It's a $30k-60k job.
But, maybe he just needs an expense account.
The Alderpeople can be paid more too, if there were only two of them.

Ishmael would you be Mayor or $3600 a year? no benefits. Same as alderpeson the salary hasn't been raised in over 50 years they get $1200 a year, no benefits. Ed Vogt sayd he got $1200 in 1960. That includes meetings no less than 3 times a week, boards they oversee, along with their wards responsibility. Our surrounding villages trustees are paid much higher.$3000 for Dolgeville, Herkimer $6000 Ilion $4000 with benefits and retirement according to the web site someone posted on here.
Your the one to always say how much they should be doing for the city, how many hours they need to work and yet no pay? Maybe if the salary was higher more people who step up and run for office.
I'm all for cutting cost but think they should get this.

Those are the terms, don't like them don't run for the office. That way you are doing the job because you want to,not for the money. This is not a time to be asking for more money.

I'm not sure what I think about mayoral salary; it is definitely a part-time job at best, imo. But I am certain that alderperson should be completely a volunteer position. No salary, no nothing. And they should NEVER be allowed to vote on their own salaries!!!! Conflict of interest ... fox guarding the hen house, etc.

What is the actual situation ?
Are meetings well attended ?
Are there many canidates for the jobs ?
Are there citizens volunteering to help on projects ?

The only comment I can make...
From my distance...
Is the lack of information...
I can find no minutes online for Council or Committee meetings...
Almost nothing of substance is online.
No budgets.
No feasability studies.
No planning documents.
No way to know what the city is actually thinking.

Not sure where you're going with this. I believe I said they all need a raise. Specifically the mayor ie "$30k-$60k". I can do it for $34K, but only because I have a retirement and medical from elsewhere. No less. Maybe you need to read slower. Thanks for asking.

VOLUNTEERS said 'alderperson should be completely a volunteer position. No salary, no nothing.'
That is a crazy position...
Every position should be allowed expenses...
Expenses incurred in doing their duties...
THAT... to me... would be a 'no brainer'!

Perhaps no salary...
IF...
there are lots of other folks willing to do the job.
BUT...
my guess is... there are not.
What is the truth ?

Right. We need some full-time people, at least until we get back on our feet. I talked with 4 council members and they are swamped with work -not just dog poo emergencies. They devote 20+hrs a week to city business/networking but all have their private jobs to do as well. Their current salary hardly meets their personal expenses. I would also like each member to have a computer, printer and internet access. Some still do not have computers at home.

And, the meetings are well attended and everyone looks real professional and anyone can tell they all care very deeply about the city and it's future.

you have my vote. I think they all, may or , aldermen and the rest of them all deeply care about the city and what it holds for its residents in the future. They certainly all need a raise. They need an expense account and of course they need a computer at home. But, so do we all. But, we do not h old the future of this city in our hands either do we?I think everybody , well close to everybody, agree about the raises. But, doesn't it have to be ok'de by Patterson? cause if it does, it isn't going any further then this topix. Now, that is a shame.I for one am not voting for him next time. If u asked me you can't get rid of him any faster.

Not to my mind. The last thing we need is more "professional" politicians. This city is chock full of people who volunteer for various boards and committees, and the role of alderperson is sort of the pinnacle of that volunteerism.

Little Falls does not need paid politicians.

If the mayor IS getting $3,800...
and the alderpeople ARE getting $1,200...
And have been for a LONG time...
Then...
It is fair to say that LF once had 'professional' politicians...
BUT...
Through the magic of inflation...
Has done away with them...

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics...
$3,800 in 1960... is now worth...
due to inflation...
$27,500 !
$1,200... is now worth...$8,700.
http://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator....
(a previous poster suggested the pay was the same in 1960)
(I dunno)

Maybe so. Then again, LF used to be real city. Now, it is a city by charter only.

Anyway, this is kind of an ideological issue with me. The whole less government, lower taxes, more civic responsibility shtick.

Your message says the council should get if there are two of them and therefore my message to you.
Your second message and mine were posted at the same time.

I should add county offers medical to legislator not to city elected officials.

If what you say is true (about how the Mayor should be paid $27,500.00 a year due to inflation), I'll take it!
I'll do ya one better and do it for $27,499.99!!
That's good money for ass-time!
