How many of you remember back in the 70's when the MEAT SQUAD existed at LFHS. The days when the gym used to pack in 1,000 plus people at the High School Basketball games in the gym. When we had the older bleachers that sat twice as many people as the new bleachers, and when they used to put rows of chairs in front of the bleaches in the "Green Area" part of the gym just to seat the overflow of people. When almost every student at LFHS went to the games, and when the opposing teams cheerleaders attempted to come out the floor to cheer the Meat Quad erupted and the parents joined in, and we drwoned out the opposing cheerleaders, and they were forced to leave the floor because they couldn't hear each other. And the days when LFHS had the most SPIRIT in ALL of Central New York. When teams dreaded coming here to play. And back in 1976 when an overflow crowd of over 4,500 people filled the bleachers at Vets, and were allowed to stand inside the gates of the football field only to watch LFHS demolish Herkimer 46-14!!! And the stands at Vets were rockin with school spirit. What happend to all of that? Was back in L.F. a few years ago for a basketball game, and couldn't believe the gym when I walked in. 1/2 of the seating capacity, and no school spirit whatsoever. I was so disappointed.

The crowds at the 70's games was great, but I doubt their behavior would ever be tolerated today. Anyway, I have a simple answer to your question. Social media! Even those who attend have their eyes glued to their phones and are really not paying attention to the game. How times have changed, and not for the better.

Apparently you haven't been to a game lately. I haven't seen this much school spirit in a long time. I remember when M. Crimmins, Mary Wind, Joella Dady, and some other girls played under Mikey Kasner, and no one was there to watch them except their parents. You couldn't touch those girls they were so good. The bleachers weren't even pulled out as there wasn't enough people. This was in the 70's.

Jojo I think he's talking about boy's basketball. Not the girls. No one cares about girl sports. Need proof. Just look at the WNBA. Nobody watches. Same with girls college basketball.

Remember the Mountie hats? They were a hit for all of the visiting teams. Gosh, remember the School Spirit we had here in Good Ol L.F.? We used to help the cheerleaders make signs, and we would decorate all of the halls and the gym. And the crowd would cheer with the cheerleaders, and the crowd was filled with almost all of the student body and the parents. I remember not winning a football game, or how about the year we scored only 1 touchdown the whole year, yet the stands at Vets were still packed. What happened?????

Remember when a lot of people used to live in little falls. Yeah no more. The people who used to live her had jobs. Now the city only has so many workers and lots of collectors. That includes welfares, disabilled, and even the retired. LF is on a fixed income lol

Wow, those were the days. Playing teams like UFA, Proctor, Avaiation High from N.Y.C., Oneonta, Norwich. Who ever heard of playing down a class like we do now. The crowds used to be unreal, and the School PRIDE that we had was 2nd to none. Bring back he Meatsquad and all of those cheers. Imagine doing some of those cheers now? The fans would be escorted out of the gym. And banging on the bleachers like we did? That isn't politically correct. Imagine the students actually having fun and getting into the game, and having Pride and school spirit? Go Mounties

I graduated in 75, don't remember any meat squad. Went to a couple games last year the place was packed, one whole section of students cheering very loudly. This year pretty much the same. Maybe you should go to a game.
