer, and lose the city hospital. If that happens, you can just stick a fork in Little Falls, because we will be DONE.
Mayor Peters is about to go into the history books as the man who single-handedly destroyed Little Falls by his recklessness.

You feckless IDIOT! I just looked at your tax return link, and saw that the Little Falls Hospital LOST more than $940,000 in the prior year based on revenues, and only made money the current year because of a $5 million grant and contributions. The hospital operation is LOSING nearly a million dollars a year, and only charity is keeping the hospital afloat. How can you tax CHARITY you effing MORON????

The Hospital is LOSING nearly a MILLION DOLLARS per year, and the City thinks they can start taxing them without losing the hospital???? Time to impeach this mayor and fire this assessor!

It is idiocy like that which is about to destroy Little Falls. After 201 years, I think this is it for Little Falls. Done in by the sad combination of a fiscal crisis and a reckless mayor.

Little Falls splits in two while our courageous leader remains silent. Silence is really the hallmark of his time as mayor.

The silence...is almost deafening.

You didn't get the terms, Moron.
To qualify for tax free the Hospital must treat a % of charity cases, which it didn't meet.
Losing money at a business is not charity, it;s bad management. Surely you wouldn't support giving tax breaks because a business fails to show a profit,
I'm like most legitimate taxpayers. I say if you are not a charity, pay taxes. if your business is failing year after year, get new management. Don't ask me to cover a failing business share of the collective tax burden.
Lose millions every year -- I work 2 jobs & won't make a million in my lifetime -- and you think I should pay their "Fair share" for them?
I see why you chose the name ___-- More money than brains!

I'm not trying to stir up trouble but to all the Chicken Littles on this post...the sky is not falling and maybe, just maybe the hospital is evolving from a community charity hospital to a regional for-profit arm of Basset Healthcare? They have spent $8 million on improvements and renovations since 2006 and will spend another almost $13 million on this latest round of renovations and expansions. You don't spend $21 million dollars on renovations / expansions since 2006 if you are a charity case and just barely hanging on.

I love the hospital and think they should try to evolve into a regional level I trauma center...and maybe they will. But to think that the hospital accountants will suggest to the board and the trustees that they pack up and go, leave nearly $21 million in renovations on the table,$33 million in revenue every year on the table, millions in their salaries on the table just because LF may charge property tax since they may have evolved from a community charity hospital to a regional for-profit center of Basset Healthcare??

See news article below:

The second phase of Little Falls Hospitalís $12.3 million renovation and expansion project is scheduled to begin today. This work will affect normal access routes for patients, visitors and employees until Friday, Oct. 19, a news release stated.Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Ogden said previously the plans for the expansion started with the need to address the hospitalís increase in outpatient services.
ďItís really a recognition of our demand for service in the community, in the area and in the Mohawk Valley. Itís a reflection of that, and we saw the need to improve the facilities to increase patient satisfaction and to allow us to provide better services,Ē he said.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
The hospital has put nearly $8 million into improvements since 2006, when it became an affiliate of Bassett. Those improvements included an emergency department expansion, a new dialysis center, a new adult day care center and renovations to the 25-bed inpatient unit. The dialysis center is operated by Bassett and the day care center is operated by affiliate Valley Health Services.

You are an utter blathering idiot. If the LF hospital is forced to go toward a for-profit model, Basett will close it and board it up faster than you can say "SUNK COSTS". Take your reckless foolishness elsewhere. That kind of reckless foolishness is what got Bob into this mess to begin with.

If the city needs more money, they can start by laying off 1/3 of the city workers, selling some of their FLEET of trucks, and then selling 1/2 of those vacant properties and empty lots that Bobby has been collecting to give to fictitious internet companies and turn into fictitious parking lots. Make your own cuts, Peters, and stop attacking our non-profits!

OMFG! Is that really the City's tactic? To extort money from the hospital by trying to hold their new renovations at ransom?? That is crazy and reckless foolishness! Joy, go Google the term "SUNK COST" and see just how that will end!

Hint: It will end with a boarded-up hospital, it will!

Calm down tinker bell...do you really think the City of Little Falls has absolutely ANYTHING to do with the tax status of the hospital? That is between the IRS and the Hospital...nothing to do with LF. You appear to be the blathering idiot with your mouth shooting off the way it is.

Stop trolling. You know perfectly well the role the city assessor plays in processing property tax exemptions. Now we have heard that the city assessor, under the direction of the mayor, is trying to re-construe section 420 of the RPTL as a means of levying NEW taxes on both the YMCA and the Hospital. I am waiting to hear what other non-profits the city is attacking as well: apparently, they are ALL on the chopping block for next year if not this year. This move is going to devastate the non-profits and churches in Little Falls. This is an example of city government at its very worst and most reckless.

STOP TROLLING!!! Holy chit that is the funniest thing coming from you. How many names have you posted under on this discussion? I bet 10 if it is 1.

Look tink, you need to face reality and stop shooting off your foolish pie-hole.

Do you want a modern hospital in LF or a shabby charity hospital?

Do you want a modern grocery store or the Big M & the co-op?

Do you want residents buying & fixing up houses in LF or do you want the Y to own them and rent them out to derelicts / sex offenders / druggies so that nobody new wants to move here?

I want what's best for LF, you want what's best for you. I want the rubble pile cleaned up, the bridge completed and codes office to enforce the rules.

I know your answer already...NIMBY, NIMBY, NIMBY!!!!!

FACTS:
The hospital is a 501c3 charity non-profit organization. The City Assessor has NO business taxing it.
The YMCA (to include the Co-Op) is a 501c3 charity non-profit organization. The City Assessor has NO business taxing it.

It sounds like you want the City Assessor to take responsibility for the Police functions in Little Falls, the Codes functions in Little Falls, and now the Planning Board in Little Falls. You are a crazy man.
