Is that a problem?
Yes. You carelessly and wantonly threw some hapless schmoe's name into the toilet bowl of Topix. That was mean. Now our outing-obsessed rocker friend with the Herkimer IP will accuse him of being Jean Linen. By tomorrow, if you Google that poor guy's name, his Topix gossip will be in the top two or three results ... and that SUCKS if he ever goes to apply for a job or get a bank loan.

Stick to your normal trolling, and leave LF politics for LF residents!

You are calling the fellow appointed to the planning board... a hapless schmo?
You think names mentioned in the newspaper...(online and searchable)
Shouldn't be mentioned on Topix?

Both come up on a search.
Until you labeled him a 'hapless schmo' his reputation was great.

You are quite the out-of-state trouble-maker, aren't you? How does it feel to be the most despised person on LF Topix? Seriously, even that one-trick pony Jean Linen has a few redeeming qualities, like a sense of humor. And yet you have none. How sad is that?
UTLT knows more about LF than my council members do. You should be happy s/he's here.

FYI: Local laws #5 and #6 pertain to Clerk and Treasurer pay and are voted on annually.

That is correct.
1. Once you mention somebody on Topix, low-life people feel empowered to say nasty things about them on Topix.
2. At least until recently, Google favored Topix in its search results, and thus the nasty things people say about other people became a prominent part of their internet profile.
3. Topix is the moral equivalent of the bathroom wall. Nobody wants their name written on the bathroom wall.
Play nice, or go away.

I'm ok with names from the paper being cited on here as well as it pertains to their professional life and doesn't become personal.

First of all, the person is a public official, so public discussion of them seems reasonable. Secondly, you were the one who said something derogatory about him, not UTLT.

Well it often becomes personal. And, imo, there is threshold factor: if someone is mayor, talk about them all day long. If they are helping out by serving on a board, don't dirty their names on Topix. We want to encourage people to help, not make them hesitant to help.

Now you've turned the discussion a bit.

IF the city actually posted minutes of meetings...(all meetings)

Do you feel... that members of boards and commissions are 'public officials'?

Do you feel that all mentions of people's names...
other than 'public officials' should be redacted.

It stands to reason that public officials will be discussed in public. They will be mentioned in newspapers and in official documents ... duh!

BUT ... we are talking about Topix. The Topix local forums are not a real news site; they are a gossip site. I do not like to see my friends and neighbors mentioned on gossip sites. Sorry.

Start signing your REAL name to your posts before you glibly mention other people by name here on Topix.

Well, mentioning the name of an individual who would bother to serve on a Planning Board in a City which doesn't do planning might be seen as a bit of a jab at the individual, couldn't it?

Oh, so you're the arbiter of what gets said where? And who is the "we" you are talking about when you say "we want to encourage people to help" by serving on boards? Seems to me Bobby fires anyone who dares try to get the boards to do what they're supposed to.

So the names of all individuals can be mentioned in the newspapers and any and all official city posts, but just not on TOPIX.

You don't think that sounds insanely silly?

The LFT...
posts pictures of children, with their names and AGES!
Children, as young as 3!
Do you agree with that?

Of course I am not the rule-maker on Topix. You can do whatever you want here ... until the people who own this site say otherwise. But I personally believe that if we reminder ourselves of the nature of Topix, we may be more careful about dragging our friends and neighbors into the Topix toilet bowl. It's really that simple.

So post your full real name if you think it is insanely silly. Go on ... I dare you.

Nobody WANTS to be talked about on Topix.

Well, well, I do remember that you sure squirmed and fussed when people started using YOUR real name on Topix during a couple of particularly heated discussions. If you recall, most of us regulars asked them to please stop.

Give it up, already. Rumor? Anyone who can read can see that this is mainly a site to trash people.
