That's nice. I wish I had met you when we were both younger. But I cannot endorse this political equivalent of selling yourself into prostitution. Most of those of us who actually LIVE here do not agree with that approach to economic development.

Worse, if you adopt that desperate approach, you quickly find yourself surrounded by shady types trying to sell you magic beans.

You mean ... municipal planning? But that would take all the spontaneity out of governing!

It seems to be that Little Falls is indeed a good place for very small business to start. We have a pretty good location, good transportation, etc. A smart thing to do would be to use an empty building as a small business incubator, where start-up companies, and even companies with no employees, only with one guy with some ideas, could get office space cheap, share a secretary, a conference room, a fax machine, etc. This way, some guy who is tired of working out of his house could get a leg up, and get an office. There would not be, and there should not be, any need to invent mythical employees and mythical clients and mythical airplane fights in order to get a helping hand from the City. And hopefully, in time, some of these companies would indeed grow into worldwide concerns with many employees. And who knows, we might even get Shakespeare in the park some day after all! This would, of course, not require much or any money up front on the part of the small business, but it would require honesty, truth, and integrity, and above all open processes. We have space, we have the need, we have the desire, but the honesty and openess seem to be in short supply. Sigh.

I'm sorry...
I don't see LF making any progress at economic development.
Yes, Canal Place looks nice.
But nothing which supports very many employees.
Have I missed something.

And... I'm talking decades... YES?

WHAT is LF selling... that anybody wants?

The sad fact is that the garlic festival represented progress. The city worked with the construction company to make the place look nice but people like Jean and Shirley (the same person) feel better by trashing the city. Sad. He or she has no life.

Since the line of people looking to put businesses in LF
isn't exceedingly long...
And since there isn't a shortage of space...
I personally would do almost ANYTHING for ANYBODY !
What they say about beggars may apply!
At least... at the current time.
Perhaps in the future... I would be pickier.
You condescending idiot. Asking that the city not give away buildings to fake companies is not being picky.

I'm suggesting that a lot should be done to encourage people and businesses to LF.
Generally, Topix posters seem to think...
Selling at an 'advantageous price' is wrong...
And giving a PILOT is wrong...

WHAT do you think is the right way to encourage growth ?
Huh

Not so. As usual, you either misunderstand what has been said, or else purposely misconstrue our words.

We view that PILOTs such as offered by the IDA to Sphere are inappropriate for most retail inducements. Indeed, NY State law feels the same way, because you have to get special exemptions to offer such PILOTs to retail. In fact, this type of PILOT was designed to induce industrial jobs, not retail.

As for giving away public property, we insist that the city carefully follow the rules, keep such matters open and transparent, and exercise due fiduciary care. Otherwise, it turns into a scheme by which the good old boys enrich each other at the expense of the public.

They could start by picking up after themselves and cleaning up their junk piles.
Maybe they should

Stop listening to people like you who want to give away public property.

No PILOTS for retail... period.
Sales of real estate to be at full market value...

Is that the nature of LF's growth plan?

You have good old boys enriching each other?
Which past deals have been shady?

You miss the point UTLT, real estate in the mohawk valley region is very affordable already ergo, the city does not NEED to discount the price.

So the answer is YES.

The desired policy is...
NO PILOTS for retail...
and
NO SALES of Real Estate below full market.

These are the guidelines you'd want your community to follow...
in encouraging businesses to Little Falls ?

Stop sounding so ignorant for once, okay?

I said there is no reason for the city of little falls to discount already cheap property. To attract business they should instead give a tax break for a certain period of time.

You'd never affirmatively said...
'a tax break for a certain period of time'...
(Which IS a PILOT... n'est–ce pas?)

But only for JOB PRODUCING projects?

And retail doesn't count... as job producing.

No, no, no! You don't get it! PILOTs are for making cronies wealthy, not creating jobs! We need to give PILOTs to whatever developer comes to council meetings bearing manilla envelopes stuffed with cash!!!
