It my understanding LF has to approve who works in LF, and in fact just signed a year contract for Joy. That being said, it is kind of odd that the powers that be made a decision to cut services this week when the public hearing isn't until December 12th regarding the county budget. Bad politics, and there is know shading it now.

By law if anything was need of Joy she can still answer to the courts.
Also the county made this decision on 11/15 and announce it this week. Perhaps they were waiting for a decision to be made before announcing this.

They laid off 4 people not just Joy.

Are you saying a county employee can negotiate their own contract with the city?
That is very worrisome.

OK..the City contracts with Herkimer County for assessors services. Ms. Presta just happens to be the individual from Herkimer County providing the services defined in the contract? WOW.

That means, essentially, that Booby's witch hunt/vendetta/BS investigation of the YMCA was done with a county employee, on county time. In other words, the county is a party to this, and could rightly expect to get sued by the YMCA. Geez...they pretty much had to let her go. No responsible person at the County level wants to see the county get sued over Peter's idiocy.

First off learn how to spell. You use that witchhunt word in your previous posts before. The mayor had absolutely nothing to do with this investigation or decisions made by the assessor. If this city would have had a mayor like the current one, the city of LF would have been that much far ahead. By him standing behind an assessor that gives a crap about this city then maybe, just maybe this city now has a chance to flourish. There are so many senior citizens in this community that live pay check to pay check that need the help of the city and people who live in their 350,000+ homes are trying to get away with not paying the property taxes that they should be paying, therefore the people who are doing right by the system are suffering. It's not fair. The assessor is following the real property tax law bottom line so what is the issue here? Why is she condemned for doing her job?

The article makes it quite clear that she is operating with the approval of Bob Peters. That can't be good. Can't be good at all.

Mr.Deluca does not have connections to force a county lay off.Plus he is a well expected man in the community that has helped our city and has been a constant force to better our community. Our Mayor is our leader that has done more in his term of mayor than anone we have had.Regardless what you hates say without our. Mayor we would not have our own garbage service our almost complete bridge not to mention the inte4st of pricechopper .As for any other foolishness these are accomplishments with the messes that Bob had to clean up we are fortunate. This Asessor fiasco OS sad.The bad thing was when Wind let the position go to the county level.I seem to lean that the case will rule in favor of the y and the co op.This is not a reflection of the mayor the asessor has a board she answer to_The city does not have to hire Hit they can take back the money we pay the county and we can hire or we can yake Joys replacere ement.Maybe it'd be best that common council decides this.In any event this episode. Is sad but you need to realize theirvare many factors here.Instead of conspiry theory maybe just maybe Joy had a low seniority level ar the county.Well that is most likely why she is laid off.

New York is not a right to work state You do not need a reason to let someone go. If the union can't stop it neither can the courts. A lawsuit against her employer? She will need to prove a labor law was broken or there was negligence. Otherwise she has no leg to stand on. Enjoy your 53 weeks off with pay from the taxpayer.

She doesn't want her 53 weeks off with pay. She isn't like the rest of the scum sucking people who want to take advantage of the system. She worked hard to get where she is and she does it for the people of the community and not because it is some kind of personal vendetta either. Why is this woman being bashed and condemned for following the property tax laws??? They laid her off because of political reasons and that being because of the bs going on with the YMCA. The YMCA(and others)are taking advantage of the system and therefore the city as well as the people in the community are suffering for it. It is time that everyone plays by the rules. Someone needs a good spanking and I hope they get what is coming to them. If not then so be it. This area will never be able to flourish because of the politicians who always put a kibosh on situations like this. Like I said before, it is a big fish in a little pond syndrome. These men want to feel like big wigs in these little areas to boost their egos.

I agree that certainly the biggest problem this City faces is the Big Fish in a Little Pond syndrome, and that decisions and policies are made more with respect of the self-esteem and status of the players rather than with an eye to the good of the community as a whole. Yes. That is exactly what is killing this place.

It needs to be pointed out, that if this mentality is every going to change, it will be up to the City leaders to set the example and personally act and make decisions with respect to the City, rather than with respect to their own status in the City. Unfortunalely, Mayor Peters is the worst offender in this respect. He plays the Big Fish syndrome better than anyone in this place. Remember the empty chair at the debates, and how letting us know what he thought "wasn't in his best interests?" And screw the interests of the citizens of the City, right?

In essence, since the Mayor sets the example, the people will follow. Since the Mayor plays politics with everything, so will everyone else (in fact, they HAVE do play back, right?) This is whay Ms. Presta is being attacked, actually. We all know that virtually everthing the City does is done for partisan political reasons, and nothing is done rationally or equitably, especially the entire tax assessing scheme, so of course civic-minded people are suspicious. We know Bob is up to no good, and we assume anyone working with him is up to no good as well.

They would get 26 weeks not 53. The county does not a very aggressive labor union and doubt they would be much help. Plus they laid off 4 people so would be very hard to show it was political motivated.

Thank you for kinda agreeing with me but Mayor Peters doesn't want to partake in the big fish little pond syndrome and that is why he is finally letting the assessor do her job. Secondly, Ms. Presta's worth ethic clearly shows that she is not politically motivated. The only thing she is doing is following the real property tax laws. Why can't people get this through their heads??? Ya know why....BECAUSE BY IT NO LONGER BENEFITS THEM. That is why people are irate with her because the system is finally doing what it should be doing. I just hope on behalf of the city, Ms. Presta, and the community that this matter is taken all the way to the top. THE ASSESSOR FOR THE CITY OF LITTLE FALLS IS FOLLOWING MANDATED REAL PROPERTY TAX LAWS, I just hope that the city, the county, and even the state is monitoring this topix discussion to realize what is going on here. It's a black and white discussion. Ms. Presta was laid off in the middle of a trial because she was doing her job. By the way it wasn't 4 people laid off. The two other layoffs were nurses that the county had a contract with and had expired AND isn't it odd how the two positions that were cut(Ms Presta's)in the WHOLE ENTIRE COUNTY, just happened to be assessor involved in the trial of the YMCA? The title of this thread says it all, "See what happens when you screw with Tony DeLuca" in essence that means, since Ms. Presta felt it was in the city's best interest to assess the properties according to law, therefore she has to suffer the consequences by getting laid off thanks to Tony DeLuca who made this happen. Mr. DeLuca you need to get yourself prioritized. What you did was wrong #1 by claiming your best interests were for that of the community and 2nd by having a hard working woman laid off from her job. That right there is crule you greedy jerk. Ms. Presta has no connections with any politicians whatsoever and because of that, which is really sad, is that this whole thing will get swept under the carpet like everything else. This is so wrong.

26 regular weeks plus the extensions they have been giving out to make it 53 weeks. Unless congress cancels them. I did not mean this as a jab against Joy. Hopefully she was just doing what her job required. And I think she was. I meant it as a bright side - enjoy the time off with family and don't let them get you down. Life goes on.
