Who has taken on the challenge of the building of DEATH aka the former Eastend Steakhouse ??

Will it be another gin mill where all the local dregs hang out and low quality restaurant or maybe they will make it and serve a great product like "Sandwich Chef".

Just curious who is opening it ?

My vote is to bring back the Full Moon Saloon. Fits that dump of a downtown.

Yokelism #598:

Since we are losers ourselves, we relish in other people's failures. If other people fail, then it's easier for us to blame LF for our miserable lives instead of facing the fact that we're just ignorant yokels.

Although it is funny, it's an outstanding and insightful post. You've hit the essential problem of Little Falls squarely on the head. If you are a loser, it's important that nobody else wins. I've always wondered how this City could be so accepting and toleratnt of the crap which calls itself government and adminstration around here. It's clear that most the people around here do not want progress, and do not want effective change. And now I know why. It would make them look bad as individuals.

I now understand how a less-than-zero like Peters could get re-elected. I now understand this City. Thank you.

Success in the society is considered bad. Jealousy runs deep. Losing is now considered normal in this society. Find a Loser and get free.

It's turned into a much useful discussion about the psychological problem so many dumb yokels have. What's with the bucket of crabs mentality? You sound like a yokel, can you explain it to us?

Upon further consideration of Yokelism's insight, it is clear that their point applies not only to the "dumb yokels," but more crucially and far mnre importantly and disturbingly, this point applies to much of the "better sorts" around this City. With a little thought, it becomes obvious that many of the more important and influuential people around here would simply just be regular nobodies if this City was run on a successful basis.

What I'm saying is that there are a lot of people around here whose continuing social status in this community rests upon the community continuing to fail, because they'd be nobodies in a successful and thriving well-run City. In fact, I'd dare say that Yokelism's insight might apply just as much if not more to the Elks Club and Kiwanis as it does to Ed and Buds. This is a pretty heavy realization that the influential people are the ones with the most vested interest in continuing failure, rather than success, of this community.

Flame throwers out yet?

Hard to imagine...
But possibly true.
Perhaps they UNINTENTIONALLY benefit from the failing city...
But I doubt they wish it to be that way.

YES... perhaps their status is higher...
But a successful city would benefit them financially.

Like the old board game... CAREERS.
You can either have FAME... or MONEY... or POWER.

LOL! It is true that the big fish in this small pond would be gobbled up in a big city. But they know that, by and large. Ain't no pretensions about that.

But maybe they are just more realistic about what actually works in the grungy small towns of upstate NY than you are. That, and they don't much like uppity newcomers telling them how to do things.

Brilliant. They know what works in a place like LF? Were you trying to be funny? They know what works? LOL, that's rich.

At worst I would say that this was one of the dumber things I've ever read at Topix. In a good mood, I would just say that this sort of mentality is a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy. Having lived in small towns in upstate NY for almost 40 years now, I'd comment that they aren't all necessarily grungy. They don't have to be. But since that is that the expectations of the people of Little Falls happen to be, that is exactly what they get. Lastly, it is obvious "they" don't know "what works," because it isn't working.

The ones that aren't grungy usually have one of several things in common, such as an affluent college, a kick-butt lake, or a major cultural venue within a 60 mile radius of a larger city.

And knowing that something won't work locally means not wasting money trying it anyway. You former MSFers, for instance, had some interesting ideas, but you were like the Keystone cops in implementation. Some of your ideas might (or might not) have worked in a town like Saratoga Springs or Clinton, if there were a pool of talented people with lots of money to implement them. Here? Not so much.
