Once again, lets not question anything... Bunch of Sheep!
There are some that say that the assessor's so-called investigation (what a joke that was!) was itself politically motivated, terribly inept, and aimed at scoring personal revenge.

The way I see it, a rogue assessor has been curbed. The County has given the City government a vote of no-confidence.

Little Falls city government is an embarrassment to Herkimer County.

Clearly, many of you on this thread are Joy's friends in City Hall. What you said is an outrageous claim: she has not brought money into the City, she has simply raised taxes on arbitrarily selected city residents and businesses. You people in city government seem to think that we are all some sort of piggy bank to be broken open when you need a raise or a new truck to drive around in. Well, we are citizens, not sheep to be sheared. YOU work for US, not the other way around. Joy seems to have not understood that at some level.

The current city administration is out of control. The assessor attacking the Co-Op was the just icing on the cake of arbitrary bad government. I hope this helps reign it in.

And maybe the veterans at the Post did this to protect their fish fry from the assessor? Did you think of that?

THe City of Little Falls already pays $20,000 a year to the County for the assessor's services. It wouldn't be an additional fee, everything would be the same. That $6,000 you read about would be extra.

I read in the pappers there that if they tax the YMCA, theys a gonna get an extry $6000 or so per year.
Now, this Presta woman loses her job, and now Bobby wants to put her on the publick payroll of the City part-time. Now, I'm shore that Missus Presta is a nice lady and all, but even a part-time job would have to cost the taxpayers (that'd be you and me) prolly $20,000 a year.
Now, I realize that some of you yokels can't do cyphering over 20 cause that's all the fingers and toes ya got. Yes, yes, I know that some of ya got six toes so's you can do up to 22, but that's not my point.
If ya spend $20,000 a year to take in $6000 a year, ya end up losing something like 12 or 15 thousand a year, give or take. I've checked this twicet. It don't make no good sense.

Hey Tony,

If I were you, I would beat the idiot who started this thread within an inch of his life. When you plot and execute a politically-motivated firing of a public employee, it's not a good idea to publicly take credit for it. And the fact that people have been living in the Y house on Garden again for the past 6 weeks is just proof you knew this was coming.

Game on, buddy. Now you've really stepped in it.

Ask yourself why the City government refuses to go with a rational and equitable system of City wide assessment based on real market valuations?

Sounds like a county employee let themselves get too heavily identified with City corruption, and the County didn't want to have anything to do with it.

It's funny, you denounce corruption and question the city's tax assessment practices in defense of someone who is flouting the tax laws. Interesting. I can't wait for the state courts to rule on the tax status of the Y, particularly the house on Garden. That will just add fuel to Ms. Presta's lawsuit against the city and the county, which, of course, will be paid for by us. And by "us" I mean me and the other people who actually pay taxes in this town, not deadbeat leaches like you.

Little Falls city government is an embarrassment to Herkimer County.
It has nothing to do with personal revenge. It has to do with the fact that there are a lot of residents out there in Little Falls getting away with paying 1/2 of what they should be paying on their properties. As far as the Co-op goes, how in anyone's right mind think that store is there to benefit the needy???? Did you see the prices in that place? Why would you sell Green Mountain coffee at 15.00 per bag to the needy? Burts Bee lip balm for 8.00 for one little chapstick?? It's a gormet store and they are claiming that it is soley for people who are in need. Stop pretending that you are doing the right thing and pay up. People are pissed at her because they live in 6000 sq ft homes and want to pay a tax rate on a house that is 1400 sq ft. This isn't the 70's, billie bob joe has long been gone and Dukes of Hazzards went off the air years ago. Time to burn the polyester people.

I just have to make something clear though before I write anymore posts. I have friends who live and own businesses in Little Falls and who are probably the best people I've ever met. They are honest and pay their taxes without hesitation, nor do they take advantage of the city. It's people like the ones who started this discussion post that are to be taught a lesson. It's not fair everyone else has to suffer for their greediness.

You are one of the small-minded idiots you are complaining about. Non-profits are not just to serve poor people. In the case of the Co-Op, EVERYONE needs better nutritional choices.

Not at those prices in the Co-op. That is just plain ridiculous. Why do people need an $8.00 chapstick?? Paying $12.00 for a 9 oz bag of coffee is crazy! Non for profit my butt. Nutritional choices you say??? I'd have to give up my left lung for those prices to stay healthy lol.

I thought she had a contract with Little Falls, and the the city had a share agreement with the county. I can understand why the Mayor would be confused to Joy getting layed off. Normally, one would have to consult with other parties involved before taking such a drastic action . This whole thing smells of corruption. The fact they let her go in the middle of a lawsuit she's involved in ,is idiotic. This is going to get worse
The city has a contract with Herkimer County for assessor's services not with Joy.
By law if anything was need of Joy she can still answer to the courts.
Also the county made this decision on 11/15 and announce it this week. Perhaps they were waiting for a decision to be made before announcing this.
