I think the answer to this... is pretty good!
AND... they spend about half of what the U.S. pays for healthcare.
Yes there are horror stories about healthcare...
just as there are here.

Ish...that pie chart seems to be for what is called "discretionary spending" only. It does not include what the GOP calls entitlements such as Social Security and Medicare. But your point about the Pentagon (and 2 major, seemingly unending wars put on the credit card at the same time taxes were actually cut) is well taken.
Just for giggles WCR and our other anti-socialist friends should try the following 3 exercises:(1) start trying to name any democratic country in the world which is politically to the right of the USA.(2) Then try to name any country in the world with a per capita income approximately equal to or greater than that of the USA (there are actually quite a few) which isn't politically to the left of the USA. and (3) Name any country in the world politically to the right of the USA where you prefer to live as an average citizen. Answers please.
Thanks. I'd like to see a complete chart if you can find one I'd appreciate it.

My answer is this: mover there! Pick one. Anyone. Quit trying to make the US like everyone else!

There are major efforts underway to privatize healthcare (pieces of it) in Canada. Why? Simple. People with $$$$ in Canada come to the US to reap the benefits of our system. Yes, we spend too much and that has to change. If Canada's system worked so well, why come here? Why privatize if the Canadian Gov't is doing a great job? Curious.

Not a big deal...parts of the UK's NHS already are privatized with varying degrees of success....and many in the UK opt for private health insurance or to go abroad for treatment as do many in the USA. I wonder what the ratio of USA citizens coming to UK for treatment is to Brits going to the UK. The idea of a National Health System is not to be the exclusive provider of service...it is only to provide universal (regardless of income or wealth) access to health care at the best standard that can be publicly funded at a reasonable cost. If somebody wants and can afford a higher standard nothing stops him.

Where should I move to? There aren't any to pick from in any of the 3 categories....exactly my point. Of course only in the USA is the health care system and the education establishment set up to reward both administrators and providers for generated profits rather than positive patient outcomes. Witness the proliferation of health care administration degrees from the best American universities that primarily teach their students how to generate money profits for their masters and command a big salary rather than how to increase the standard of care.

<quoted text> See my above post and contemplate the difference between communism (to which your comment is certainly applicable) and socialism. The entirety of western Europe is to some degree economically and politically socialist (which is certainly not to say that the USA should follow Europe's lead). I would also posit that "social mobility" is now greater in western Europe than it is in the USA, which is the true catastrophe for a nation built largely on that ideal...and I believe this to the root of the angst that now fundamentally defines all American political discourse.
Social mobility is greater in western Europe. Watching alternative media from Europe, you can see the citizens mobilizing to riots because of the failed socialism. This is what happens when you give your faith and trust government banksters with your money.

Right. It's all about cost, price gouging, and fraud.
Two Tylenol costs about a nickel. Two inpatient tylenol costs about $60.

Ireland's Health System. 1980's. I know. I go there. Little innovation. Little incentive. Socialism. The wait lists for care..........really long. HUGE Problem. AND, Healthcare is but ONE example. Call me stupid. I don't have time to prove my personal experiences and knowledge of the problems. For the record, I'm NOT for padding the CEO's wallet anymore either.
First of all, WCR, Canada's system is working just fine. Ask the Americans who go there for care they can't afford here. Secondly, stop switching names after your idiotic posts get lambasted. Man up.

Pretty damn well. Look at GDP growth during the time the stimulus was in effect vs. GDP growth since it ended.

Here's a question for you: how's austerity working in the UK? They're about to enter a TRIPLE-dip recession. And this is what the GOP wants for us. We will get the same results. It's called "economics".

Stop being a moron, WCR.

What's curious is why you're so stupid. First of all, even you know your statement is misleading, which is why you even qualified your vague declaration. Second of all, the fact that rich people in Canada come here is hardly meaningful. Do poor Canadians come here? Nope. They don't have to. Do poor Americans go there? Yep.

Saying we spend "too much" is an understatement. We spend 17% of our GDP on healthcare. No other industrialized nations spends more than half of that, and we get no better results than they do.

And by the way, Canada's biggest private healthcare facility is under investigation for ripping off patients. Curious, eh?

Exactly right and I speak from bitter experience. David Cameron and the Tory brand of austerity (essentially the same as that espoused by the GOP) has completely tanked the UK economy. After seeing our business gross revenue down by by 50%(directly attributable to the UK austerity budget and the resultant triple dip recession) from historic levels my British wife and I decided it was time to liquidate in the UK and retire to the USA. Little did we know that our retirement savings would be further hit by a 10% drop in sterling over the past 10 days also brought on by the utter nonsense of austerity economics.

The western European model of socialism IS the reason why the inevitable austerity is happening. Why do you people believe poor nations have to give up their resources for worthless paper money, so you lazy azzes get free stuff?

Ah, PV and his unique brand of stupidity. Quick question for you: what's "inevitable" about something that's voluntary?

Please let the adults talk, PV.
